Questions / Re: Does MusicBee save ratings in the tags of flac files
« on: March 24, 2022, 10:00:37 AM »
Hi frankz,

no the ratings should be stored in the file. I checked the settings (Save ratings in music files is ticked) and I can also see them in Windows Explorer. Therefore, they are definitely in the mp3 files. I am wondering why MB copies the "Love Hearts" but not the ratings. Or at least MB does not show the ratings. Is there a way to find out if ratings are in the flac files outside MB?

EDIT: What I found right now: It is the same with mp3tags: If I copy the tags with mp3tags the hearts are available but not the ratings. Is there anything in MusicBee that I might have adjusted accidently (perhaps years ago)?

Maybe this one will do what you need:

Maybe. I will need some time to read and understand. Actually, I am not an expert of the technology and methods behind the tags.

Thanks

Hallo,

Musicbee stores the rating in the POPM id3 frame for MP3 and in the Vorbis RATING tag for FLAC. If you're copying them outside of MB, then you'll need to account for the different formats. If you copy the ratings inside of MB, MB does this accounting for you.
Great, I did not know that MB can copy tags and it works even better than with an external software like mp3tag. However, the ratings are not copied. If I understood you correctly this should be the case. Do you have an idea why it is not done?

Questions / Does MusicBee save ratings in the tags of flac files
« on: March 20, 2022, 12:01:53 AM »
Hi everyone,

I am wondering if MusicBee saves ratings in the tags of flac files or if ratings can be saved in flac files at all?

Currently I am in the process of replacing mp3 files by flac files. The tags of the existing mp3 files includes the rating (I can see them e.g. in Windows Explorer). First doubts came up when I copied the mp3 tags to the flac files with using mp3tags for this procedure. When deleting the mp3 files in Windows Explorer and replacing them in MusicBee by the prepared flac files the rating was lost. In Windows Explorer the ratings are also not shown.

Okay, could be that mp3tag does not copy the rating but I added the ratings to the flac files manually in MusicBee (store ratings in music files is activated in MusicBee). However,  Windows Explorer does still not show the rating (also not in properties).

Can someone clarify this for me?

Thanks

Hi,

thanks for trying to help me. I have started to replace the mp3 files manually. This will take weeks and months but it seems to be the only way. I have some other problems but will start a new thread for this.

Thanks again.

This is of course only an option if you don't care much about more dynamic and personal library metadata information such as play history, scrobbles, etc. (like me)
I care about those (meta)data - otherwise I would just add the flac-files to the library and delete the mp3-files (similar as you said). But I want to replace them.

Are the filenames identical between the mp3 and flac versions?
Yes, besides few files with long names the most files have the same name.

Tools > Managing duplicates?
How can that help me? Could you please explain.

I went through the process over the past year or two, using the Additional Tagging Tools plugin to copy the tags that were important to me (Date Added / Last Played / Play Count, etc) and manually replacing the files in playlists, artist by artist, album by album.  It is not fun.  I do not think there is an easier way.
I use mp3tag to copy tags to the flac files. And I agree manually replacing the files of large music collection is not fun and takes years. That's why I am looking for a smarter way to do it.

Questions / Smart way to replace mp3-files by FLAC-files
« on: March 17, 2022, 05:50:09 PM »
Hi everyone,

I have two archives: One is used and contains mostly mp3 files. The other one is more an archive with the same files in flac format.

Now I want to replace the mp3 files with the flac files. I know that I can replace them one by one if I remove the mp3 files and search for it in MusicBee. But this is an awful work with 11k files and error-prone. Is there a smarter way how I can replace those files in bigger groups?

Thanks
Stefan

Yes, I change it several times when I maintain the music library or search someting. I do not need the the sorting in a static way but in a agile way to work on it and therefore I am looking for a more comfortable way to resort it.
From the technical side everything is fine (nothing changes automatically) but if I am looking for something or need a special sorting I have to resort it the way you showed me or the way via right-click. It would not be an issue if I just have to do it once a day.

Hi frankz,

Thank you for your quick reply. This is working and I am sure that I can use it for some sortings but to be honest, it is still not comfortable with four criteria and therefore four columns to click on (and find them before clicking). Isn't there a more permanent way to do like I want it?

Thanks,

Questions / Sorting Column According Customized Preferences
« on: December 01, 2021, 04:39:37 PM »
Hi,

I need your help. I have created a custimized sorting for column Title. Like it is in iTunes I want to sort all songs by Title / Artist / Year / Album. It works by right-clicking and selecting the customized sorting in the sub-menu. But this is not comfortable when using it vey often. I just want to left-click on the column to have this sorting.

Is it possible to change the standard sorting of column Title to my customized sorting method?
Alternatively: Is it possible to create another column (e.g. Song) which shows the title with the customized sorting as a standard for left-click?

Thanks

Portable Devices / Re: Playlists are shown as copied but are not
« on: September 03, 2020, 12:29:04 PM »
Hi phred,

Sorry for responding so late. I needed to try it but had some technical problems.

However, it works. I assume this is an error in Musicbee since I read about others with similar problems.

Thanks for your help.

Best regards
Stefan

Portable Devices / Playlists are shown as copied but are not
« on: August 25, 2020, 12:03:47 PM »
Hi experts,

It used to work months ago but something has changed (perhaps the MusicBee Version, perhaps some customizing in MusicBee or Android - I do not know).

system
MusicBee's latest version 3.3.7491 (installed)
Windows 10

USB cable sync
PlayerPro
sync to SD card / internal storage on a Nokia 8 with Android 9

what happens (not):
When I sync MusicBee to my smartphone MusicBee shows that all files and playlists are copied (with some very big playlist an error is shown that they are not copied - that's another problem and okay for the moment). However, only 29 playlist of approx. 150 are synced to Android using m3u-playlists. I assume that mp3 files are all copied correctly, the problem only occurs with playlists.

what I already tried
I tried other playlist formats which are copied completly but PlayerPro does not read those formats.
I tried to sync to another internal directory and on the SD card (customised in MusicBee device preferences).
I tried to find an equality of those playlists which are copied and those which are not but acutally found none. Automatic playlists are affected but also sometimes copied as well as manual playlists.

Can anybody help me and give me a hint what to do to copy all playlists to Android phone?

Thanks

Questions / Re: Some annoying things about MusicBee I'd like to change
« on: December 26, 2018, 12:20:28 PM »
Hi everybody,

Sorry for responding so late. I have used the time to make some experiences with MusicBee and adapted it to my needs. However, I could not solve the most problems.

1. Sorry for the missunderstanding. I use only (!) ID3v2.3 tags within mp3 files. Meanwhile I had the request from MusicBee if I want to save changes - but only sometimes. Until now I do not understand when it asks and when it just loses all changes.

2. Yes, I set up MusicBee to scan the folder continously.

Here is a screenshot with that warning sign:

For those who do not understand German: The mouse-over text means "The processed file(s) was/were changed outside MusicBee - maybe it/they have to be memorised again to ensure that the newest tag data are shown and saved."

Is it possible that MusicBee needs more time for large libraries? My library is 21k+ files large.

Does it happen specifically if you don't have continously monitor turned on? It's entirely possible it goes by so quickly I just haven't noticed, too.
I haven't tried it but I will.

3. That works now - I don't know why.

4. I have not yet worked on the virtual tags.

Thanks for your help
