Still hoping that the .m3u file browsing feature from the 2.x-series would be returned to the 3.3-series so that I could also enjoy the newer addons and features out there ...

If MusicBee was enhanced with some preview pane it would also take up screen space.
So having to drag/drop to a foobar2000 panel doesn't seem a very valid obstacle to me.
And—unless you had far too much caffeine or other paraphernalia—you wouldn't need to be dragging and dropping every few minutes would you?

True, but it would take less space. It could fit on the bottom of the right column where you can have fit example lyrics...so 1/3 to 1/4 of screen width. A separate instance/program takes whole screen width plus its own menu rown from height.

@Methosan: I think I get what you're saying (infered from the screenshots).

Yet, I'm wondering:  has it ever been possible to see a playlist without importing it to MB?
(I just did some tests:  no playlists/playlist tracks are visible (indeed), unless I import the playlists.)
Now, I wish I could some tests with MB2.2. If what you say, is right (let's assume it is ;-) ), that seems to be an interesting feature...)

I indeed use 2.3.5188 and this version and older versions I used display M3U files in folders. I can create a new one from any program into any folder and navigate into that folder with MB and will see that M3U file there. These are not imported playlists.

I sent to foobar the file I was to preview.

Kind-of on-topic (since this thread is still in wishlist) :
+1 for some preview/dual-output functionality within MusicBee.

Kind-of off-topic (only slightly) :
Have you considered reversing your workflow?
So foobar2000 would be the player that outputs to the main speakers/audience, and MusicBee gets purposed to previewing, browsing your library, and sending the tracks you want to play to foobar2000?

Two programs running at the same time here has some benefit. You'll only have to look at foobar2000's panel to see what your audience will be listening to (next).
And you can mess around with MB and it's library without worrying the audience will notice or that playback will be interupted.

When you send a file to Foobar it resets the playlist and starts from scartch with the file/files you send there.  You would need to drag the file(s) there to make it work like that.. but then you're again running out of space on the screen (if you want to make sure you drag the new files in the right place/spot).

The point of these recurring posts is to reduce the amount of hardware (2 computer or 2 displays) and number of programs needed. None of the dual deck players out there have what I want. MB 2.2 has everything I need except the preview or player within player (previewing a song in headset while another plays through main output).

As I tried to point out:  you don't need 2 computers nor (depending on the size of your display) 2 displays.  Only a second sound card.  So you can use MB 2.2 to play (if that version has everything you want) and another version of MB (portable) to listen with headphones.

Now, MB 3.3 is broken for me as it does not show M3U playlists in the file browser window. Until that is fixed I will continue to use 2.2.

Still do not totally get what this means... Are you saying that in version 2.2 you didn't have to import m3u playlists?  (when not created in MB)  And also that any changes (with another program) were immediately visible in MB (and the other way round, so automatically synchronising)?  And not anymore in later versions?  This is hard to imagine for me... But if it's just a matter of 'fixing', well, then, I guess... it's fixable... ;-)

b.

Ok I get what you are saying about 2 instances.. this is how I can run MM and MB at the same time.. or Foobar and MB. I always have an extrernal soundcard so I have 2 outputs.  But this is still 2 programs running.

Look at the 2 screen shots in the first post.  The white background is MB 3.3.. no files visible in the folder where you can see dozens of M3U files in the 2.2 version.  These are not imported playlists but playlists on hard drive.

Hardly "professional" playing. Playing music at social dance happenings for dancers. At best getting travel expenses covered.

I think if I used/had ever used iTunes, Traktor's software might have been the ticket.. as it reads itunes database.. but otherwise I have not yet come across a player that does what I want it to do how I want it to do.  Of the dozens and dozens of players out there I have tried, free and not free, MB and MM are the best for my style of database/playlist playing.  MM is just clumsy and keeps rewriting my tags for some reason.  It has a so-so-functional preview plugin player but otherwise I dislike the feel of it.  MB is just lovely.

Here is how my screen looked last night.  Left column is browser to different harddrives and playlist folders and you can see the playlists displayed there.. something that went missing from 3.3 MB.

I sent to foobar the file I was to preview. Managed to keep it all on one screen but 2 programs.

The plugin Steven mentioned does not work for this issue. Not looking for full turntable features or two full blown players.. But a player within a player ;)

https://www.mixxx.org/features

Any better?

