Questions / Re: Will MusicBee Be Able to Do This?
« on: May 18, 2021, 05:56:56 PM »
Thank you so much!  I hate to download software, work on it for a while and find out it's not what I need.  I just moved a folder of 200 albums to an external drive and will now download MB and try it!  Thanks again!!! David

Questions / Will MusicBee Be Able to Do This?
« on: May 18, 2021, 01:54:34 PM »
Newbie David here,
I have about 8,000 music albums, Each album folder is named with Artist – Album (Year)
Example = Elvis Presley – King Creole (1958),  All my albums have ID2 tags and I have
About 40 different genres.
I don’t want to use MusicBee as a player, all I want to use it for is to show off the covers
I don’t want to show album tracks anywhere in views, only the album covers.
I want to show the name of each album and year under each album cover.
I want to be able to just show albums for a certain year or artist or genre.

Am I able to add some of my own fields, like Awards (Grammies, Etc)
Can I use Keywords?

Also can MusicBee be used as an organizer for movie files?

I do appreciated any respones - I'm a senior & new software can be confusing, David

Questions / Re: Adding Custom Fields

Thanks so much, 1 more easy question - How many custom tags can you add to an track and can these be used in sorting & filters?  I have been using JRiver MC26 but that is way too complicated for me! Tks so much - DN

What defines an album on a computer is a very different concept from a physical album such as a record or a cd that is one item.
On your harddisk there are no albums. Only files. (songs)(unless you have a whole album as one single file, but that's rare)

So the music player/manager software you use will have to sort out what it's user considers to be 'an album'.
It can be that all music files that reside in the same folder are treated as an album.
Or it can be that all files that have the same Album Title and the same Album Artist are treated as an album.
With MusicBee, you can decide and refine all this to your own preferences.

So, long story short: Custom tags are always for files, never for albums.

Questions / Adding Custom Fields
« on: January 09, 2021, 07:46:05 PM »
Newbie David Here,  Is there a way to add custom fields to Albums, not necessarily Tracks and be able to sort and filter on these custom fields.  Example is adding a field for Grammy Awards Nominees & Winners, Perhaps a field for "ALLMUSIC" Album Picks and or rating.  I have an extensive collection but most of the extra info is entered into a spreadsheet and when I want to find something I have to sort to find the info!  Really like this software but overwhelming for a senior!
Thanks for suggestions - David N.

Questions / Re: Problems w Portable Edition
« on: July 31, 2020, 11:54:34 PM »
Is it possible you accidentally made a shortcut to the installer .exe instead of the installed program?

I just checked it and redid the shortcut and you are absolutely right!!  I'm a senior and still learning this tech stuff!!  Thank you so much,
very nice of your efforts!!  DN

Questions / Problems w Portable Edition
« on: July 31, 2020, 06:57:10 PM »
Newbie David here.  I installed the portable version 3.3.7367 onto a flash drive.  I created a shortcut on my desktop.  When I click on the exe file on the flash drive it opens right up however when I click on the desktop shortcut it keeps wanting to reinstall the program!  This is the way I handle all other portable software I use and never have any issues.
I must say this is the best music organizer I've seen.  All my artwork looks great and there are so many ways to display my collection!
I have JRiver MC 26 and it is such a pain!!!

Any help is appreciated! Tks, DN

General Discussions / Re: Official MB appreciation thread

I just downloaded this program yesterday.  I can't believe what a great job the programmer did on this.  I own JRiver MC25 and also
Collectorz Music software, now that I used MusicBee I wish I had never bought those other 2.
I really like the grouping features and being able to add tags is another surprise.  I can use the tags for special awards (Grammys, Etc).

Keep up the great effort! David N.
