MusicBee Wishlist / Some QoL Changes for Tag Editor
« on: February 27, 2024, 07:00:18 PM »
This is a combination of suggestions and fixes that's simpler to consolidate here. Would be appreciated if any of this is worth considering.

1a. Pressing Up/Down to Enable Predictive Search - There isn't a way to enable the predictive search box on an active tag without having to backspace or type in more letters, which either specifies or generalizes terms within the query and can show different results because of it.

1b. Infinite Scrolling - Specifically to scroll from the bottom of the tags back up top, and vice versa, with the arrow keys. I make use of arrows often for easier searching, so it'd be convenient for me.

2. Highlighting Error - The images here will show what I mean.

This image shows the first result highlighted. If I press up, it'll go back to what was initially typed.

The problem is that the first tag is still highlighted, meaning that when I press down from there, it'll skip to the second result.

It would also affect the search box if it shows a single  tag, which would not display again if you scrolled back even once.

These ones mostly relates to the Vertical Tag Editor.

3. Clicking on the VTE Region to Preview Changes - If I wanted to preview any edited changes I made before saving in the Floating Tag Editor window, I could either click within the window itself or press enter to remove the search box. Neither of these could be done in the VTE, especially since the mouse cursor is naturally where the VTE to make it happen.

4. Saving Highlighted Tags with Enter - If I set Enter as a hotkey to save, and attempt to edit tags in both VTE and Main Panel Tag window, it wouldn't save if the tag box is still highlighted. This doesn't happen in the regular floating tag window, where pressing enter twice (once to remove the search query and preview changes) works fine.

ahh. misunderstood you. yes, the context menu contains only commands that are meant to be mainly applied to selected tracks, e.g., all tag backups (except for tag history) are removed from it, or LR is removed. LR can be applied to selected tracks, but that's not the main purpose of this command.
I see. I didn't know such changes were being made as I was updating and thought it was some kind of issue.

Besides the ones suggested earlier, I like to have the ASR option again.

@Mafios, i agree with you.

@All, which context menu items should i leave in context menu on reducing their count?
I meant if the right-click menu is meant to already have less options than the Tools menu at the moment. Because I'm not seeing certain options there like I used to in previous versions.

In fact, after just updating to the most recent one, both Swap Tags and ASR options are gone from the right-click menu.

Thanks for the fixes you made, it's now working well. I'm curious about the right-click menu if it's meant to have the lesser but maybe more common options than what it shows in the Tools menu?

Are you sure the recently added files are definitely added to your library?

And not just being viewed through the computer node?
In addition to what voodoopunk suggested you look at:
Also trying making a copy of an older file where the prediction works. Then add that copy to your library to see if we can rule out a file type issue.
Other than that, I don't think I would have any further ideas as it's still working fine for me under the same steps - sorry.
I think it was partially a library issue, since I ended up backing up and creating a new library in a different place and that seems to have worked. Man I feel dumb, but thanks you 3 for the help.

Is this happening with all tags or specific ones?
It happens with all tags.

Also, just to make sure I have it right, are you saying that:

- If you add the value "Predict" to the <publisher> tag on one song...
- then go on to the <publisher> tag on another song and type in "Pred"...
- MusicBee will not, at that point, show "Predict" as one of the existing values?
Correct. When I do this with an older song in my library, it updates and shows the result fine, but doing the same thing with a more recent song won't work at all.

If this is truly the situation, after adding a value FOR THE FIRST TIME, exit MB, restart MB, and the value will show up when trying to add it to a new file.
It won't show no matter how many times I restart.

What version of MB are you using? (Help > About) INCLUDE THE LETTER (if any) AFTER THE NUMBER
How was MB installed? (Store, Installer, Portable)
Installer. 3.5.8698.

Initially I was on 3.5.8447 when I noticed it.

Questions / Predictive search not working
« on: January 10, 2024, 10:37:42 PM »
I don't know if it's a bug or not, but I'm having an issue with my recent, or even new tags I've made not showing up in the Edit Tags window. Most of my older tags will show, but when I either scan in new albums, or add in new info that share the same tags, it won't appear among the predictive search results even if they already exist somewhere else.

Edit: For example, this one is older but it shows fine.

This one is more recent, but won't show.

Hello. I'm having some trouble with certain keys (backspace, spacebar, arrows, maybe more) not working, while also triggering MB actions in the background.

Noted, but it would help the case some more if either of you guys could perhaps provide a mock-up of how you'd want it looking.
I want the look of the left half of the picture, but keep my main panel on the right half.

Have a look at the Album Covers view > Customise Panel... > Show the tracks for the selected album to the right of the main panel.

I don't have nice pictures to show it right now, but I think this is somewhat what you require?
It's close, but I prefer having other layouts over the one it gives you.

Pretty self-explanatory. Would be nice to just have the thumbnail artwork so it can show a lot more icons.

Nope. I don't see any benefit to this.

Can I ask why?

How do you see this being implemented?
Something like this. It's edited, but it more or less conveys the idea.

These are the tabs I was referring to, where each disc hosts its own separate tab, reducing if not removing the vertical scrolling that's needed, because only these tracks are the ones shown. It's kept all in one page, so instead of shifting through all the tracks in a boxset, you shift through those tabs instead, perhaps building mental cues through those clicks which would make it both easier and faster to get to your desired disc or track.

There could even be an offset of some sort when you have a certain number of discs in a given album, where you could show 2 or more discs per tab as an option, so it doesn't have to be just one disc that is visible if you want.
