TheaterMode / Re: background pictures in theatre mode
« on: May 13, 2016, 12:55:47 PM »
OK, but is there any way to use the Internet one's where available, but a local one when it doesn't find an Internet one?

That's the default behavior. Theater Mode gallery works the same way as compact player or artist picture panel. Try with compact player as it offers some settings.

That isn't what's happening though. On this Theater Mode (Artist Pictures) if it finds the artist image on the internet it uses it and slideshows between various images it finds while the track is playing, which is nice. If it doesn't find an internet picture it defaults to the background image (which I've worked out how to change), not the artist image I've saved in the artist folder.

This is the element code for the gallery:
<element type="Gallery" x="1" y="1" widthDock="Panel" width="-2" heightDock="Panel" height="-2" aspectRatio="zoomKeep" interval="60" tags="artist" ></element>

That changes the artist image in the main player, but it doesn't change what I see in the theater mode, "Artist Pictures"

Questions / Artist images

Dunno if I've missed something obvious here...

I using 3.0, normally in theater mode in the "artists pictures" option.

I've been pleasantly surprised by some of the obscure artists it HAS found, but some of my collection is too obscure/local for it to find anything and I really don't like the placeholder image of the single flower in the vase....

Is there any way to manually add images of artists it can't find? If not is there an easy way to change the placeholder image?

OK, after manually fixing tags on an external disc. I deleted the old files, turned of WMP put the new files back on the main drive, downloaded the new MusicBee and gave it a go.

I'm very impressed, all the albums are correct, and I love the theater mode. Makes WMP look about 20 years old by comparison.

I left in overnight to analyse the volumes (I've got several thousand music files and an old slow laptop that needs replacing), and the auto-levelling works brilliantly.

Very very impressed, most settings are fairly intuitive compared to other payers as well.. Don't know why I took so long to make the switch.

The "inbox" feature is a real deal clincher for someone as anally retentive as me about getting tags etc right.

Questions / Re: ripping European CDs

There have been all sorts of weird copy protections trialled in the past. I used to have a hifi CDR and around the mid to late 2000s I had serious problems copying some tacks even on there, digital copying just didn't work and I had to play them and record them though the audio inputs. The same sort of thing may be happening here.

Sorry to not be more useful but if that is the case I don't know any workaround except manually recording them through an audio input.

Questions / Re: New to Music Bee

That's everybody that's incredibly helpful.

I think I'll leave the standard tag as the album release date then and create a custom tag for track release date.

I like how customisable this is.

Thanks for the link regarding images as well. One of the jobs I'm doing in mp3tag atm is embedding all the images. I think I'll just lose the jpegs once I've done that.

Questions / New to Music Bee
« on: May 08, 2016, 01:01:26 PM »
Hi, I'm new to Music Bee, I found it looking for an alternative to the terrible Windows Media Player that I've just been using as the path of least resistance, however, it's constant munging of file tags and refusal to allow things the way I want them (mainly by redownloading wrong information and replacing my edits with it even though I've unchecked every box to do with downloading info the Internet).

So far I've played around with MusicBee using my old lobrary and I like what I see. I'm currently manually repairing all the tags on my music using mp3tag (a long job, there's about 8000 files), once that's done I'm getting rid of WMP altogether and using the corrected files with Music Bee. I have a few questions, apologies if some of these seem obvious to people who haven't recently used the piece of crap that is WMP. I'm 99% certain MusicBee is for me, but I just want to check a few points, I am a bit anal about my music!

1) If I edit fields in Music Bee, odes it edit the tag on the original file? (I hope it does).
2) Cover artwork. WMP doesn't bother to embed it in the file (OK, sometimes it does, seemingly at random) but instead creates irritating hidden jpg files all over the place. Am I correct in assuming that Music Bee uses the one embedded in the file?
3) For historical reasons (that I;m in the process of correcting) my music is a mixture of mpg, wma and wav files. the latest Mp3Tag can tag all of these, does MusicBee recognise tags in all of these (I know some players struggle with tags in wav files)?
4) I have a lot of compilations, WMP only recognises a date for a whole album, how will MusicBee cope if individual tracks on a compilation have different values entered on the Year tag?
5) I notice that version 3.0 is out. The version I've downloaded is 2.5. Would I be better off upgrading to 3.0 before I set up the libraries etc?

Just for feedback purposes one of the things that strongly attracts me to MusicBee is the Inbox feature. I emigrated a few years back and my record collection is currently in transit as I've finally decided to ship it. I will be digitising an extensive amount of music (from vinyl, cassette, VHS and CD) and I get the feeling being able to inbox things as I go will be incredibly useful.

I also like the look of these forums and look forward to becoming an active member of the community.
