Questions / Re: Workflow for reconciling re-ripped tracks
« on: April 01, 2023, 11:12:51 AM »
I don't know if I understand your problem, which seems to be that you add the new album whilst the old one is still in your library, so they get merged if certain tags/paths are the same?

I...
· Download/rip albums to a set folder so I can view them in the 'computer' node in Musicbee.
· In the library, I find the album to be replaced and use 'Additional Tagging and Reporting tools' plugin to copy the existing tags to clipboard (including embedded album art).
· Delete the album with del > 'remove from database and computer'. It goes to recycle in case I need to retrieve it.
· Go to the computer node and paste all the tags into the replacement album (the track listing needs to be identical to the old album).
· Send to library (auto-organise set-up in library preferences).

Thank you. I thought I remembered from years ago that there was a way to do this natively in MusicBee.
But the plugin works very well.
Cheers.

Questions / variable bitrate in filter/search
« on: March 25, 2023, 11:37:16 AM »

I'm trying to list my low-quality constant bitrate files lower than 320k, but do not want to list variable bitrate files.
Is it possible to filter/search by whether a file has a variable bitrate or not?

Thanks.

Questions / Replacing albums: workflow & tools
« on: March 25, 2023, 10:09:12 AM »
I searched for this, but didn't see anything. Apologies if it is a common question.

Is there a best workflow for replacing an existing whole album in my library with new files, transferring all the existing tags and artwork to the new files, and deleting the old album?

The two variations of this task are:
1) replacing the album with the same filetype (Eg. mp3).
2) replacing the album with a different filetype (Eg. mp3 > Flac).

Thanks.

Portable Devices / Re: Wifi android device synching
« on: April 11, 2020, 03:57:33 AM »
Just a thank you. This is great.

Is the 'full sync' or 'playlist sync' setting supposed to be remembered, though? It defaults to full sync every time I open the app, even though I would never want to full sync (because my Musicbee library is way bigger than my SD Card, and it would take 12 hours to copy to the phone).

MusicBee Wishlist / New Action: Toggle 'Prune played tracks' [solved]
« on: March 21, 2020, 12:18:48 PM »
EDIT: Solved by using the 'upcoming tracks' setting instead of the 'prune' feature.

Might it be possible to have the 'prune played tracks: keep the last X tracks' setting which in the Now Playing Preferences, added as an action so it can be assigned a hot key and added as a toolbar button?

Usually I have it on all the time when playing music. But when I am auditioning and adding a bunch of new albums, or doing some album editing, it has to be turned off so that tracks don't disappear after playing parts of them.

It's no real problem going into preferences, but it would be nicer to have a hotkey, and it seems like it would be a quick, easy job. :)

I don't know how many users would find it useful, and I understand you might not want to make the actions list too long. So alternatively, a toggle option might be added to the Header Menu above the playing tracks pane instead?

Thanks for this consideration.

Questions / Re: No 'use system playback device' setting? [solved]

I only need ASIO for lower latency when recording vocals and guitar - not to do with the quality so much.

I switch off the interface when I'm not going to record for a couple of days or more. When I switch it off and change the default playback to WASAPI, I want all my software to use it without me having to go into each program's settings.

Sorry for not explaining myself properly.

In Musicbee, I saw the outputs:

Directsound
WASAPI
ASIO

I was looking in that list for an option for Musicbee just to play through whatever default playback device was set in Windows, whether it be my RealTek mobo chip, Dragonfly usb DAC, or my instrument interface (with its own ASIO driver), rather than choose one specific output.

I thought that if I chose Directsound or WASAPI, MBee would only output to my Realtek and Dragonfly. So every time I disconnected my instrument interface, I would have to go into MBee settings and manually change it from ASIO to WASAPI.

However, as Steven said, if I choose WASAPI -> Primary Sound Driver, then MBee will use whatever playback output is currently set in windows, including the ASIO driver.

Thanks Steven. That's what I was looking for!

Questions / No 'use system playback device' setting? [solved]

In preferences > player > sound device > audio player > output, anyone know the reason why you have to specify a device?

I have recently starting changing between ASIO and WASAPI quite often, and would like MB just to play through whatever I have selected in Windows. If that's not possible, then is there an easy way to cycle through devices? I couldn't see anything in the hotkey section.

Thanks.

When you switch to a different 'node' (ie. music or playlist are two nodes), each node has it's own view set.

So your music node might display the 'album and tracks' view and your playlist node might display your 'album covers' view.

The sidebar is probably disappearing because the view you use for the music node has it set to hidden.

Try: select music node -> click 'album and tracks' at the top (or whatever view you're using) -> customise panel

At the bottom you will either see 'panel layout overrides' or 'click to set overrides for the configured musicbee layout'

In that section, see if the checkbox for 'hide right sidebar' is ticked. Unticking it will solve your problem.

If it is not set, then the problem is somewhere deeper.

[EDIT] I just noticed that there is also an over-ride for each tab too:
Hamburger menu (usually far upper-left) -> Arrange Panels -> 'Overrides for the current MusicBee tab' (bottom)

OK, this thread seems to explain the historical development of the disk mapping.

It's quite a complicated thread to follow, but from what I understand, before v2.4 MusicBee would only organise music if it was on the same partition as the MB database and media library, and it would not move files between different drives/partitions at that point. So the drive mapping was the response to that particular problem.

I still don't quite understand why it was done like this though (ie. having to set a rule for every drive/partition before you can use organisation freely).

I can see why it is handy to be able to have different rules for different partitions as a choice if you want to set that up. But if you only have one central location where all your music ends up, but several locations where new music may land in your system/network, ready to be tagged and moved, then it seems unnecessary to have to add rules for all those locations, rather than have one rule for all locations that says 'wherever a file is right now, when I add it to my database, rename it and move it to the media library'.

Maybe it was a programming/time limitation, safety feature, or because it simply solved the problem at the time. I searched around, and couldn't find many users commenting about it, so I guess it's not important. The main thing is that I understand I'm using MusicBee correctly.

It did nearly catch me out though, as I didn't know that the music I had just 'sent to library' hadn't been organised - all the files that I'd added to the database were still sitting in the download location, and I would've deleted the folders thinking they were now empty. I only noticed they had not been moved or renamed because I absentmindedly opened one of the folders.

Cheers.

Questions / Re: Click on an album with the mouse wheel
« on: July 25, 2019, 08:18:07 PM »
Middle mouse actually performs a 'quick search', using the field or item you clicked on as the search parameter.

So in your screenshot, if you clicked on '2008' instead, then all tracks in your library from 2008 would be listed.

You can see this in your left side-panel - the 'Search Results' node is highlighted after the middle mouse click.

So your question is, can we open search results in a new tab with a key combination?

The current answer is no, I don't think so (but there is a wish-list forum).

However, if your tab's 'navigation lock' was set to 'full lock', then the search results would open in a new tab, I think.

> Because some of us might not want things to work the same way you want them to work

>> Can anyone explain to me why the File Organiser tool and the Auto Organise settings have the 'on drive' parameter?

What I'm saying is that I can't think of the usage case for it. What's it used for? Why does it exist?

Then maybe I can understand why I can't go to any partition and use 'send to library' without setting up the drive first. I've used MB for years, but with only one partition. Now I've got four fixed disk letters, plus a couple of network locations, from which to send files to my library. Then there are drive letters for tablets and flash drives too. I'm just trying to understand how it is supposed to work and whether I'm doing it right.

Thanks.
