Plugins / Re: Musicbee Chromecast Plugin
« on: November 13, 2020, 02:20:21 AM »
Woot! We got it working and here are some lessons learned.

Lesson one this extension has issues with the windows store music be app due to not the location of extension files not being were they should be :) (This may be why I've had issues with other Music bee extensions :) Thanks for helping me out with that as I didn't know it would matter until now.)

Due to lesson one, i installed the standard x86 installer and decided to try following the normal setup to see if it was ONLY because my other music bee was the windows store app, but I had the same issues as before.

Finally I tested the provided fix and it's working. :) I moved the listener dll to the same folder as musicbee.exe and it is now running as expected. (I think, I'm not actually sure what "expected" is, but it mutes my computer's music bee and just plays through the chromecast. Takes a hot second to spin up, but it works and that is more than I had before.)

Thanks so much for your help. Hopefully my experience will help others too. :)

I was able to install the addon and add the button to my toolbar with the help of a friend, but when we click the button it says "No Devices" and we aren't entirely sure why. Github is a touch above our understanding in general, we just followed the instructions as written. The status says "Chromecast Not Connected, Service Status: Not Running"

based on the settings the server should be running on 8080. When we run netstat there's no port 8080 waiting and listening. We don't find any button to turn on the server. We've tried disabling, enabling the extension, re-starting the software. We do see the rule in our firewall for allowing the chromecast communications.

The webserver doesn't need to be started manually. It will only start up once its connected to a Chromecast successfully.

Have you tried looking at the Troubleshooting part of the readme? Some google cast devices such as the home/mini/cc audio make a blip noise when something has connected to it.

Also this is how its supposed to work after connecting. Example

Most of the time it's usually a firewall/network setting thats stopping musicbee from communicating with the chromecast. It's a bit hard for me to troubleshoot things like that since peoples network setup will be different between person to person.

Thank you for the quick response! We took a look at the troubleshooting for sure, but from what we could tell it didn't seem to apply. Since the devices list says 'no devices' we can't even connect anything, so there's no way we'd hear a connection noise. Looking at the video you kindly provided, we think we have everything set up right so we'll try checking our firewall and networking settings. My friend says your reply was very helpful!

Maybe this might help but on my end this is how my inbound firewall rule is setup (I only included the relevant info):

Protocols and Ports:
   Protocol Type: TCP
Local Port: Specific ports -> 8080
Scope:
Local IP Address -> Any IP Address
Advanced:
   Profiles: Private

And when I do "netsh http show urlacl" I can see the required rule:

    Reserved URL            : http://*:8080/
        User: \Everyone
            Listen: Yes
            Delegate: No
            SDDL: D:(A;;GX;;;WD)

First off, Thanks again for the help. We adjusted some network settings and we've got connectivity to the chromcasts now. When we click the button on musicbee it pulls up all the options. Now the issue is that it doesn't start up the webserver. We get 2 errors the first says "The server factory could not be located for the given input: Microsoft.Owin.Host.HttpListener." The second error is "Error starting the Webserver. Webserver Exception".

Based on the errors we thought maybe we missed the microsoft.owin.host.httplistener.dll when copying things across to the musicbee folder, but it's there.

It seems to us that it's not a networking issue any more, but an issue with me missing something or something else happening on the machine side. Network seems fine now since when we go to status it says

"Chromcast: Connected.
Server Status: Not Running"

Any other helpful tidbits that might explain what's going? :)

Portable Devices / Re: MusicBee sync question - duplicate checking
« on: November 07, 2019, 10:32:06 PM »
I might try that. I discovered I was tapping "PTP" instead of "File transfer" on my phone. switched that and it seemed to fix itself
But there is a second issue that keeps coming up as well - It keeps telling me that the storage folder no longer exists and may need to be changed in the device sync preferences.

Portable Devices / MusicBee sync question - duplicate checking
« on: November 06, 2019, 04:14:08 AM »
I've been trying to sync MusicBee to my phone via USB, and it seems that  it doesn't check to make sure that it's not creating duplicates - it just sends everything right on over regardless of if MusicBee has previously synced the song or not. This when I just barely synced the device 5 minutes ago and haven't even disconnected the device. Is that how it's supposed to work?

Portable Devices / Re: Wifi android device synching

I'm not sure if it's too late to say this, or if this is still the right place but I know that there's a number of people using an Android app called Black Player (and Black Player Ex) by FifthSource that use musicbee on their computers -- enough that the developers have been trying to make changes to the playlist formats to make syncing easier for musicbee.

