Tag inspector still had some of them, but most had to be reentered manually. Am on the way... Step by Step.

Yes, I do.
To be honest: I adore MusicBee but when it comes to classical music it is (as all other music players) underdeveloped when it comes to identify all different artists and their roles. So I created my own system - which works. Worked very well. Till that crash...

I do backup. They run automatically up every night... For music even double. So the morning after the crash the backups had the same tags as the originals.... And I did not notice that, not editing MB every day. Maybe a month later I saw what had happened. Since then I have a separate backup music disc in my safe. Backing up things once a month - or after lots of additions or changes...

You should try and find out what sort of files they are. You acquired them, and they are on your computer.
When you know the filetype/extension, do a google search for something like 'extract' or 'split'.

SOLVED!

Done it. Due to Chinese spelling I could not see what the content was.
Finally found out it was not an .iso file as I had assumed, but just a cdimage.wav album. Plus a .cue list. Then it was easily done...

If none of your ASR presets got checked by accident, then I would suspect interference from some other software. I've never known MusicBee to delete data without input from me.

As said before: the cause will forever remain a mystery. So be it. Strange thing is that after a pc crash ALL mb info was intact - but ONLY the content of customized tags that I only use for performers of classical music was either gone - or mixed with other performers, sometimes halfway a name. Tag inspector still had some of them, but most had to be reentered manually. Am on the way... Step by Step.

Apparently the info stored in virtual performers fields is not safe as the stuff in Fort Knox. Any suggestion to prevent future losses?

Virtual tags don't store anything, they can only process what's in another tag. Do you have anything set to run automatically in Additional Tagging & Supporting tools? If so, I would disable it.

I use ASR often, but nothing done automatically. Always under manual and mental control...
The empty virtuals are the result of disappearing information in the custom tags (vocalist, instrumentalist, choir, orchestra etc). No clue why they disappeared in the past and recently again...

Hi again, Psych,

I think you were the one who taught me the trick to split unsplit albums.
But the format converter can do nothing with the CDimage file I downloaded when looking for some authentic Chinese music.
A box of eight of those image files either.
Can NOT see what they contain, flac, mp3 or other.
Can just PLAY the 50+ mins file as it is. Perhaps manually split with Audacity, based upone audio gaps. But without any track info...\
What to do?

About your previous reply to my previous problem: the disappearing VIRTUAL PERFORMERS seems to be a returning error. No idea why it happened for the second time now. The first time was a real mess, with old and new titles and artist names mixed. Am still step by step working on restoration. Put a LOT of work in version 1 and will take me same amount to create version 2.
And then again, part of the new performers disappeared again after a computer stop during a nightly power cut. Everything edited since the last pc start (several days earlier).

Hi,

I have done it, some time ago, but now can not find back how I did it:
Split a full album from a cd image file into separate tracks.
I thought I had to send it to format converter, but there I get lost.
Forum search and wiki do not give the proper search result.
Any reminder, please?

Thanks to Psychoadept I got my unrequested (?) STORE version replaced by the PORTABLE version, which I could normally update.

The savings and autoorganize issues could not be solved. Most likely they have to do with an issue in Windows 10 (my problems started when I switched from 7 to 10) which causes delays in proper data updating and storage.

The other possible cause could be that I tend to have a lot of tabs open, which affects memory of course. But before Windows 10 I had the same amount of tabs open - and no savings problems. So my guess is that W10 is the culprit. Others complaint about various issues as well...

I think I found a clue about my mystical installation of the Store version: a local tech assistant/service must have installed it after a major pc upgrade, followed by a first installation of Windows 10 - before I still used Windows 7. The tech also re-installed as many of my programs as he could, including MusicBee. Apparently he has selected the STORE version (he asked to access my Windows account, if I remember well).  I REALLY have never been aware of the existence of such STORE version - believe me or not, Frankz.

But I can live with any version that does what it should do - and waiting (a bit?) longer for updates is not an issue. So the store version will stay where it is. How will a new STORE update be announced? Any idea when - at what intervals?

But...
How come the STORE version apparently THINKS I am editing tracks OUTSIDE Windows, which is not the case? How to convince the STORE version of that? And to solve the (related?) savings issues which really are bewildering. Tags I just added/changed cannot be saved, but (often) if I try it a second time they DO save. But (often) it results in two versions of the same track, one with and one without the updated tags. Then I have to test which one works or not. The wrong one reports that it can not be located. Or I just have ONE version of the track, saying it cannot be located. Then a restart/rescan is required - which often finds the track back with the old tags... Really confusing!

No, I never used a portable version (even didn't know it existed) and NEVER even visited the Windows store.
Only the regular PC version, directly from the MB site itself.
Around 10 years now...

