Questions / Re: Custom Views in Main panel ("Albums"- View)

Try playing with the options from this menu maybe? Or be more specific =]

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

Boroda, yes this would of been helpful, had i known of the option. Other devices still may use the replay gain info though.

"Edit > Preferences > Player > Normalise volume of tracks with replay gain tags"

Hiccup, yes that was my intention just to find all effected files to adjust from one location. virtual tags do allow for filtering "track gain" and i could of made that to make a playlist. Useful for future hunting down of gain adjusted files.

Zak, ha that is buried! Actually it is the opposite of what i was attempting but would allow me to custom tag or flag these, still that's a nice list of things in "Files to Edit" that i didn't realise had a built in option to surface.

In the end [before seeing these replies] i just made a playlist of my library and inbox, added "Track Gain" as a displayed field then sorted by it, selected all effected files and ran restore original volume. It was about 2k+ of tracks affected and was simple enough to do.

Imo all of these solutions [including mine] are a bit of a work around considering the auto-playlist feature allows for almost all metrics to be considered and it's available as a choice when creating custom tags. I still think my suggestion stands as fair [as it seems relatively simple, but i may be wrong].

Out of curiosity the function is referred to in 3 different ways if i'm not mistaken "Volume Leveling" in track properties, "Replay Gain" in some preferences and as "Track Gain" in fields. I can imagine confusion for some users [myself included] if they all all relate to the same setting. Thanks again people, once again such minor nitpicks from me. Cheers =]

Hey, the rule list for the auto-playlist is fantastic and very extensive, but i can't seem to find a way to filter the volume levelled tracks with it. Just a small request hopefully to add it or track gain etc to the list.

In the meantime I can just make a full playlist and add the "track gain" column and sort by that i guess, as i intend to remove most cases of of the levelling. Thanks for the consideration and for this amazing program!

Questions / Re: File Permission
« on: August 06, 2018, 04:46:29 AM »
Actually Avast is off the hook for this one, was initially thrown off after reading load settings snapshot isn't strictly to be used like I did. Had briefly checked the music files in group select properties and found they were not read only however group select doesn't display the "Security" tab and that's where my issue was. Permission for "Everyone" was not set to "Full Control" after rectifying this MB has no problems editing, moving or adding music.

Anyhow had MB running in admin mode for a while before making more time to look at the problem this evening, read about Avast causing issues and remembered I had this problem with them clashing last year, so disabled Avast shields still no good, so reinstalled MB with Avast disabled and it worked... till next time when it wasn't, so uninstalled Avast still no good. Odd, so I reinstalled MB again and it worked, restarting MB however had the issue reoccur, so I double check the files which I thought I had and foolishly noticed the problem.

My bad. =] Avast is getting more bloated by default, you can disable/remove the majority of the crunk in the settings, as you say though on weaker hardware it can cumbersome, Defender has improved but personally hate how tiresome dealing with false positives can be with it.

This thread can be locked or whatever, thanks all.

Skins / Re: player control/main player skining problem
« on: August 06, 2018, 04:15:10 AM »
Would that be "prebaked" into an xmlc skin and allow editing through the player options, I gather that's what happened here. I've not even dabbled in to skin options other than editing through the player options so don't have much to add. It's a good suggestion to maybe move this thread, thanks for correcting me. =]

Questions / Re: "Organise Library" Adds <disc-track#> multiple times.
« on: August 06, 2018, 02:39:10 AM »
I think that is likely, they were tagged correctly before. Avast prevented MusicBee from launching a long time ago, I had forgot about it till I read the sticky, that's when I tested and found Avast to be an issue with file access for MB now, yet works fine when launched as admin, been busy so not looked at it more yet. So it's only had the chance to actually adjust the files whilst I had it in admin mode for the past week, if Avast is still blocking tag reads during that period for MB to even change files.

------------------------------------------
Update: spent some time checking and what threw me was that on initial install of MB it will allow file manipulation (but not drag and drop music addition) yet on next launch of MB all that permission is denied, turns out since fresh windows install on new SSD my other drives had a weird permission setup, not allowing full control for "everyone", went down the wrong rabbit hole after reading that settings snapshot strictly supposed to be used the way i did and not made time to dig in till now.
------------------------------------------

It's odd how it's only affected some (15~) albums and not even all tracks on them, I had not played those songs in that time.

Also on my other post (sorry i have a few up for things atm) about the "MusicBeeLibrary.mbl" storing song ratings, I am fairly certain that all the ratings effected were imported ratings from iTunes. So iTunes doesn't apply the tag to the songs correctly and when imported MB doesn't actually effect the files I'd wager. Not sure if that's an interaction that merits change, would be possibly intensive on first load for large libraries?

Thanks for the suggestion.

