General Discussions / Tag Hierarchy Explorer
« on: March 11, 2023, 08:34:57 AM »
I am thinking of changing the Tag Hierarchy Explorer so it behaves consistently with the Library Explorer and would no longer react to other filters such as the thumbnail browser ie. it would consistently show all items and not be filtered. Of course clicking an item in the Tag Hierarchy Explorer will filter the main panel and other panels.
Just giving the opportunity first for anyone to object before I make the change

Questions / Playing tracks list per library?
« on: July 21, 2022, 09:54:01 AM »
While investigating an issue I realise there is something I have been overlooking. The Playing Tracks list is saved per library but I realise now that switching libraries doesnt actually load the Playing Tracks list for that library ie. it preserves the list from the old library and then overwrites the new library playing tracks list when exiting MB.
My question is, for those of you with multiple libraries, do you agree it should load and maintain a playing tracks list per library? So that means when switching libraries a new playing track list loads. I guess that would mean playback should stop and the current track set to the last played for the new library?

Interested to hear any views people might have on this

MusicBee Wishlist / Brighten text colours for custom backgrounds
« on: June 26, 2022, 10:30:46 AM »
I am thinking about enhancing the custom background image functionality so the brightness of text displayed on a custom background is increased. It will most benefit skins that use dim text colours for dark skins.
I would rather not add another setting for it but was wondering if anyone objected in principal?

Any windows 11 users, applying update KB5013943 causes MusicBee to fail to start.
For myself I uninstalled that update.
I gather its something to do with the update removing .NET 3.5, so you could also re-install .NET 3.5
I don't know why that would affect MusicBee as its been using .NET4.6.1 for ages and recently .NET4.8

found this article which might be helpful

General Discussions / Disabling forum registrations
« on: May 10, 2022, 10:09:41 AM »
Most of you probably are not aware that this forum is bombarded with new registrations by spammers, and for some time I have been manually approving them in order to filter out the obvious ones.
However its recently taken a turn for the worse where there is now a new account is attempted to be registered every few minutes and it very quickly resumes when I change the challenge questions, so the number of accounts to approve is overwhelming.
There is a google captcha plugin which could help but unfortunately it doesnt work when cloudfare is being used and i'm not proficient at managing a website/ forum or at web development to be able to do anything about it.
If anyone has any suggestions or can help in some way then let me know but for now I think i will disable registrations over night

Things should be back to normal now

MusicBee Wishlist / File saving and tag editor enhancements
« on: January 06, 2021, 09:06:09 AM »
The functions that update tags, including the tag editor now have the following functionality:
- when the selected files are loaded and displayed in the dialog window, MB now checks for missing and read-only files
- if any are found an alert icon shows by the Proceed button
- if you click Proceed when there are missing files, an error message will show, listing all those file names and MB will not proceed any further
- if you click Proceed when there are read-only files, a prompt will show to allow MB to update the files. If you choose no, the function will not proceed any further
- when saving files, if any file save error occurs eg. file is locked by another application, a dialog box will show details of the file(s) not saved

For the tag editor only, currently MB compares the cached file modification date with the actual file modification time and shows an alert to rescan the file if MB's version is out of date. That doesnt work so well with files saved on (linux?) servers.
The latest version still compares the dates but when different now compares the file data with the cached data and only shows the alert if any fields are different in value. Those different values are displayed in the tag editor as field modifications but you still need to click save for MB's cached version to be updated.

MusicBee Wishlist / Add to Playlist enhancement
« on: December 23, 2020, 09:21:25 AM »
The "Add to Playlist" command (right click on a file) has been enhanced to show a tick when the selected file(s) are in a playlist.
When used with multiple files selected, if only some of the files are in a playlist, and indeterminate tick displays. If all the files are in a playlist, a normal tick displays
unzip and replace the existing musicbee application files

Plugins / Game Bar Widget
« on: October 17, 2020, 06:19:04 AM »
A widget for controlling MusicBee via the XBOX Game Bar (which despite its name, runs on your desktop PC). For those of you not familiar, just press Win G to open the game bar and when installed, the MusicBee widget will be available to add to the game bar, and also available to be pinned so its always open.

Unfortunately its not straight-forward to install and you need to follow these instructions very carefully
- unzip to a folder eg. the MusicBee\Plugins folder, but it can be anywhere

Install the MusicBee plugin certificate - this only needs to be done once.
- These instructions apply to Windows10 20H1 or above. In older windows 10 versions, you need to enable developer mode
1. in Windows Explorer, open the root folder where you installed the plugin
2. and double click on: "MusicBeeXBoxWidget_1.4.0.0_x86.cer"
3. click the "Install Certificate" button
4. select "Local Machine" and click "Next". Click OK to confirm the UAC dialog.
5. select "Place all certificates in the following store"
6. and click the "Browse..." button
7. select "Trusted People" and click OK   (not Trusted Publishers!)
8. click "Finish"

To install the widget (you must already have installed the certificate exactly as described above):
- in the root folder you installed the plugin
- double click on "MusicBeeXBoxWidget_1.4.0.0_x86.msixbundle" and click "Install"
- in MusicBee, enable the CD Art-Display plugin in Preferences/ Plugins
- thats it - if you press Win G, MusicBee Game Bar widget should be available for pinning and adding to the game bar menu

The widget will work with older MusicBee versions but for artwork to display you need v3.5 from the downloads page

General Discussions / Advance notice of website expected downtime
« on: June 03, 2020, 10:30:23 AM »
Unfortunately, once again my web host is migrating the site to a new server and hence that will mean a period of time where new forum posts will be lost during the data transfer and possibly a period of time where the website wont be accessible. Very annoying and also very stressful for me!

It should be happening next Monday Eastern Australia time but I will confirm closer to the time.
