Questions / Disc burner
« on: December 26, 2011, 12:49:59 PM »
i've started looking at creating a disc burner in MB. What i have been able to acheive so far is:
- erase disc
- data disc burning
- audio-cd burning with 2 sec gap between tracks

what i am still looking at but cant get working:
- audio cd burning with no gap

what wont be supported:
- cd text writing (isnt supported by the Microsoft API i am using)

My question to people interested is do you think audio-cd burning with no gap is important or nice to have? (I guess its mainly relevant if you were burning a continous live album mix where the tracks run into each other)

Although it is supported by the Microsoft API, the documentation is sparse and the only example i found with it in use doesnt work either, so it may well be the case i wont be able to solve this one.

Skins / New MusicBee Default Skin
« on: December 18, 2011, 10:02:34 AM »
i have made some enhancements to the MusicBee skins so that gaps between panels can be eliminated (see http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=2499.msg28625#msg28625 if you are interested to make your own skin with this)
http://www.mediafire.com/?o7idq2wfcfwgg4b

it requires a new version of musicbee.exe (1.4.4369+ and if this link is no longer valid, the latest weekly update)

MusicBee Wishlist / Volume Analysis Enhancements
« on: December 06, 2011, 09:01:00 PM »
Steven: For Volume Analysis, that is true. However, it doesn't allow me to control how high/low I want the album's volume to be (the default on MP3Gain is 89.0 dB, but in most cases, I like my albums to be louder than that, about 92 to 94 dB). Also, it doesn't detect clipping either.

Also, I use MP3Tag since I can use its Extended Tags feature (similar to MB's Tag Inspector) to edit multiple tags at a time.

VX: Exactly.
not directly related to this thread, but i have enhanced the volume analysis function so that the calculated replaygain values can optionally be notched up or down, and also an option to alert if sound would be clipped using the calculated replaygain values (but my opinion is most songs these days are cranked up to max loudness with little dynamic range, so the replaygain adjustment is usually downwards anyway and clipping wouldnt apply so thats why i have never bothered with this in the past)

Plugins / Lyrics Plugin
« on: November 05, 2011, 10:52:01 AM »
I've started off a plugin that can retrieve lyrics from web-sites that dont have an API. For now its just LyricsTime.com, Dark Lyrics, AZ Lyrics, lrc123.com (has synchronised lyrics), SongMeanings.net, Rap Genius, PLyrics.com (punk),  and UrbanLyrics.com
I dont have any plans to maintain this and hoping someone will pick this up and add other web-sites

http://www.mediafire.com/download/5t877tld29xt2b0/mb_LyricsPlugin.zip

Just unzip into the Plugins folder where MusicBee is installed (or create the folder if it doesnt exist). You can order the priority of the lyrics providers in the Tags(2) preferences screen

Plugins / Minilyrics Helper
« on: August 18, 2011, 08:19:57 PM »
This plugin integrates lyrics downloaded by mini-lyrics into the musicbee lyrics panel.

First you need the mini-lyrics application from Crintsoft:
http://www.crintsoft.com/dl.htm
if you prefer the mini-lyrics GUI for displaying lyrics then thats all you need (its very nice!) - it integrates with MusicBee and shows lyrics for the playing track

but if you prefer to have lyrics displayed in musicbee:
- create a folder where MusicBee is installed called Plugins
eg. C:\Program Files\MusicBee\Plugins
- and unzip to the Plugins folder
  plugin:
  https://getmusicbee.com/download/plugins/mb_MiniLyricsHelper.zip

- restart MusicBee
- you will need to configure the plugin in the Plugin Preferences panel and it will need to match how you configure mini-lyrics eg. if you configure minilyrics to download lyrics to a specific folder, you will need to configure this helper plugin to reference the same folder

also see http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=4206 for other useful info

Plugins / Winamp Input Plugins
« on: July 24, 2011, 08:12:07 PM »
Requires MusicBee v1.3.4222+

Winamp input plugins allow you to extend the file formats that MusicBee can play eg. play Shorten or DTS files which are not natively supported in MusicBee

bass_winamp.dll - place this in the folder where MusicBee.exe is installed
http://www.mediafire.com/?a9mumx736dvjd59
now included with the musicbee release package

then create a sub-folder called Plugins eg.
c:\Program Files\MusicBee\Plugins

and place the winamp input plugins there eg. see http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=3867.msg21930#msg21930
eg. Shorten:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Audio/Audio-Plugins/ShnAmp.shtml
DTS:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ac3filter/files/winampac3/winampac3_1_20a/