Skins / Re: player control/main player skining problem
« on: August 06, 2018, 02:21:34 AM »
I think it's because the skin is "xmlc"? Which basically means it was compiled and not directly editable.
Since these allow .png images and can change the buttons, you can try yourself to change it with SkinCreator,
not tried it myself, other skins which are just "xml" are editable but won't have fancy buttons ^^

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable on this than me will answer. Looks nice though, cheers.

Questions / Re: File Permission
« on: August 05, 2018, 11:04:34 AM »
Okay, so after quite a few re-installs and fiddling I think that Avast Antivirus has been my issue, it doesn't prevent MB launching just blocks file access so i kept hitting brick walls.

Yes, you are correct.

However they did not used to have that extra info in the title tags before.

I'll update if it happens again, thanks for the reply. =]

Questions / MusicBeeLibrary.mbl Stores Some Song Ratings
« on: August 05, 2018, 12:30:07 AM »
Hi, just wondering if this is an intended feature or not?

So finally got around to taking note of my settings and doing a clean install of MusicBee,
since fresh install of windows (new SSD) and misuse of "settings snapshot" left MB no permissions without elevation,
adjusted everything to my liking. All good could use MB as normal... when I noticed hundreds of my ratings had been wiped.

Not all of them, curiously mostly older ones before i changed rating system to include half stars i would guess.
Anyway this left my slightly aghast and puzzled, ratings should be saved in the ID3 Tags?
And they were there since my new SSD install, so i threw in my old MusicBee settings and the ratings were back,
(and also the MB permission problem) so I reverted to the fresh MB settings and the same missing ratings went again.

In trying to isolate the file I copied my old "MusicBeeLibrary.mbl" over to the fresh profile and found my ratings,
so for some reason "MusicBeeLibrary.mbl" contains a bunch of rating info...

I've made playlists of all tracks per rating so i can quickly restore without fear, just thought I would ask.
Sorry to be a bother, thanks for your time.

Update: I am fairly certain that all the ratings effected were imported ratings from iTunes when i migrated.
So iTunes doesn't apply the tag to the songs correctly and when imported MB doesn't actually effect the files I'd wager.
Not sure if that's an interaction that merits change, would possibly be intensive on first load for large libraries?

Questions / "Organise Library" Adds <disc-track#> multiple times.
« on: August 04, 2018, 10:58:04 PM »
So on latest release of MusicBee, fresh install as well now. MB>Edit>Preferences>Library>Organisation
I notice an issue on some (not all) albums where MusicBee wants to duplicate the <disc-track#> value...

template: <Album Artist>\<Year (yyyy)> - <Album>\<Disc-Track#> <Title>
good example: Billie Holiday\1957 - Body and Soul\1-05 Comes Love.mp3
bad example: Billie Holiday\1957 - Body and Soul\1-05 1-05 Comes Love.mp3

https://imgur.com/np19wCS Shows "naming template" and exception example.
https://imgur.com/GBBr4yO Shows regular case naming template file with same problem.

The reason i have two sets for moving and naming templates is for convenience,
MusicBee will perform the same operations to a file from Drive D:\ or E:\ when adding.

As shown in images above MusicBee has already done this and wants to repeat the mistake again.
Any suggestions or things you need to know? Thanks for your time.

Questions / Re: Can't edit some files / Red exclamation mark
« on: July 28, 2018, 06:35:51 PM »
Did you use the "MusicBee > Edit > Saved Settings > Load Settings Snapshot" after reinstalling MusicBee?
If yes and your MusicBee is installed to a different path or something that may effect permissions, possibly.

Can you edit any files in MusicBee? Do you use any "preferences > library > auto-organisation" settings?

Questions / Re: HOW TO SHOW TRACK NUMBER
« on: July 28, 2018, 06:19:52 PM »
I think they want the current "track number" displayed in the scroll bar next to the player controls etc, this can be customised by...

"MusicBee > Edit > Edit Preferences" select tab "Now Playing" and near the bottom tick "scroll in player as:" and you can define how it is displayed.

eg: "<Artist> - <Track#> <Title>" would look like "Grizzly Bear - 07 Ready, Able"

Questions / Re: Sort by Duration
« on: July 20, 2018, 08:27:52 PM »
Yes, "Time" is track length, there are many ways, fastest may be to make an auto-playlist:

Near your existing playlists Rclick > New > New Auto-Playlist.

Name it "Empty Files" or something, Display Using View: Track Details,
Music Track Source [yes] Music Library,
Match All,
Time | Is Less Than | 0:10,
[ no] filter,
[ no] limit,
[yes] automatically refresh the matching tracks,
[ no] export.

Save.

This will list out tracks less than 10 seconds long, you can highlight and delete what you want, or change that value to just 0:00 if you want.
