Questions / Media Type tag replaced with SOURCE MEDIA for flac files
« on: January 30, 2021, 12:26:09 PM »
I started using the custom "Media Type" tag recently and noticed MB writes these tags differently for flac/vorbis than other applications do:

Both MusicBee and MP3Tag write "File Type" as TFLT for mp3/ID3,  BUT... for flac/vorbis Musicbee writes MEDIATYPE and not FILETYPE (MP3Tag)

Both MusicBee and MP3Tag write "Media Type" as TMED for mp3/ID3, BUT... for flac/vorbis Musicbee writes SOURCE MEDIA and not MEDIATYPE (MP3Tag)

Is this a bug? If not, this means I have to use 2 different custom tags for the same field: "Media Type" for mp3 and "File Type" for flac. It seems odd that MB would write "File Type" tags as MEDIATYPE when a "Media Type" tag also exists. I think "File Type" should be written as FILETYPE and "Media Type" as MEDIATYPE, No?

TY

Questions / Re: Splitting FLAC file using format converter
« on: June 01, 2017, 07:12:41 PM »
Investigated further and it turns out that the files import/play fine if they are moved to a different location/folder. I tried multiple times and always had the same issue. After splitting the single flac to multiple files using the file converter, MB will not accept the newly created files if I try to play/import them from the same location they were just created. If they are moved everything works fine.

A bit confusing, but it does work.

This may not be a "bug", as it's not a new issue.

Here is the ALAC file which has been encoded from a FLAC using another program. (The bitrate displays correctly at around 700k):

Here is the same file re-encoded using the MB format converter. (Any ALAC file encoded using MB will always display a bitrate of 1411k):

In Windows FileExplorer, the bitrate for BOTH files are displayed correctly. (The MB-encoded file is only displayed incorrectly from within MB):

Questions / Splitting FLAC file using format converter
« on: June 01, 2017, 02:41:22 PM »
I have some single FLACS that I need to convert so I can place them on an ipod. I have successfully split a single FLAC file into multiple tracks using the MB format converter. However, these newly created files can't be imported, or even played in MB. Is this normal? It's odd that these newly created FLAC files, which MB created, play perfectly fine in another player (MPC-HC).

Thanks, that must be it. Is it possible to convert to 24-bit ALAC?

Does anyone know why converting a FLAC file to ALAC/.m4a creates a file that is half the size? ALAC should be lossless but it would appear that some quality is being lost, no?

Questions / Ejecting iPod auto opens a new active "music" tab
« on: March 31, 2017, 01:51:08 PM »
Does anyone know of a way to prevent this? Every time I 'safely remove' my ipod (within MB) a new active "music" tab is created, which I then have to close.

A partial solution is to create a new pinned "iPod" tab with navigation lock disabled. If this tab is active when the ipod is ejected, a new tab will not be opened, but the node then changes to "Music". Unfortunately when I next connect the iPod (and select it using toolbar or navigation panel) MB creates a new tab again rather than using the pinned tab.

Ideally I could pin a tab which MB could recognize as being for my device, but I'd be happy if I could simply connect/eject an iPod without new active tabs being created. Possible?

Questions / Re: Musicbee deletes Folder.jpg files
« on: February 23, 2017, 05:27:50 PM »
So it appears that the bottom artwork refers to the folder.jpg. WHY IS IT BEING DISPLAYED HERE IF I ONLY HAVE EMBEDDED ART SELECTED IN THE PREFERENCES?

If I check the bottom box, MB auto checks both top/bottoms boxes. With the boxes checked, MB no longer deletes the files. So I'm guessing there is a problem with how MB is importing the artwork to begin with.
So the only way I can prevent the deleting is to check the boxes every time I want to make a change? That makes no sense.

Why is the folder.jpg displayed in the editor?
Why are the boxes unchecked?
Why do I get no prompt for the deletion of the file?

No errors in the log. I really dont think this is a windows issue. There is no prompt, file just gets deleted. What about the other behavior I posted about (wrong pictures being imported)? why does MB display 2 pictures in the tag editor after importing the files?

You mean windows error/event log? i didn't find anything in there. Cover.jpg stays in the folder no problem. So does folder.png. Only the folder.jpg gets deleted, and only if changes are made to the entire album.

Current settings (only display embedded artwork):

This shows the embedded art for these 4 files:

There is also a folder.jpg in the folder which is different from the embedded art:

After importing the 4 tracks to MB, only the folder.jpg is shown, the embedd art is not displayed at all. This is the opposite behavior from the settings:

I'm confused by MB behavior when adding files to the library. In this example, I added 5 files from 1 album to the library. Each file has the same embedded album cover, There is also a folder.jpg in the album folder, which I have not selected/added to the library. It is a different picture.

Now in MB you can see that the folder.jpg has been automatically added. Why is this happening? Could this be related to the deleting behavior?

Now if I make a change to the tags (in this case the genre) for those 5 files, the folder.jpg is deleted.

I have tried removing the folder entries in the preferences.

Still same problem. Also, this doesn't happen to every album and I cant figure out why it does for some and not others. Can anyone think of why MB would be removing these files from my drive?
