If the thumbnail viewer is ticked in the left panel, maybe the problem is that the panel is hide, or maybe it's the way you've stacked the thumbnail browser.

« on: April 08, 2018, 07:23:45 PM »i am not comitting either way as to whether this request will be implemented but one thing i have thought about for some time is no longer splitting <artist> into the individual artists/ performers when "split multi-value tags into rows" is enabled.
If you have the split option enabled, the field would be upgraded to <artists: artist> which would continue to split the field into the individual artists but if set the field to <artist> MB will show the display artist irrespective of whether the split option is enabled or not.
I am guessing that will suffice for the original request anyway
Now that we have a second Track Info Panel, for me is enough.

I need this setting enabled to make one of my fields display correctly. However, when it's enabled it also makes the <artist> tag display not only the main artist but also the performers in their own row beneath the main artist, something I don't have any use for.+1

I like the idea of displaying the artwork along with what I consider to be primary information (album, artist, title) without having to switch tabs or scroll through a lot of info... Having a second information panel dedicated to secondary information (such as performers and their role, lyricist and composers) would therefore be the optimal solution to my problem.+1 for a new tab (in my case for Album review / comments).
As I've posted in a related topic (https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=24680.msg142236#msg142236), something like this was proposed and accepted some time ago (https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=15885.msg93790;topicseen#msg93790) but, as far I know, not implemented.

An option to select if you want to show Artists:Artist or/and Artist:Perfomers would be great.
I've tried with this, and works, but with a custom tag there's no artist picture (just album cover).
This is the option that I'm using from long ago (with the Album Artist tag), but is not perfect.
I give an example: In the Album "Duke Ellington & John Coltrane" there's two main Album Artist, so I've tagged it this way (Duke Ellington; John Coltrane in the Album Artist tag).
When you filter the thumbnail browser by letter D, the Album is shown twice, one for Duke Ellington and one for John Coltrane. The same with letter J.
I've tried too with the Artist tag, with the same behaivour.
Hence, besides my +1 for the initial wish, I think that the thumbnail browser need it's own AZ jump bar to work better.
An option to select if you want to show Artists:Artist or/and Artist:Perfomers would be great.
You could use the Additional Tagging Tools plugin from the add-ons section to copy Artists: Artist and Artists: Guest Artist or Artist (Displayed) to a custom tag and then display by the custom tag.

Or for something that is continuous, a virtual tag that just pulls the first artist from the list of artists and display by that virtual tag. Come to think of it, that's probably the better option.