Skins / Bitmap based skins
« on: June 26, 2011, 08:44:15 PM »
i've created a rendering engine that will eventually enable MB to render bitmap based skins. For now its only for the main player control panel.

for the skin creator:
put this in a separate directory from MB
http://www.mediafire.com/file/9lawezbun0xac76/SkinCreator.zip/file

the program will load a file: skin.xml (included with zip) and render it according to the layout and referenced bitmaps. The example skin references Dark.xml for the colours for the following elements
Player.DisplayPanel
Player.Control.Default
Player.Control.Disabled
Player.Control.Highlight
Player.StarRating.Default
Player.StarRating.Lowlight
Player.SpectrumDefault
Player.SpectrumDead
Player.SpectrumLow
Player.SpectrumMedium
Player.SpectrumHigh

a couple of things need setting in skin.xml:
1. you need to reference a colour skin in the root node (and it needs to be in the same folder as skin.xml) eg.
<root sourceSkin="Dark">

2. a new property for the ProgressBar element - when playing web files/ podcasts and the file is buffering, MB displays a buffering graphic. This new attribute tells MB the area the graphic can be displayed - in this example, the top 4/bottom 2 pixels wont be drawn in
<element id="ProgressBar" parent="TrackInfoPanel">
  ..
  <bufferingMargin top="4" bottom="2" left="1" right="1" />
  ..
</element>

when ready, you need to use the Save button to create a compiled skin (make sure you save the compiled skin to the musicbee Skins folder).

I've created an example in the zip to show what can be done.

WARNING: at this point its easy to crash the program if you do something thats invalid eg. set the layout of an element such that the width is zero, or reference a bitmap that doesnt exist. It copies the last loaded skin to skin.bak, so just rename skin.bak to skin.xml if you run into problems or contact me to resolve

Plugins / Subsonic Client
« on: June 05, 2011, 09:43:25 PM »
*** this plugin has been replaced ***
see the end of this topic for the latest information.
The download link is now on:

https://github.com/midwan/MB_SubSonic/releases
or the official Plugin page http://musicbee.wikia.com/wiki/Subsonic_Client

-------------------------------------------------------
Subsonic (http://www.subsonic.org/pages/index.jsp) is an application that allows you to access your music files from any location with internet access to a home server you host your music files on. This plugin enables MusicBee to access those music files via Subsonic.

Subsonic Plugin (MB_SubSonic.dll)
http://www.mediafire.com/?j6iklfm8kzhfpkt

- if you dont have a Plugins sub-folder where MB is installed create one
- copy MB_SubSonic.dll to the Plugins sub-folder
- you should end up with something like: c:\program files\MusicBee\Plugins\MB_SubSonic.dll
- restart MB, and in the Plugin preferences enable Subsonic
  - host is your server name without the http:// at the start
  - port is the server port
  - path is normally the default "\" but it is possible to configure subsonic to be something else so you need to enter the same
  - username
  - password
  - transcode stream - only tick if you need to reduce the size of the file streamed from the server because the connection is slow
- on clicking Apply, MB will validate the settings - any errors are those as returned by Subsonic and I probably wont be able to help so you might need to visit the Subsonic forum for help

If no error is reported on setup, a Subsonic drive will appear in the computer section. Clicking the parent node will show the entire library, but you can also view playlists and folders. It will take some time to initially load the main Subsonic node the very first time (several minutes to 30 minutes for very large libraries on slow connections). It should be quick from then on

You can reference the subsonic drive from Auto-Playlists, the Auto-DJ or create manual playlists (but in all cases these reside in your MusicBee library, not on the Subsonic server). If you add files to your local MusicBee library, MB will keep track of playcounts and enable ratings to be stored (but only in the local MusicBee library cache, not on the server).

In the main panel, MusicBee will only show the tags that Subsonic makes available which are the basic ones you need (Artist, Title, Album, Track#, Year, Genre and Duration). Unfortunately it doesnt include Album Artist.

MusicBee Wishlist / Library filters in AutoDJ and Auto-Playlists
« on: June 05, 2011, 02:07:51 PM »
this has been asked for a few times, so anyone interested to try it out, you can now choose a library filter as the criteria for the Auto DJ and auto-playlists. This library listbox has been expanded to include the filters in the drop-down

i've done the following:
- fixed the next track bug
- support drag/drop of an album by dragging the album picture in Album & Tracks view (already supported in the Artwork view)
- when the album selector popup menu is open in the Artwork view, the album cover for the selected album is displayed

if anyone using this could try out the next track function just to make sure i havent overlooked something
