Questions / Auto DJ repeating same tracks in Playlist...
« on: March 18, 2021, 04:09:33 PM »
Hi All

I'm trying to create an Auto DJ playlist, but Auto DJ keeps repeating the same tracks over and over again.

I have a small Jazz/Blues playlist made up of 76 tracks played by 8 different artists.

Settings are...

Initial List Size: 76 tracks
Selection Mode: Random by Track
Restrictions: Gap before same Artist repeats = 3
Conditional Filter: Last Played is not in the last 1 Day

The 76 Tracks created by the Auto DJ were made up of 54 separate tracks from the original playlist, with 19 of them repeating multiple times.

I want Auto DJ to play each track just once and not repeat them.

Is this possible?

I listen to all my music in shuffled playlists defined by music genre, with Shuffle set to the "Different Same artist preferred each track" option.

The problem is that it doesn't work very well, and I always end up with tracks from the same artist queued-up one after the other, which I then have to manually separate.

The worst case I've had so far was a Playlist of 338 tracks from 76 separate artists in which 12 tracks from the same artist were all grouped together, or another one where 8 or so tracks each from 2 separate artists alternated, one after the other, at the end of the list.

The "Gap before same artist can repeat" option in Auto DJ works great, and I would love to see it incorporated into the Shuffle functions.

Sorry, I don't think you can.

I've set a different Playlist Picture for each of my playlists, and then set Auto-pick Panel Colors in the options.

Questions / Re: Shuffle Playlist Track problems…

Okay, after playing around with the settings it seems the best way to Shuffle a Playlist is to Right Click on the required Playlist in the Left Sidebar Panel, or the Playlist Header in the Main Panel, and select Play Shuffled.

Before doing that go to Preferences, Now Playing / Shuffle Settings, and ensure Different Same Artist is selected on the slider control.

Set the Shuffle On/Off Auto DJ control to (Shuffle) Off.

I've never found the Shuffling to be perfect, and always get multiple tracks from the same artist(s) being grouped together; the worst instance I've seen so far was in a Playlist of 338 tracks by 76 artists, and 12 tracks by the same artist were arranged to play one after the other.

If you go to Playing Tracks in the Right Sidebar Panel you can break-up those groupings by moving the required tracks up or down the list.

Questions / Shuffle Playlist Track problems…
« on: March 14, 2021, 02:19:13 PM »
Hi All

I listen to all my music in Playlists, which I Shuffle: Shuffle with Different Artist Bias / Shuffle Tracks Individually.

In Preferences, Now Playing / Shuffle settings are set to Random.

The initial problem is that the Shuffle function would still clump tracks together from the same artist one after another in a Playlist containing, for instance, 338 tracks by 76 different artists.

In previous versions of MB I could go to the Upcoming Tracks list on the right and manually shift tracks around to break up the groupings, because the list showed all the tracks in the Playlist.

In the latest version, 3.4.7737, the Upcoming Tracks now only shows a maximum of 100 tracks, which means I can no longer manually sort the tracks.

Is there a way ‘round this?

Thanks

Is this error specific to v3.3?

I've been using MB since 2017 and never saw this error 'til I did a fresh install of v3.3.7491 yesterday.

Since then I've had this error pop-up half a dozen times or more while I've been building my library/configuring MB etc.

Thanks.

Questions / Transfer Playlists and Setting etc to new PC.
« on: February 14, 2020, 10:57:32 PM »
Hi All

I’m building a new Win10 PC and want to transfer all my playlists, settings, and the layout of MB itself, if possible, to the new PC.

My Music Library is stored on its own, non OS, drive.

Is there a tutorial on how to do this?

When I built my last system I installed the Music Library drive, then recreated the Playlists and MB Layout from scratch, a long and tedious process I would rather not have to repeat! LOL!

Thanking you in advance
Paul

Windows sees the internal and external as two different drives. If you could find a way to 'link' them together as one drive, then MB would see it as one drive. But I don't think it can be done easily. Or at all.

Exactly, that's what the firmware on a Hybrid or Fusion drive will do, effectively "link" the mechanical drive and SSD chips, telling the OS what it's dealing with.

As for a bigger SD card, only buy reputable brands, and only buy from reputable resellers such as Amazon or Newegg. Do NOT buy from a 3rd party on any site, it will usually say something along the lines of, "Sold by ABC Co, fulfilled by whatever site you're on." Those 3rd party resellers are ground zero for counterfeits and fakes.

I don't know that that's possible, you're basically asking MusicBee to treat two separate pieces of storage media as a single volume, kind of like a Hybrid Drive in a PC or a Fusion Drive in a Mac.

In both cases the system OS is actually managing the drive(s), with a possible assist from firmware on the drive.

Perhaps the developer could chime in here, or one of the more technically minded mods etc.

Portable Devices / Re: tranfering playlists to sony walkman

@ Spencer

Sorry, never was. I just have individual playlists with no subfolders.

The biggest issue for me is the inability of the Sony to read the Replaygain Track Values, so no Sound Leveling.

The only way 'round that is to make a duplicate of your playlists and then permanently adjust the track volume to the Replaygain value in MusicBee before transferring the Playlists to the Walkman, so your music collection then takes up twice as much space on your system HD.

I haven't researched it since my original post, but at that time as far as I could discover the only DAP's that could read Replaygain values were Android devices, but you had to use a 3rd party app from the Google Store.

If anyone has any updated information or other workarounds on this issue I'd love to hear them!

@ Spencer

Yeah, I'd tried the same thing with the same results, each track was duplicated, hence "Note 1."

NOTE 1: If you have separate tracks from Band X in Playlists 1 & 2, but would also like to have a Playlist of JUST Band X, if you check “create a sub-folder…” MusicBee will create 3 folders on your Sony, Playlist 1 and 2 and Band X. The Band X folder is a duplicate of all the music already in lists 1 & 2, taking up unnecessary space on your device.

Questions / Re: Move music to new HD, keep playlists etc...

Thanks Frankz, that worked perfectly!  :)

I added a new file to the new drive, then imported it to my library/playlist and everything works exactly the way it should.

Questions / Move music to new HD, keep playlists etc...
« on: December 01, 2018, 06:00:16 PM »
Hello All

I need to move my music files to a new, larger drive, but without losing my playlists.

I initially looked at the Send to / Folder (Move) command but that only seems to work on individual files, and not folders.

I copied my music to the new drive and assumed there would be a simple option to point MB at the new location, but if there is I can't find it.

My PC is Win7 Pro with the latest patches etc, my MB is v3.1.6950.

Hope you can help!
Paul
