Questions / Re: Data lost in database
« on: June 24, 2025, 07:29:38 PM »
I have always found the MusicBee library database to be remarkably robust so I am not sure what might have happened for you to have lost this data - I can't say that I have ever lost any. But this does highlight the benefit of maintaining up-to-date backups!

As regards saving custom data to files - take a look at this post to see if you can gain an insight in how to proceed (but do ask again if you don't get anywhere):

Questions / Re: Shuffle playing tracks by album
« on: June 24, 2025, 06:04:59 PM »
The answer to this question will depend upon what you mean by 'just added tracks' (this might be a playlist, tracks just sent to the Playing Tracks panel, a selection of tracks in your library.....)
We would also need to know the view you are currently using.

It would be best if you could post a screenshot of your whole MusicBee window so we can see where you are and what you are referring to and to try and reduce the need for any further back and forth.

I don't think you could introduce multiple Love/Ban fields due to the functionality of the 'ban' setting:

When a track is 'banned' it is prevented from being selected for auto-playlists and is prevented from being played in many situations. If you had two Love/Ban fields, a single track could be both 'loved' and 'banned'.
(It would be unfair to ask MusicBee to decide and hence take sides in a domestic dispute of whether a track should be played or not.  :) )

A clickable Boolean type field sounds a little more interesting, especially if you could define the yes/no characters or strings to be displayed.
(Having said that, I will note that the <Ticked> field is already available, albeit somewhat visually unappealing, and I have never used this.)

Questions / Re: Custom LOVE rating column behaving like the default
« on: June 22, 2025, 12:15:17 PM »
So it seems that the click-to-set is custom-coded for just that unique column and not a general property of the "loved" field?
Correct, this is a hard-coded function for this field only - I don't believe that you can create a custom field with the same functionality.

Questions / Re: Can't save naming templates in File Organizer
« on: June 22, 2025, 12:02:18 PM »
I'm not sure what was happening back in 2017, but if you are using a current version of MusicBee then any file organisation template that you use is automatically saved and then becomes available in the 'presets' drop down list:

Questions / Re: posting photos in "Now Playing", version 3.6.9202
« on: June 20, 2025, 07:01:02 PM »
How can I import them onto the background of (only) the "Now Playing" screen?

If you have placed any artist picture files in the Artist Pictures folder then they should automatically be being used by MusicBee.

Ensure that the filenames begin with the exact 'Artist name' - for example 'The Beatles.jpg'
You can save multiple images for any artist by adding a suffix to the filename - for example 'The Beatles_1.jpg', 'The Beatles_2.jpg' etc. By default MusicBee will cycle through the multiple images (but you can turn that off too).

Ah, ok.

So do you have 'custom sorting' enabled? (Edit Preferences > Sorting/Grouping - enable custom sort values for..........')
If so you might want to 'Edit Custom Sort Values' for 'Artist, Composer' - just remove any custom sort values you don't want.

Questions / Re: Playlists are empty after Hard Drive failed.
« on: June 17, 2025, 06:43:12 PM »
Hi HM2008 (and welcome to the forum),

Moving playlist files can cause the links in these to be lost while at the same time the library links to music files can be retained - it is hard to say what happened as we don't really know what you did with the playlist files.

So the first step going forward is to work out where MusicBee believes the tracks in the playlist to be. Picking one track:
  1. Where does MusicBee think the file is? To determine this, hover you mouse pointer over the exclamation mark to the left - this will open a pop-up detailing where MusicBee is looking (best to take a screenshot of this as the pop-up only stays open for a short time and you must ensure you are accurate with this).
  2. Compare this path to the actual path this file is located on your hard drive?

Repeat these steps with a few different tracks and you will hopefully see a pattern emerging.

You maybe able to use the relink music file paths function now but let us know what you find before proceeding - you need to be a little careful here not to replace valid paths in your library.

The image you posted appears to show the main panel already sorted by artist name.
Is that not correct or is that not what you are referring to?

Questions / Re: Most played songs in the year
« on: June 17, 2025, 06:08:45 PM »
offtopic: may it be widely useful to have the ability to auto-run some ASR presets at given days or dates (discarding year part)?

That's an interesting idea Boroda, I had not considered that.
Whether there would be enough usage of this to make the work worthwhile, I'm not currently sure. Others may have ideas on how it might be used and I will keep it in mind - if I see anything else that might use this I'll let you know or send them your way.

Good to see you back by the way - it looks like you are making up for your absence by having one massive posting session today!  :D

Questions / Re: Virtual Device question
« on: June 16, 2025, 08:59:09 PM »
I have indeed a separate folder per playlist with everything numbered in that folder as described. My old car radio doesn't handle playlists well but has no problem reading a folder and following the numbering so, it kinda acts as a playlist. I hope i make sense.
This makes perfect sense and I am guessing that this is exactly what this feature is for.

The reason i was asking this is, that some playlists are getting close to 999 and i do not know what happens then. So i thought maybe it's possible to add a zero somehow.
I honestly don't know what happens but I would expect that the four digits will be trimmed to three so the numbers will start to be repeated (which will mess up your playlist). Best to try it and see though just in case....

Questions / Re: Can't add some files
« on: June 16, 2025, 08:21:26 PM »
I have to agree with sveakul here - I'm not close to deciphering what you have done.

However it does sound like you are saying that files you know to exist in a folder are not being added.
When you 'add files' or 'scan folder for new files' and nothing happens, this is generally due to the files already being in the library, albeit you cannot find them - they could be in the Inbox, in Audiobooks or just tagged incorrectly.

I went through this with another forum member a little while ago so, in addition to what sveakul has suggested, it may be worth having a read through this post: https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=42940.msg235489#msg235489

Music\<Album Artist>\<Album>\<Disc-Track#> <Title>
Template shows it is using <Disc-Track#> <Title>

So I am unsure of how you are getting "002-Queen-Bohemian Rhapsody.flac" with the above settings.
I would have thought it would be in the form of the templates/ settings outlined above...
1-02 Bohemian Rhapsody.flac
Yes, you are absolutely right here but my suspicion is that Gendji is not telling us the whole story.

Filenames with the format 002-Queen-Bohemian Rhapsody.flac are created when saving playlist files into a single folder - the '002' number will be the playlist (#) number padded to 3 digits. This is used so as to maintain track order within the playlist and to ensure that there are no duplicate filenames created.

So Gendji , I am guessing that you are also using the option 'create a sub-folder for each playlist and its tracks'. If this is the case then I am afraid that you are out of luck as I do not believe that there are any configuration options for the filename here.

If this is not the case then can you post a screenshot of your device settings.