Also, BlackPlayer has a free version, whereas the current options seem to only have free trials. (Not trying to say we shouldn't pay for apps, but it seemed like it might be something to consider).

Questions / Re: Album covers exist but not showing in album cover view
« on: September 28, 2019, 08:30:35 PM »
It's hard to tell from this screenshot but I'm guessing you have more tracks from that album? What I suspect is happening is the the artwork exist in some tracks but not others. If you can get the whole album together, you can easily copy the artwork from one track to all of them.

So even if it's happening to albums where I only have one song from that album would that be the case? I even right click on the album itself to edit it, and it shows the album art where it's supposed to be.

(I followed the guide's instructions but neither way seems to be working, so here's the link: https://imgur.com/ruPE87N)

The guide states that you need to use the link that points directly to the image and includes the image extension, which in this case should be: https://i.imgur.com/ruPE87N.png  .  That's why it didn't work.

Ah. The guide seemed to imply that just using the copy feature would include everything necessay, not that I'd need to add the extension. Thanks for the feedback.

Questions / Album covers exist but not showing in album cover view
« on: September 28, 2019, 05:21:04 PM »

As you can see here - when using album cover view, some of the albums show blank covers. However if you click on the album, you can see that it actually DOES have album art.

This is happening all over my library and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Editing to add: if I right click, select edit, and then just click save without making any changes it seems to make the picture show up. But it would be nice if I didn't have to do this for every single album.

Yeah I wasn't very impressed with the doubletwist/cloud player, isyncr..., and am just as baffled about the lack of iTunes comparable options available for Android.

It sounds like you're experiencing what I've been working through for at least a year or more - you're not just trying to get playlists to sync back and forth but your library as well and having issues there right?

If you're like me and feel comfortable settings it up for your entire library, or if you don't mind making a duplicate folder of music specifically for syncing to your phone, I would suggest looking jnto a free program called resilio sync. Its been the best option I've found for (wireless!) syncing of music, even better than syncthing, or even better than storing all my music in OneDrive - using resilio sync any edits I make to a song trigger it to move the old copy of the file to an archive, so if you accidentally screw something up you still have that old file. (One drive seemed to just be making a bunch of duplicates if I edited a file. Very frustrating). It's not a music program, just a file syncing program that basically mirrors your computer and phone files but it basically makes it as painless as iTunes for music files being on all your devices.

The only sticking point (for me so far) IS the playlist issue I started this thread for. I can create playlists in MusicBee, set it to export static copies to a folder that Resilio Sync that then syncs it to my phone and my music player there can read them. I just can't edit the playlist file on my phone and expect it to sync back to MusicBee. For me this isn't A HUGE issue since I rarely make changed to my playlists but I know everyone is different. (And obviously I'd still love to have that ability since I made this thread).

Doubletwist, and the cloudplayer they also made, did work for me for a while in terms of syncing however I don't remember if it solved my playlist issue.  I remember I didn't want to pay to get the wifi syncing though.

Does doubletwist read musicbee playlists then?

Hi Varick,

Sorry I didn't respond earlier I don't seem to get any notifications letting me know people have replied. That being said I haven't found any solutions since posting this. Technically I can use Resilio Sync to sync my music and my playlists between computer and phone but as phred said two-way sync doesn't work - This looks to be true even if you're just trying to do .m3u playlists and have confirmed that both MusicBee and the android app use relative file paths for their .m3u files.

In case you are wondering why 'relative file paths' is important ... From what I am able to tell, .m3u files are lists of the file locations of the songs. Those file paths differ depending on your operating system - for example windows would like something like C:/user...../music/artist/album/musicfile but on android it could be Storage/Music/artist/album/musicfile. I believe that as long as you keep your music files the same (music/artist/album/musicfile) relative file paths should enable the playlist to be read the same no matter what operating system it's on. At least, that's what I'm assuming. I understand different operating systems work differently but I'm no developer and have just been trying to poke around to find my answer as best I can.

I have MusicBee set up so that the playlists are stored as MPB, and the ones I want to sync are set to automatically export as .m3u. I currently use Resilio Sync to sync my music and I can easily add the playlists folder, however

I want any changes I make to the playlist, either in MusicBee or on my phone to sync to each other. So if I update the mpb file, it will sync to the exported file automatically, and then through Resilio Sync to my phone. If I update the playlist on my phone it will sync back to the exported file, and then back into MusicBee's MBP version of the playlist.

I think this should be possible using the virtual device option in MusicBee but when I try I see in the settings that two-way synchronization isn't possible.

Is this possible or if I want them to sync should I be just using .m3u files everywhere?
