v3.0.5918 (and 5915)

Here's the situation: I'm playing a FLAC (or MP3) file with a CUE sheet. At every track change (within the sheet) there's about a 15% chance MB will hang. I have to restart MB at that point. It's a "random" event i.e. if I try the same track change (where previously a hang occurred) there's a good chance it just plays fine the next time.

!!! EDIT: I've done some extensive testing and this bug does NOT occur with APE. Only with FLAC and MP3 (other formats not tested). And I'm using the same but converted files and slightly edited CUE sheets (flac > ape). Weird, isn't it?
Here's the CUE sheet I'm experiencing those problems with at this moment (but only with FLAC and MP3 like I wrote): and here's the error log:

Here's another one:

Questions / Re: A-Z Jump Bar

Did you download this version: and do you start MB with (a shortcut to) the MusicBee3.exe file?

Could it be because you have your albums sorted by year so (almost) all letters of the alphabet are already in view (so there's nothing to jump to)? What happens if you sort your albums in the main panel alphabetically and try again? The idea is it should "jump" to the first album starting with the letter you clicked on (bring it in view at the top of the page).

(I don't use the feature and I use a totally different layout so I'm just guessing here).

MusicBee Wishlist / Collapse tree
« on: March 13, 2016, 09:31:40 PM »
I know this had been asked before  acouple of times but that was way back in 2012 and 2013...

Anyway: what I'm still missing is a way to collapse the tree(s) in the left panel with one click (e.g. via context menu). I already wrote an autohotkey script to do this and it works actually quite nice (although it takes half a minute or so) but not everyone uses AHK and a buil in function would be a nice addition I think.

Hi Steven,

Just want to say thanks for listening! I discovered you implemented this silently.
This made it possible for me to write myself a nice little autohotkey script for closing all unpinned tabs :-)

Thanks a lot Steven. Feeling safe again :-)

Bug Reports / Re: Can't Rip CD's

Hi Kazooba,

Welcome to the forums. I have no idea if this is going to solve your problem but 5909 is an older version.
Please try v3.0.5914 first:

Questions / Re: MusicBee panels Configuration
« on: March 12, 2016, 10:20:54 AM »
IMO the numbers are not needed because Steven already provided the icons at the left side of the Panel Configuration dialog with an overview of all the different panels and bars.

Ofcourse it would be nice to see the changes right away but I think it's best to post that in the wish list. (although I don't think Steven will implement this because the GUI changes are more or less finished; please correct me if I'm wrong).

This bug is present in the last few versions. I just discovered one of my folders was moved somewhere else. I must have accidentally moved it but I always have "Allow folders to be moved" unchecked.

It appears folders now can be moved always despite the setting "Allow folders to be moved" being unchecked. Quite a dangerous bug.
On a sidenote: isn't it possible to create a confirmation dialog for moving folders (with a setting to disable/enable it in Prefs)? I mean: it's great we can move folders but it's too dangerous to enable it without a confirmation dialog.

In addition to psychoadepts' reply I have another tip to prevent this kind of hassle in the future.

I would strongly advise everyone to use a portable version of MB and once in a while simply make a backup of it (even make several backup versions). It's just a matter of copy and paste and within seconds you have your backup. Problems? Just delete MB and revert to (one of) your backup version(s). Simple as that.

90% of my software is portable and it makes your (digital) life sooo much easier. Problems with your software? No problem, revert to an older version. New Windows or new PC? No need to re-install your software and/or create all the settings for it from scratch. With so much disk space these days there's really no excuse to not use portable software and make regular and multiple backups.

I wonder what others (and Steven himself ofcourse) think of pinned tabs and closing protection (not being able to close a tab before it's unpinned again).

At the moment it's very easy to accidentally close pinned tabs with the hotkey (I use mouse gestures myself instead of hotkeys). I know the close button *does* disappear but there's still the hotkey which does exactly the same as the close button. Therefore I think it would be more logical if the hotkey also would be disabled for pinned tabs.

Any thoughts?

Thanks Steven. I think I know what you mean by "handling". It's sort of a trick isn't it? It wasn't really a bug but more like a limitation I guess (it's standard behavior in most programs). The handling isn't fluent now but after some practice ;-) it's usable and that's enough for me. In the Netherlands we have a saying: "Je moet een gegeven paard niet in de bek kijken". Haha!

In short: thanks again! :-)

I don't like bumping my own topic but I'm still curious about this. Anyone having any thoughts about this?

Hi Steven,

It just occurred to me that when selecting multiple files by dragging over them in the main panel, the page doesn't scroll if you reach the page boundaries (to extend the selection).

MusicBee Wishlist / Saving stereo balance together with EQ preset
« on: March 09, 2016, 10:36:08 AM »
Hi Steven,

I have the feeling this will not be a "most wanted" request :-) but I would very much like to see the stereo balance being saved together with the EQ preset.
