The 'Music' node is available in the left sidebar navigator panel:

Can I suggest that you spend a little time reading the wiki as it can help you understand the basics:

Questions / Re: Artist First Character in Folder Structure
« on: August 12, 2023, 12:26:22 AM »
How does that act to the word "The". Like "The 1975". Would it put it in "1" or "T"?
It will return the first character 'T'

If you have not changed the default settings you could use <Sort Album Artist> in place of <Album Artist>
For the band 'The 1975', the <Sort Album Artist> value will be '1975, The' so the function $Left(<Sort Album Artist>,1) will return '1'

$Group(<Album Artist>,1)
This function will return the first letter but will group any number as 0-9

$Left(<Album Artist>,1)
This function will return the fist number or letter - I think this is what you are asking for.

$FirstChar(<Album Artist>)
Don't think this is a valid function so not sure how it 'works'.

Questions / Re: Notification Popup - Display Next Track
« on: August 11, 2023, 08:48:02 PM »
No, I believe that this popup (now-playing notification) will only display the now playing track.

I do not believe that you can prevent video files showing in the folder browser view.

My recommendation would be to use the Music node of the library where you have more control and configuration options - the video files will be in the Video node (or can be sent there). You can also put audiobooks in the Audiobook node etc. It is worth experimenting with this - you have nothing to lose (well maybe some time).

Other than that you will have to move the video files to another folder.
This needn't be time consuming - using 'Tracks' view you can set '.ext' as a displayed field, sort by that and then select all video types to move in one go (or maybe two or three).
If the video files are well tagged you can send to an organised folder structure (right click - Send To - Folder (Move) - Move Files to Organised Folder). You can preview what is going to change before proceeding but, as always, try this with one or just a few files first so that, just in case it is not a happy ending, it will be simple to put them back.

That's neat hiccup - I wouldn't have thought of using the column browser as a display for aggregate functions.
I don't really understand why your 'option A' sorts correctly though. Is this new virtual tag not a string? I would have thought it would sort '10 - ArtistX' before '9 - ArtistY'. However it does appear to sort numerically, so...

If you are willing to commit your column browser and a few virtual tags, and you are so inclined, you can create quite a nice Statistics Tab using your method (and a little additional virtual tag jiggery-pokery):

Apologies to polaris for usurping your thread - I hope you have a idea of how you might proceed.

Click on 'Folders' in the header (or on the word 'Computer' in the left sidebar navigator) - 'Manage Folders' and check 'Include Files from Sub-Folders'

I have some sympathy with the question here as this threw me for a while. Let me use a simplified example to illustrate:

My library consists of 1 album by The Clash and 1 album by The Mescaleros. All tracks are tagged with Joe Strummer as 'performer' as he is the vocalist on all and this allows me to search my library for all tracks involving him.
If I listen to 10 songs by The Clash and 5 by The Mescaleros the library statistics will be:
Joe Strummer     15
The Clash             10
The Mescaleros   5
I'm really not going to argue whether this is 'correct' or not but it could be construed that I have listened to 30 songs whereas in reality I have only listened to 15. It just shows that statistics need to be understood before being analysed.

For me, the answer was to tag Joe Strummer as 'Vocalist'. This maintains Joe Strummer as an artist in the Thumbnail and Column browsers (which is great) but will not include him in the library statistics. Of course others may disagree and want him to be counted in the stats, clearly a personal choice.

So, as a suggestion to the original question (at last!):
As Mayibongwe said, there is no way to exclude 'Performers' from the stats, but you might look at modifying the Artist tag for Jean-Yves Thibaudet from 'Performer' to 'Pianist' or 'Piano', which does.

Questions / Re: Possible to generate list of skipped/damaged tracks?
« on: August 04, 2023, 09:15:27 AM »
Not sure this is what you what - it will produce a list of tracks that you have chosen to skip but I don't know what you mean by a 'problem track'
Create an auto playlist with criteria <Skip Count> is greater than 0

Note that you can set <Skip Count> to be set as a displayed field in your playlist if that helps

Questions / Re: How to export Album titles from Dead Links list?

Edit Preferences - Tags (2).
Here you can set up the 'send to clipboard' tags (and <Path> is one)

This weekend I was trying to work out how to add a tag to a batch of files with already existing mixed values. Found this post - with the clear instructions and the presets working straight out of the box this task was made remarkably easy.
I might be a little late to this particular party but thanks, this is good stuff.

Questions / Re: Edit/Find feature in MusicBee
« on: July 31, 2023, 06:31:52 AM »
Not sure what you are referring to when saying 'There are two disk fields'. Assuming you mean disc X of Y:
X is the disc number - stored in tag <Disc#>
Y is the total number of discs in the album - stored in tag <Disc Count>
Both these tags are available in this Find/Custom Search window.

This does not configure any automatic organisation for your library. It is just a move command for whichever files you select but allows you to set the new storage path depending on the template. It won't affect any files you add in the future unless you tell it to.
You should be good to go.

Obviously this method uses the data held in your tags as the template so will create a path according to that data. Just be certain that is what you want before doing the whole library (and always keep a backup).

You can accomplish this with the command: Send to folder (move)->Move filles to organised folder
Then set your naming template to: $Left(<Artist>,1)\<Artist>\<Album>\<Tracks>
(you will be able to see a preview of the new organisation here before proceeding)

You can do the whole library at once this way, but obviously try a small group first to make sure it is working as expected.

Not sure why you might have lost your ratings in your first attempt.

There may be a much more elegant way to do this but I have added another virtual tag to flag whether a track has been rated:

Note that I have also changed the first virtual tag to use <Album Artist> as this will prevent albums with multiple artists from being split
