Thanks for the feedback team.

I tend to embed 500x500 album images into each track, which results in the bulk of the processing time. I like having the song and the artwork linked together, and it makes for a very clean file setup (no jpg's).

Performance does improve when tagging locally, on the same hard drive that MB is running on. So it seems like the bottleneck is over the wifi network.

This calls to mind another wifi related issue, which is that MB sometimes has playback issues with large FLAC files over wifi, such as long buffer / start times, and stuttering. Standard 16/44.1 FLAC files don't experience any issues.

There should be plenty of bandwidth on the home wifi, it's a newish netgear router using either wireless N or the latest wireless AC protocol.

Is there a possibility of maybe boosting wifi performance? Any other suggestions?

I Love MusicBee. It's been my exclusive player and organizer for years. My one and only frustration is the time it takes to properly tag my files. I use high-res FLAC files on a NAS drive. It can take 10 or 15 minutes to properly tag an album with embedded album art. My biggest wish for MusicBee would be faster tag processing, or more tagging speed - essentially, a performance boost to tagging and filing.

If you include the time it takes to write the file from my "to be tagged" folder to my MB library folder (both on the same NAS), it takes about 20 minutes per album. It would be so fantastic if we could speed this process up in some way -- and/or enable MusicBee to do these tasks in the background. Currently, I can't do anything else while MusicBee is tagging files or adding files to the library.

If there are other options out there for improving tag and write speed -- i.e. more RAM, faster processor, different system settings -- it would also be much appreciated.

Thank you!

MusicBee Wishlist / multithreading for improved performance
« on: November 12, 2013, 03:07:22 AM »
Hi Steven, I now have more than a terabyte of music operating under musicbee. Love the program, but was wondering if you might be able to allow more tasks to happen in the background. When I embed art, or move a newly tagged album from the inbox to the library, I have to wait for that operation to complete before doing other things in Musicbee. Sometimes the tagging screen remains up, and sometimes the file reorganization process minimizes to a status bar at the bottom -- but in almost every case, I have to wait before doing something else. I would love to be able to process tagging, listening, and moving from one drive to another all at the same time. Might be a tall order but thought I'd put in the request!

FYI, upon installing 2.0.4517, had to go in and unblock theater mode dll's and re-enable the plugin...

That was the right question BeeFanatic, I'd forgotten to go in an enable Theater Mode in preferences. Many thanks!

Hi Steven, I unblocked mb_TheaterModePlugin.dll and mb_TheaterModePlugin.dll.config in windows explorer and restarted MB but still can't see the theater mode option in my view menu...

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: streamlined convert+copy to mp3 ?

Many thanks Boroda, works perfectly! (I had to first select "show all folders" and then found "set as virtual device" under "manage folders" once the drive showed up. I'm up and running, thanks again!)

Hi Steven, I'm trying to do exactly what you addressed in this old thread, copy FLAC files to a USB drive with on-the-fly conversion to MP3 format. However, I am unable to use the Preferences / Devices to set up the drive as a device, and "device" remains greyed-out in the "Send-to" dialogue. Any ideas on this one?

MusicBee Wishlist / ABX Double Blind Listening Test
« on: December 21, 2011, 09:50:02 AM »
Currently I use a utility in Foobar to do double blind listening tests (to compare, for example, standard vs remastered tracks):

Foobar ABX Comparator

Would love to see this functionality in MusicBee!

Could even improve on it, to automatically do a replaygain analysis before setting up the test...

Questions / Re: Replay Gain and Flac + Cue files

Hi Steven, I currently use Medieval CUE Splitter to split FLAC albums into individual tracks. Does MusicBee provide the same functionality, and if so, can you tell me how it's done?

very nice option to link as a library filter!

is there a possibility of linking to allmusicguide as well? i'd love to have the amg artist write-up as an option along with last.fm, wikipedia and youtube; and to have the artist and album fields link to their allmusic entries respectively... just icing on the cake!

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: change back request - don't move non music files
« on: August 04, 2011, 10:44:53 PM »
1.3.4230 works like a charm, music files are moved and all non music files are left behind. Perfect! Love the fact that the "also move remaining non music files" box remembers my preference and remains unticked when organizing the next album.

@Matisse, "move all" or "move no" (non music files & folders) might cover the majority of users when reorganizing, so an additional dialog to "choose files" might be an unnecessary step. For me a 100% music file library is a thing of beauty - I'm lovin' my MB!

NICE!!

Thanks Steven, previously, MusicBee used to leave the non-music files in the old folder. With the latest beta, it drags all the non-music files into the new folder in my MusicBee Library.  I liked the older functionality because when I was done tagging and reorganizing, I just deleted the old folder and any leftover non-music files. Now I have to manually go into the new folder, select all the non music files, and manually delete them. Does that make sense?

Another way to put it would be to simply have MusicBee "only reorganize music files / delete old folder (even if files remain) when reorganization completes"...

[ quick follow up on original request, i've successfully used drag and drop from windows explorer, and i've also set up filtered folders in the computer node: click the new folder in the computer node, the files display in the main panel, i select 'em and choose "send to inbox". the computer node's the way to go, works like a charm. thanks for the tip anti! ]
