MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Ability to Add PDFs to Library
« on: June 21, 2022, 10:47:24 AM »
I haven't  been following this thread so I don't know how pertinent this is but I do have a tool I wrote that I use in musicbee that will open files from the song folder. it takes various command line parameters.. mostly I use it as a toolbar button that will open all images and text files. I can't remember if it supports PDFs but I can add that easily. If anyone is interested pm me.

That is true, I usually use comments when the text length is small, but I haven't found a practical way to read really long texts in the comment box. It would also make me have a lot of redundant info if I have to put the same text in the comment tag of every song in an album for quick retrieval. But I get your POV, it's not really a fundamental feature. I figured I'd ask since the code for pdf files is already there and would only need some little refactoring.

I have... I have! well not in the comments box per-se.. but can read it nevertheless.

You have to hover over certain areas and a huge tooltip containing the entire comment will appear (I have some long long comments and it works mostly great)

for Example, if you have comments in Track Information.. hover over that one line of comment and a tool tip will appear. Same with comment columns in the playlist in compact mode.

It works almost perfect the one problem is if the comment tooltip is so big that it touches the bottom of the screen it will disappear immediately.

My speakers all have different sound characteristics... some are too bassy, others too tinny.. it would be nice if MusicBee  could remember the equalizer preset based on the output device.

just to be clear:

1. I start in compact mode
2. switch to playing tracks
3. switch to regular mode
4. switch back to compact mode
5. it is now shown as "upcoming tracks"

so you are saying that for you it would still show "playing tracks"?

wait I might be on to something.

I just got it to work (i.e. show "playing tracks" when I reverted to compact mode)

but I did something different.

Usually I switch from the dropdown above title.

This time I found a new way to switch to playing tracks. There is another dropdown next to the name MusicBee at the top. When I switch that way, it will remember "playing tracks" and won't revert to upcoming

actually I noticed that the problem is not about not remembering "playing tracks". It is about not remembering whatever you select with this lower dropdown (above title), it will be forgotten after a switch back to full size mode and back to compact.

Using the MusicBee menu dropdown, the state will be remembered.

I might be using a slightly older version as it says 2021. - 3.4.8033

Questions / Re: How to completely remove a wrong track rating?
« on: June 09, 2022, 06:27:53 AM »
I can figure it out on the drop down list of songs under the album. However this "click the right spot" technique doesn't seem to work for me in the tag editor (the tag editor at the bottom of the screen)

also is there a way to pull up the Rating Dialog for multiple selected tracks?

I'm trying to derate an entire album's worth of track ratings in one fell swoop and I can't figure out how except to use the inspector.

unfortunately this works only temporarily. I am constantly switching between compact and regular mode, using the keyboard shortcut key

There is a benefit to this as I use Windows 11 (and 10 before that) and make good use of virtual desktops... using the keyboard shortcut means that I have control over musicbee, as opposed to clicking on the musicbee icon in the taskbar (when it is in regular mode)... where musicbee has control over me. the control thing is not a musicbee thing, it is a windows behaviour.. but nevertheless if I click that taskbar icon to has a quick peak at musicbee, I will get whisked to whatever desktop musicbee was last open on. I know you can set it to open on all desktops but I have my reasons that I don't like to have that enabled. The shortcut to compact mode/desktop toggle... that is magic though.. it means I can transport musicbee from whatever desktop it was on to my current desktop, thus not breaking my workflow.

But the one downside is that everytime you switch to compact mode, it resets to upcoming tracks . Is there a way to prevent this reset?

note: my desktop always stays in playing tracks mode, just compact mode changes

ah, you are right.. thanks

..in compact mode.

It is annoying to have to switch back to full mode to see the entire setlist (list of album tracks)

how can I disable this feature?

just to be clear I mean in the compact mode the current song is the top song, you can scroll up above it

Hi, it would be great if tooltips could be added for the  Filter and Command Toolbar Buttons.

I have a bunch of them and only using 1-2 letters for the names to save space, so it would be great to see  the command e.g "General: Locate Selected Track in Windows Explorer" or filter name e.g. "Decade" when hovering over these.

Tips and Tricks / Re: Master screenshot post
« on: May 24, 2022, 09:58:06 AM »
also these 2 other programs are part of the holy triumvirate of best ever screenshot programs for Windows

1) greenshot (it is simpler than sharex, without the cloud upload and with an amazing editor)
2) ScreenShot Captor.. amazing program, lots of capabilities

I have a question about Imgur... for the life of me I can't figure out how to create new Albums. I feel really stupid.. I know I've done it before (years ago when I last used imgur) because I can move files to those Albums but I cannot figure out how to create a new Album.

On the off chance that they actually nixed this feature (sounds stupid so I think the fault is more that I don't understand their interface), what is a good image uploading/sharing site with nice UI that can/is:

1) free
2) big enough that it isn't going to disappear
3) holds photos for a fairly long time before deleting
4) Album support
5) Ability to have images laid out with a caption and successively down the page the way ImgUr lets you would be nice as well but not as important as the features above.
6) tagging - also nice but not essential.
7) drag and drop on page to add photos

Tips and Tricks / Re: A file renaming tip: Renamer
« on: May 24, 2022, 09:49:01 AM »
1) music files are not the only thing I ever rename (although they are the bulk). I just used power renamer on some photos just before vistiing this forum. If I had to keep only one, power renamer would be it and any I would have to install it as I need powertoys to function lol.. if you have an UIltraWide their windows layout manager called "Fancy Zones" is the best thing ever, so if you want that power renamer is part of the package deal.

2) I can't really remember if I ever renamed music files after putting them in MusicBee. If I need to rename files it is part of the preparation before dropping them into the inbox.

3) even so, I don't think that would be a problem... whatever files you rename simply pop back into the inbox on a file rescan.

there are different renamers for different purposes. I use 3 myself.

I use the renamer in powertoys often, it is good for simple or regex replacements via the send to menu.

When I need to do something that doesn't fit that paradigm easily I use bulk rename utlity. For example to number files with a prefix or suffix. It is pretty good but not quite as quick as powertoys (for things that powertoys can do), if not then bulk rename is usually the way to go.

I use renamer lite - the one mentioned above for one special use case. When I want to move files with the same names (i.e. the would overwrite each other) when moved to one directory, that were previously in disc directories.. e.g. disc 1, disc 2 subfolders.. I use it to automatlically prefix the sub folder name to the track

e.g. Disc 1\01.mp3 becomes Disc 1 - 01.mp3

here is the Insert (as Prefix) rule

ah that was it... I'm using a funky blue skin, really nice looking - not sure the exact name.. but the scrollbar is almost invisible and I only noticed it once you mentioned it.

because I can see them when I open the file in mp3tag.. mp3, aac, flac.. they all show multiple embedded pictures in mp3tag.. but I can only see one in the artwork tab of musicbee and I can't see any button to change picture and the drop down picture type combobox doesn't do anything

for example with this flac there are 4 files

one is of type "front cover", 3 are of type "other"

what I see is the first picture in the file, which is also the first "other"

in musicbee if I change the dropdown box to "Album Cover" it will not change the photo to what is called "Front Cover" in mp3tag
