General Discussions / Re: Official MB appreciation thread
« on: August 14, 2022, 10:04:34 AM »
MusicBee is my music player/manager/tagger of choice and the only one that ticks all boxes. Low resource requirements, a sensible amount of customization, and it can do really everything you'd want out of a music player. It has many features yet it doesn't feel bloated because all the features serve a purpose, which makes it very enjoyable to use. It's very rare for software to achieve all of that and the reason why I would use MusicBee as an example for good software. It's also nice that the sole developer, Steven, is frequently implementing feature requests. Thank you for putting in the work and effort @Steven

MusicBee Wishlist / Select multiple folders in navigator
« on: July 22, 2022, 08:51:25 PM »

It would be nice if one could select multiple folders in the navigator. CTRL + Click to add/remove folder to/from selection, SHIFT + Click to select a range, the usual shortcuts.
I use MusicBee to tag albums and this would come in really handy.

Questions / Re: Entire library deleted
« on: July 21, 2022, 07:23:36 PM »
Q1: You should have a file named the same as your library file with a .bak extension in the library folder. Assuming you haven't closed and opened MB since the incident, this will be the library as it existed before.  If you have closed and opened MB since the incident, you'll have to rely on your system backup.
Q2: Don't monitor folders for changes (Edit->Edit Preferences->Library...Monitored Folders) if you don't want those folders monitored. Update your library manually.
Thank your for your response and the hint about the .bak file. It's not a big problem because I am lucky to have made a backup only three weeks ago. For the around 2000 new files I was able to guesstimate the stats and add them manually and the library is fine now.

It would also be nice if these situations could be prevented, for example by requiring user confirmation before applying changes that affect a huge chunk of the library, but I know that something like that is difficult to implement because you have to make sure not to put the database in an inconsistent state. Monitoring folders is evidently not safe with the current implementation, it's way to easy to lose your library. : ( I'm going to scan manually from now on but that might also not solve the issue because the folder could still drop out while scanning and it would again delete my library.

Questions / Entire library deleted
« on: July 21, 2022, 05:23:21 PM »
I have my music files on a SMB network share. Today my Wi-Fi connection to my NAS was having a couple dropouts when suddenly all the files in my MusicBee library disappeared and in the bottom left corner it read "xxx.xxx files removed from library". I suppose me losing connection to the network share somehow signaled to MusicBee that there are no files instead of a connection issue. After waiting for MusicBee to re-add all the files to the library, I found that it had lost all statistics.

Is there any way to revert the library to the previous state which has all my statistics (play count, track rating)?
How can I prevent this from happening again?

Questions / Equaliser and DSP
« on: May 29, 2022, 05:05:31 PM »
Hi, I'm not experienced with audio postprocessing and I'd appreciate if you could give me feedback on my modest setup.
First, I'm using the build-in equaliser with the oratory1990 preset. Second, I'm using RC-20 Retro Color as a VST using the VST Effects Support plugin.

Would I be better off if I equalised using another VST instead of the built-in equaliser or is the current setup fine? What order is everything applied in, does MusicBee equalise before passing the signal to the VST or is it the other way around?

Thank you

MusicBee Wishlist / Small tagging improvements
« on: February 28, 2022, 09:25:25 PM »
1. Make more tagging tools assignable as hotkeys, specifically the "Remove Tags..." tool. Currently it requires you to navigate to this submenu which is a bit tedious.

These are the tools currently available as hotkeys:

2. Keyboard navigation when editing tags
It would be very helpful if there were keys assigned to these buttons. Maybe ALT+Arrow Key?

Thanks for all the work you do on MusicBee

Hi,

I was wondering whether there is a way to disable MusicBee writing the "DISPLAY ARTIST" and "DISPLAY COMPOSER" tags to my files.
I like to tag my files once and then never touch them again.

Also I remember seeing one of moderators here say that MusicBee will never modify files on its own, can I assume that is still true except for the "DISPLAY *" tags?

Thank you,
nugget

Bug Reports / .jpeg cover file gets duplicated when editing tag
« on: November 08, 2021, 09:58:40 AM »
Hi there,

use a track with no embedded artwork but with a cover.jpeg file in the same folder. Setup MusicBee artwork preferences (Preferences -> Tags (1)) to prefer external cover over embedded (screenshot below). Open edit window for track. Edit any tag. Observe the cover.jpeg file getting duplicated to a cover.jpeg.jpeg file.
I've only observed this with .jpeg files, .jpg files for example don't get duplicated.

I made a video for demonstration as I'm guessing I might have missed some intricacy in my explanation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JTcbdyj-HEY

I hope this gets fixed. Thank you in advance