The strange 'saving trouble' started about 7-8 months ago....


UPDATE:
I just found this during my search:
- There is only 1 musicbee.exe file in my whole system (checked with EVERYTHING app)
- It is located in C:\Program Files (x86)\MusicBee
- If I go to that folder and click the musicbee.exe... very strange: the BASIC MB opens, with NONE of my preferences & layouts.... BUT... WITH the newest version 7525...

So the mystery is:
- How is it possible that for a few years unchanged I start MusicBee from my taskbar with ALL my personalized features, looks & feels, but...
with the old 3.3.7491 Store <<<<< JUST NOW I noticed that word STORE.... never before paid attention to it.

Is this the conclusion:
The store version (from a store i never visited) should be changed into the new one in a different way?
How?
Or what else?

Sorrrrrry... was so absorbed by my attempts to show a screenshot that I overlooked your question...

The store?
I just work on my pc and got the update from the MB website, like I did a hundred times...
Truly successfully - but now not.

The installer SAYS the new version was installed successfully, but opening MB showed the new version was NOT installed...

So?

And on the screenshot: do you see anything irregular that could be the cause of the trouble?
I am not aware of anything....

I just noticed something new:
If during editing (before saving) the orange exclamation mark appears and you 'hover' it, it says:
'This track has been edited outside MB, you should rescan the file before it will show the edited tags'

Both is not true:
1. The editing was done INSIDE MB
2. Rescanning brings the OLD tags back, not the new ones...

Thanks for your prompt response.
1.
Installation failed 5x now. Says 'installation completed successfully'. But not result in the ABOUT screen: still the old version...
2.
Never been very familiar with auto-organis, but:
- Auto Organize is active, from all destinations to the exact same target.
- In the PREFERENCES LIBRARY box it has an orange exclamation mark, but I just thought that was for ATTENTION only, not for errors
- When I opened the feature a LOOOOOONG list of 'unorganised'(?) files appeared. I clicked on ORGANISE but was unaware of any alternative location of those files.
- Most of them 'moved' (?) without a problem. Many of them reported 'no change'
- For a few (?) a warning popped up that I didnt understand about missing tags that would be overruled by system tags or something. I saw no problem in OK'ing that.
- One particular file (1 of a full oratorium of 50+ tracks) refused to be organized but after 5 attempts it was successful and disappeared from my list
- A long list of tracks remained in the same list but reported 'no change'
- I tried to make a screenprint, but failed
- Below find a partial screenshot I made after the process described above. It took me a while before I could add it - the MB link about adding screenshots with imgur is outdated due to imgur option changes. But I found a way to make a link:

Questions / Cannot install version .7525 & have savings trouble

Hi,

Trying to find a solution for my long time ongoing saving trouble, I found the latest update .7525, downloaded it and tried to install it.
But it fails - version 3.3.7491 stays active. How come?

The saving problem:
While editing it often happens that an orange exclamation mark shows 'something' needs my attention.
If I save the edited file, it often goes without any problem, but more than occasionally the result is that I have TWO identical (looking) files: one with all my edit updates, one missing one or more tag updates.
If I want to play one of them, it is just a guess, which one works?
The one that does NOT work says: cannot find this file at the expected location.

I cannot find what I am doing wrong, what is the solution.
Nor do I know if I am the only MB-user with this problem.

I had hoped the new version .7525 would have corrected any related issue, but if I am not able to make it run - then what to do?

Questions / AutoDJ not working properly (repeated)

Hello all,

My previous post about my AutoDJ issue got 41 reads but no replies. Perhaps a second posting finds a solution.
I have two issues:
1. When I stop/start the AutoDJ the selection in the column PLAYING TRACKS DJ is refreshed (and plays) but in the pane no PREVIEW of the tracks are shown. Restart/restop does not help.
2. The selected content has not been filtered: by default I apply the filter 'do not show xmas music' but the selection often contains such tracks.

I have been searching in all preference chapters to see what setting I perhaps missed.
But I can't find any.

Anyone, perhaps?

Questions / Saving problems when editing tracks while playing them

Hi,

When I need to edit newly imported tracks I more and more get a warning (orange exclamation mark) and error (file cannot be found at expected location). Often very difficult to SAVE the newly edited information, including artwork.
Often I need to quit MB, restart, then see my file twice and one of them is 'empty'. Not playable.
The other one is. Must save it. Then ok.

What can I do to avoid this way around?

Questions / AutoDJ not working properly (repeated)

Hi,

Not sure if this is an older issue, i just came across it today.
My AutoDJ works fine, with a proper filter and a column PLAYING TRACKS (DJ)

But...
If I open a TAB with the AutoDJ i can change my selections, but I never see a preview of the selected tracks.
How come?
