Questions / variable bitrate in filter/search
« on: March 25, 2023, 11:37:16 AM »

I'm trying to list my low-quality constant bitrate files lower than 320k, but do not want to list variable bitrate files.
Is it possible to filter/search by whether a file has a variable bitrate or not?

Questions / Replacing albums: workflow & tools
« on: March 25, 2023, 10:09:12 AM »
I searched for this, but didn't see anything. Apologies if it is a common question.

Is there a best workflow for replacing an existing whole album in my library with new files, transferring all the existing tags and artwork to the new files, and deleting the old album?

The two variations of this task are:
1) replacing the album with the same filetype (Eg. mp3).
2) replacing the album with a different filetype (Eg. mp3 > Flac).

MusicBee Wishlist / New Action: Toggle 'Prune played tracks' [solved]
« on: March 21, 2020, 12:18:48 PM »
EDIT: Solved by using the 'upcoming tracks' setting instead of the 'prune' feature.

Might it be possible to have the 'prune played tracks: keep the last X tracks' setting which in the Now Playing Preferences, added as an action so it can be assigned a hot key and added as a toolbar button?

Usually I have it on all the time when playing music. But when I am auditioning and adding a bunch of new albums, or doing some album editing, it has to be turned off so that tracks don't disappear after playing parts of them.

It's no real problem going into preferences, but it would be nicer to have a hotkey, and it seems like it would be a quick, easy job. :)

I don't know how many users would find it useful, and I understand you might not want to make the actions list too long. So alternatively, a toggle option might be added to the Header Menu above the playing tracks pane instead?

Thanks for this consideration.

Questions / No 'use system playback device' setting? [solved]
« on: July 30, 2019, 09:27:43 PM »
In preferences > player > sound device > audio player > output, anyone know the reason why you have to specify a device?

I have recently starting changing between ASIO and WASAPI quite often, and would like MB just to play through whatever I have selected in Windows. If that's not possible, then is there an easy way to cycle through devices? I couldn't see anything in the hotkey section.

MusicBee Wishlist / Custom-order the Filter List
« on: July 25, 2019, 06:57:40 PM »
I don't know whether this is a bigger job than I imagine, or whether many people would even appreciate it...

My filter list has to have a number prefix in-front of each one, so that the appear in the order I want.

It looks kind of dweebly, and the numbers also appear in the tabs, which is kind of fuggly.

It would be cool to be able to reorder them by drag and drop (or other means), and be able to delete the numbers.

Not a big deal by any means, though.

Can anyone explain to me why the File Organiser tool and the Auto Organise settings have the 'on drive' parameter?

For instance:
· If I have new files in C:\Downloads.
· They're loaded into the Now Playing List, and I've just edited the tags.
· Now I right-click them --> Send to library.

If I have a rule defined for C:\ then they'll get moved to D:\Music and renamed. Perfect.

Now imagine the same thing, but the new files are now on F:\Downloaded
When I send them to the library, they'll be added, but they won't be moved or renamed.
Unless I set up an rule for the F drive.

I'd basically like all files to be moved and renamed whenever I 'send to library', no matter what partition or disk they're on.
I don't understand why the 'on drive' parameter even exists, except for maybe as a safety mechanism?

Questions / Drag from desktop to Now Playing?
« on: July 21, 2019, 12:48:52 PM »
Silly question, but I can't find the answer.

In Win7 I used to be able to drag music files from Explorer/desktop to the Now Playing panel.

Now I've installed Win10 and reinstalled Musicbee, and I can't drag stuff into the NPL.

Is it Win10? A change in a newer version of MB? Is it in a Musicbee setting now (I can't see it)?

By the the way, when I installed Win10 and knew I was going to do a fresh install of Musicbee, I took the opportunity to research other players to see if anything had changed in the music player landscape in the last few years. That lasted all of 15 minutes, because it was clear that Musicbee had not been eclipsed in any way by any other software. Time for another donation, I think!  ::)

Questions / Musicbee 3: Thank you
« on: January 24, 2016, 03:26:53 PM »

Just a quick thank you to Steven and all the users who have committed time, thought and effort into MB3.
I was a little worried that I would have to stay with v2.5 with all the impending GUI changes, but MB3 is looking great so far.

Awesome job Steven. The best music player stays on top!

Questions / Search for embedded artwork filetype
« on: November 04, 2015, 03:49:54 PM »

I didn't pay any attention whether the files were jpg or png when embedding artwork into my library.
Now I've discovered that my mp3 player does not display png artwork.

I'd like to identify all the files in my library which have png embedded, so I can embed jpg instead.
Is that possible in Musicbee? Maybe a 3rd party tool?

Also, now I can't easily use Musicbee's 'search for picture on internet' feature, because until it's
actually embedded, there isn't a way to opt between jpg or png. Any solution for that?

Questions / Starting equaliser crashes MB 50% of the time
« on: July 15, 2015, 10:15:54 PM »
Much of the time when I attempt to bring up the equaliser dialogue box, Musicbee stops responding.
It seemed to have started occasionally a few versions back, in 2013 or 2014, but now it's happening
about 50% of the time. I've got no idea what might be triggering the error.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any idea what the conflict might be and how to start troubleshooting?

Questions / 'tick' column has changed usage
« on: January 02, 2015, 03:33:21 PM »

I used to use the tick column for selecting/deselecting tacks when editing tags and suchlike.
In the version I just upgraded to, I noticed everything was ticked.
When deselecting a track, there was a warning about unticked tracks being excluded from playing and syncing.
I've been using the 'ban' flag for that sort of thing (in the 'love' column).

What's the case usage now of the tick column?
Does it differ in any way from what the 'ban' flag does?

Beyond MusicBee / How do you get new album alerts?
« on: January 02, 2015, 11:11:37 AM »

I've just realised that I missed 3 important album releases this year. has been down for months. is very limited.
Google Alerts isn't specific enough.

How do you do it? Especially if the bands are not mainstream?

Beyond MusicBee / USB DACs: DragonFly versus AudioEngine
« on: August 17, 2014, 01:19:21 AM »
Currently using the Realtek soundchip and jack on my laptop. Thinking about buying one of these:

Anyone with DAC experience got an opinion on which one would be best?

Questions / History node - configure?
« on: August 15, 2014, 12:53:57 PM »

I don't usually have the History node displayed, but I just noticed that it records a link to soundcloud/jamendo tracks.
A 'recently played' auto-playlist will only display local files, so the History has useful information in it.

However, I don't like that it goes back for years.
Is there a way to configure the history node so it limits the time-span to six months (or a certain number of records)?

There is also a load of tracks listed at the bottom with an 'unknown' played date.
Is there any way to clean that up, or will they be listed there for good?

MusicBee Wishlist / A quick way to clear the 'specific fields' in search
« on: August 15, 2014, 01:33:42 AM »

Could we have a quick way to clear the selection of 'specific fields' in the search?
It seems that the only way to do it at the moment is to deselect each field individually.
