Portable Devices / Re: libgpod
« on: January 13, 2012, 06:05:34 PM »
Well, the problem is that there is two different interfaces.  libgpod works with the older devices and the libimobiledevice takes care of talking to the new iOS devices (or so it seems from my readings).  If you look at how iTunes progressed, it was originally self contained to talk to the iPods.  Then with iOS, they introduced a new service (at least in Windows) for the communication.  These two open source libraries seem to work in the same fashion.

I don't know library Steven is currently using, but as he said, it isn't really supported anymore and doesn't seem to work reliably with new iTunes.

For the iOS devices, there might have be an additional library: libimobiledevice

http://www.libimobiledevice.org/

Just like for Windows, iTunes could talk to iPods, but needed the new mobile device server in place to talk to newer iTouch and iPhones.  I believe it's a similar setup in Linux.

Portable Devices / Re: iPod Nano 3g syncs all songs, but not the playlists

well, I had to reinstall MB at some point because the beta was eating up my library and reassigning art work, so it thought it was a new sync and didn't have room.
if you are going to make comments in those terms then suggest you use another app as i will make no further time for you

I wasn't commenting on it with any tone or accusation.  I could have been a little clearer in my description.  My actual files and artwork weren't corrupted or changed AT ALL.  My library file was what went whacky and any file I played starting to get assigned the same artwork.    I was just noting that between switching around with the betas, something happened to my library file.  I went back to the base 1.3 version, recreated the library, and everything was fine. I appreciate the time you spend on the software.

EDIT: cleanup

I did a full restore in iTunes and then tried to sync.  It worked better than before, but still only got 16/19 playlists.  All of the songs made it though fine (till it ran out of room).  The songs on the missing playlists did make it though, so they should have been synced fully.

I don't know how you're syncing to Apple devices, but since it seems that it won't work well going forward (iTunes 10.5+) at the moment, you might want to look into using libgpod if you aren't already.  This way, you can offload all of that work to this library, and they seem to keep it pretty up to date, as most/all Linux music players use it for syncing to Apple devices.

Of course, with it being GPL, you'd have to comply with those license requirements if you made any alterations.

Yes, MB has all of the correct playlists in both sections.

I have recently updated iTunes, but I don't use it to sync with the nano...I've only used MusicBee.  It has problems playing nice when I tried to use both so I just did a full device reset, which worked until 1.3.  I just did another full reset and now the playlists won't sync.  The nano firmware version hasn't changed though (although, I supposed the driver versions did).

Hm, it was my security software (Comodo).  When I turn off the spyware protection, I can run it (which isn't a problem normally).

Here are the new results:
--
[Edit: removed playlists --  all the desired playlists showed up as synced]

-----------------
MB think it has all the correct playlists, and all the songs are there.  But the iPod only thinks it has:  [edit: removed 6 playlists that synced].  The rest are missing.

Actually, it wouldn't run.  An error box popped up with "An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions".  I tried running it normally and as administrator.

The error log popped with the following:

It's still not working.  MB thinks it has them synced, but they aren't showing up.  I can try out a debug version.

there were some out of space errors from my sync attempts yesterday, but I nothing today from the complete refresh.  And it currently has 243 mb free, so, that shouldn't be a problem anyway.  I've noticed that on the first sync, it can fit most things in, but when I remove some songs, I don't necessarily get all that space back.

Portable Devices / iPod Nano 3g syncs all songs, but not the playlists
« on: November 22, 2011, 09:09:23 PM »
I am syncing my nano 3g (on a fresh restore of it).  Since it's only 8 GB, I select which playlists I want to copy over.  This worked fin in 1.2.  However, on the new 1.3, it will sync the songs correctly, but the actual playlists don't get synced.  MB thinks it has synced all of the lists, but in reality, only like 7 out of 20 are showing up on the actual device.  All the music files are there though.
