Questions / Re: Controlling musicbee over local network?
« on: June 08, 2023, 07:51:55 PM »
I'm open to correction but I think some people put their music somewhere static on the network and then put the portable version of the MusicBee app on a USB stick and then move the USB stick from computer to computer.  The limitation is that you can only use one instance of MB at a time or you risk corrupting the database.  AIUI, it's a little bit more complicated than that but that's the gist of it.

I find the 'iTunes Store' option (under Tags(2)/autotagging) very good at finding 1200px covers for the music I like.  Maybe make that #1 when searching and see if it helps?  There's a filter option as well to reduce the sizes but I don't use it.

Have you tried Edit --> Preferences --> Sorting/Grouping?

And what do you mean by 'Group'?  If this is something you do in Windows file explorer only, MusicBee might not 'understand' what you mean.  This is some of the FAQ for MB's "Grouping"

Fields in this option group allow to define what set of files MusicBee treats as an album. Your files may be placed in different places on your hard disk, organized or not, and be tagged in different ways, but MusicBee still needs to know in some contexts (fe. grouping by album in Album view of the main panel), what files constitute an album.

Grouping options allow for flexible album definition: your definition of an album can reflect a physical disk, set of disks sold as one item (multi-disc album, box set) etc.

Questions / Re: Editing what to search when looking for artwork

Could you search for the album cover before you alter the album title?

File --> Tools --> Tagging Tools --> Search and Replace

This might do what you want?

Depending on how you've arranged things, you could;
(a) look at the top right and click 'Albums and tracks'
(b) RIGHT-click on one of the tabs like 'Album' or 'Album Artist'.

then choose "Sort by - Album artist / Year / Album " and then "Sort by - Sort Ascending"

There's also a project to install Windows On the Raspberry Pi.  I installed Musicbee on a Win/Pi but never really did anything with it as it was a bit slow and sound output was a bit iffy at the time.  Must dig it out someday now that you've rekindled the memory.

The 8Gb Pi4 is probably the model to aim for.

If you're looking for separate address and search bars, it may not be possible.

Questions / Re: How on earth was this achieved??

My guess...
Nested folders are available in the Playlist section so he set up basic playlists called Rock, Pop etc.
Then he went to his genre browser and right-clicked Rock, Pop etc and sent them to the relevant basic playlist.

Questions / Re: Remove my library from all resident files on the NAS
« on: July 12, 2021, 07:05:43 PM »
If I understand you correctly, you have one library with 32,000 music files.  16,000 are 'real' and are stored locally.   You want to get rid of the second duplicte 16,000 entries from your library.

Select all files (shortcut ctrl-a), right click, choose Send To/File Rescan.

From memory so be careful, Musicbee will report something like it cannot find 16,000 files and should it delete them or not.  Choose the delete from library option and not delete from computer in case you actually delete the 'real' files!

Maybe you could use the 'ctrl' button and selectively choose genres from the left window.  Then choose shuffle and play?

Listening to Etta James ("The Essential" CD).  Knew who she was but not her music.  Very impressed so far.

'Love Don't Work This Way' - The Househouse Flowers
First heard this in a teenage disco held in a school gym hall & danced like I was possessed.  This song made me realise there's more to music than just 'Pop'

'Say What You Want' - Texas f. Wu-Tang Clan
Sometimes 2 + 2 = 5.   Don't get boxed in with genres.  I don't particularly like either band but they made a great song when they collaborated.  Other examples of people crossing boundaries might include Jah Wobble, Sinead O'Connor and Onra.

'Köln, January 24, 1975, Part I' - Keith Jarrett
A few years ago, I was getting a bit jaded with the music I was hearing.  Then this album!  One man and a piano totally dominated the listening space for an hour.  Total immersive experience.  You can hear his fingers working the keys, working the foot pedals and breathing through his nose.  Incredible.

It helps me to keep a rough playcount on what music I play.  The playcount of songs played on my phone or Kodi (TV) get 'routed' through lastfm back to MusicBee.  It's not 100% accurate but near enough.
