Questions / Re: MusicBee for Linux (ubuntu)
« on: January 22, 2021, 08:02:18 PM »
For me, I gave up on trying to get MB to run under Wine. I tried many different things but somehow MB was never happy with DotNet. I have since gotten rid of Wine and the various MS apps; dumping MS is why I switched to linux in the first place.

Since then I've tried many different music libraries running on Mint. The one that came closest to giving me what MB gave me on Windows is "gmusicbrowser". After going through the learning curve I'm basically happy now and don't miss MB anymore.

I'm researching moving to Linux Mint and have read through the various threads about running MusicBee on Linux. Back at the end of January, Wine 5.0 was released. From what I've read about the changes in Wine, it seems like it should be easier to run MusicBee on Linux. Does anyone have experience installing MusicBee under Wine 5.0 yet?

Any tips you'd like to share, for a Mint newbee, trying to get MusicBee running would also be appreciated - thanks....

Two additional data points:

I tried doing a search, as soon as I started typing MB terminated. It is as if this install could not handle looking at storage except through Auto DJ. My data files are stored on an external USB drive (which works fine under 2.5).

I downloaded the last 2.5 version. I was able to install MB with no issues.

That's what I was afraid of. I do feel better that it wasn't some stupid user error. ;-)

Thanks for your time. I'll try again with the next RC. Thanks again....

Renamed the files - same issue. So not a configuration problem I guess. Not sure if it is related but after the install MB went back to a default skin; which I haven't changed.

Update: renamed the plugins folder - no impact.

btw - I have rebooted Windows on the chance that would help(before I reported the problem) - it didn't. I have also ran my registry cleaner but that also didn't change anything.

The first download was from my update alert service. The second time I came to the forum to make sure I had the latest.

Thanks for giving my problem some thought... I know this must be weird since no one else is reporting this kind of issue. Everything was working fine under 2.5. I'm guessing the solution is to roll back to the prior version.

I was just looking through the log. The newest entries are from a couple of weeks ago (related to coping files to an iPod. So, despite all the sudden exits (which likely don't give time to post a log entry) and the MusicBee has stopped dialogs  nothing is posted in the error log.

Bug Reports / 3.0 RC2: Very Limited Access to Music
« on: April 22, 2016, 03:10:58 PM »
Just upgraded to MusicBee 3.0.5954 on Windows 7. I can only access music from "Auto DJ". If I click on "Music" or a playlist, MusicBee terminates. If a track is playing and I select "Now Playing", "History" or "Music Explorer" MusicBee terminates. If a track is not playing, I can open those items, in a new tab, but the tab is blank; with the exception of "History", selecting open in a new tab still causes MusicBee to terminate. I can select "Inbox" but the list is empty; which is the correct function because I typically don't move files to the inbox.

I turned off Playlist manager thinking that was why I couldn't access a playlist but no change; MusicBee still terminates when selecting a playlist. Right clicking, a playlist, and selecting "Play Now" freezes the playback and opens a dialog box (MusicBee has stopped working) with the option to close the program.

Right clicking "Music" and selecting "Play library shuffled" or "Open in a new tab" MusicBee terminates. Same result when a track is playing or a track is not playing.

In general, any way I can think of to access a music track outside of "Auto DJ" causes MusicBee to stop and exit me to Windows. I downloaded and installed 3.0RC2 twice to make sure it wasn't a corrupted file issue.

Beyond MusicBee / Re: Software beyond MusicBee

Lot of great tips so far. Here's a few I use that I haven't seen mentioned yet:

PDF Reader: PDF X-Change
Registry Cleaner: Glary Utilities
Antivirus: Microsoft Security Essentials also sometimes use - F-Secure Online Scanner
Firewall: Comodo (has it's own sandboxing feature)
Privacy browser extension: Ghostery (Use it in Opera and Chrome)

Edit - not really sure about that SRWare Iron app. Downloaded it and made the mistake of clicking on the update media player link [seems an obvious bad move, in hindsight, on my part but at the time I thought it was a browser extension]. Found myself trying to get out of installing all kinds of mods to the browser.  Also didn't find it helpful that the browser's blog is in German. The uninstall seems to have worked but it left the shortcuts on my desktop; so buyer beware & YMMV....

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Displaying the equalizer preset value

Had a feeling that might be the case. Thanks for your response.

Would appreciate if a mod would kindly move this to the wishlist thread for me....  :)

MusicBee Wishlist / Displaying the equalizer preset value
« on: June 28, 2013, 06:31:36 PM »
I have been using MB since the beginning of the year. I'm very happy to have been able to move away from iTunes, so thank you very much for that MB!  ;)

I'm looking for a way to display (for example in the main panel or the now playing panel) the value stored in the settings/equalizer preset field.

My primary use for this is to determine that I haven't forgotten to set a value for a given song (without having to use the edit mode to check). It is also nice to see the value when a song is playing to spot if I have fat fingered a wrong preset choice.

I have also found it useful to occasionally sort by this value to insure that I have been consistent or to make a batch setting/edit of the equalizer value.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me....

edit: Not sure it matters in this case but I'm using version - 2.1.4924