Mixxx has a nice preview feature that I've been referencing in the questions portion post in the forum.. But Mixxx doesn't have that third column for now playing music. I collect music into the now playing playlist that I want my player to automatically play. I move files as needed within that playlist.

During the night I browse to these various playlists I have created as source of music, and drag sets of music from them to the now playing playlist. At the end of the night I export the list for history to a different folder than the one containing the source music.

Last night I used the option to send a file to Foobar2000 and had split my screen so that foobar was along the top. It was a bit stressing though as I almost stopped the room music when instead I just wanted to stop the music coming from the headsets :/ ;)   But this was already an improvement to having to swap programs all the time. If I had dual screens at the gig then this would not an issue as you can drag files from MediaMonkey into the Musicbee playlist....

Not an option for as long as MB doesn't have a preview player option, which I've been hoping for for a long time. I need to be able to read the same M3U files with MediaMonkey.. So when I make a change to the playlist file with one, the other program sees the change. If the playlists are within the program it would not work.

Also, with hundreds of playlists I wish to save (one for each gig), I'd only like to have my core playlists in view at all times, and then I navigate to another folder for the gig playlists. This is how I have it now. Core in folder 1 and history in folder 2.

I've included the screen shots from two different versions of MB that navigate to the same folder. Older version is showing the play lists in that folder (there are no actual music files in that folder).. The newer version does not show the play lists.

These are playlists that are on the computer as M3U's.. Exported playlists from MB. They're not music library playlists.

Questions / Re: Second deck or file player through secondary output
« on: August 02, 2019, 02:13:05 PM »
I just want to browse to different folders, preview a song, and if I like it, I add it to the Now Playing list.
Wait, are you previewing one track at a time or not? *is confused* :-\
[/quote]

You are right.. What I started to do.. or the idea... was to preview in Musicbee and then send it to play in another lightweight-playlist_only-player(of the kind there really are none; foobar is closest configurable to that task).. but this isn't what I had asked here yes.

I had asked here how to use MB as main player and preview elsewhere.  I would still like MB to have the function to preview within without needing to change screens or programs.  Of course in case such a plugin was developed a few other changes would also need to take place:  3.3 version has removed the feature that is critical in my 2.3 version: Ability to read M3U playlist files in the file browser column.

Thanks

Would it be possible to have MB show along the bottom the number of files and amount of playtime selected, when selecting files in the Playlist.  It shows it in the library portion but not from the playlist.  It would be of value to me that I could see how many more minutes my last X songs in the playlist take to play.  Mediamonkey has this feature.

Send to-option does not work for me.  I tried and it is fine if you play 1 song at a time and send each song right after the previous one finished. At least I could not get it to work with older Musicbee, Foobar2000, or XMPlay.  XMplay opened a new instance for each file; Foobar and Musicbee replaced Now Playing playlist with a new list of the file(s) I sent, instead of just adding them to the queue.

I don't actually need 2 big decks like Serato, or MIXXX, or VirtualDJ, or Traktor..or CUE/feature. I just need a plugin within Musicbee that allows me to scroll through the same library I use to play already.. I just want to browse to different folders, preview a song, and if I like it, I add it to the Now Playing list.  Someone had made such a plugin to Mediamonkey long time ago but I don't like Mediamonkey (and the plugin is old and doesn't work beatifully anymore).

Check Mixxx.. It has crazy many decks available but the point is you have this little miniplayer on the side and you assign it a different output in the preferences.

MusicBee Wishlist / RESTORE playlist viewing in file browser window
« on: August 01, 2019, 06:55:30 PM »
How I use Musicbee for my particular musical dance genre:

I gather songs into a playlist arranged for a specific artist.  Once I start to DJ I navigate to these various playlists via the file browser in MB 2.xxx. It shows all the M3U playlists in the folder.

But this feature has been removed at least from MB 3.3xx, meaning I can not upgrade to the latest version to take advantage all plugins and skins available.

Could this feature please be returned or is it a setting somewhere?

Questions / 3.3.7115 is not reading m3u files
« on: August 01, 2019, 01:26:00 AM »
I have been using 2.-something for a long time and in the file browser (left column) I can navigate into a folder and see all the m3u playlist files in the folder and then find music from those lists that I have made.. but in this newest edition that I am learning how to use, the file browser sees no files in that folder.  What gives?
