Questions / Re: Musicbee just plays one track and stops
« on: March 23, 2021, 09:43:36 PM »
I've been using Musicbee for a couple of years now. The only thing I can think of is there was a firmware update on my music streamer today (Cambridge Audio CXN), as the streamer plays a track then pauses. It could be that. I'll investigate that, maybe it isn't to do with musicbee. I stream from laptop to streamer. Hmm.

Hi, I think this is not a Music bee issue, or at least not initiated by MB today, i also have a CXN and had the same issue after it upgraded its firmware, i was using DS audio not even MB at the time, my CXN was on beta firmware mode, i switched back to normal firmware and it downgraded itself, it solved the problem.

Ok so now that I played with filters, I'm still discovering things and realized Auto playlists works in a similar way, and even have more/better settings !

what is the use case of filters compared to auto playlist ? are filter here to be used in a manner i don;t understand yet ? as i feel auto playlist are more powerful now...

So let's say,
on my desktop computer, connected to my main library (USB3 disk) : instead of having 20 libraries, I have 1 library with 20 filters, ok, at least 20,  i will even play with filters more which i was hesitating to do with libraries :-)
on my laptop it may be more tricky, while I'm fine to let my laptop MB scan network share, i tried, it works fine, I feel like having a library with local files and one with network drive, but with different filters, which does not seam to be possible as they appear to be shared within libraries, which I understand but does not help me.
While I feel it should be possible to have different filters per library, I realize now while typing this that I can make one library with a mix of local and network files and play with filters, i can even only scan certain folder for change and not others...
After 10 years of loving MB but with a big portion of my time without using it much (I had to be on MacOS for work for a while, now back to windows), i see better the real potential of MB :-)

thanks for the help again

[EDIT]
Yes filter can be hidden/shown per library, sorry for the mistake, I'm rediscovering MB :-) and actually doing the library as a mix as I described last and it's great.

Questions / Re: Streaming from DLNA Server

I realize now, that a shared folder is accepted in MB, that it became available to load in a library, so ok it double the database but it may be a solution to my questions.

The short answer to your question is no. And it's also an inefficient way of doing things.

You should be looking at, and using filters.
https://musicbee.fandom.com/wiki/Filters

Aaaaamaaaazing :-) a new world is opening.

actually I was using this in Audirvana and did not know it was in MB.

it also changes the perspective on my other discussion about reading a UPnP DLNA server, as I learned to load a shared folder, I now see them as available to load in a library...

thanks a lot

Hi
I was not expecting the thread would take that path ... :-)
@ Vincent
My NAS (file sharing) is user/pass protected in and out of my local network, I understand UPnP may not be safer than an unprotected folder share, at least its only local, anyway guiding the discussion into network security was not my intention :-) thanks for your advises :-)

I managed to access my shared music folder in MB, I only had to put the networks address of the folder in the Folder box instead of waiting for the server name to appear.
I'm please to see how it handles the folders, kind of quick tag scan per folder, MB could play well but going from a folder to another is not smooth, even with a good WiFi (if that's a parameter) and trying to play folder than have not been scanned is troublesome. that could be a good way for occasional listening, but it' not the same an indexed database of course.

Bringing Hifi Cast for android in the discussion is interesting because it illustrate my point, I actually use it everyday because it looks good, it's fast, it understands well my Asset server (much better than the synology DLNA server btw) and work well with my CXNv1 ... so you see where I'm going, I wish MB on top being amazing with local files,  could be as good as Hifi Cast for browsing a DLNA server but on my windows laptop, using my portable DAC, through the VST plugin, etc...

sorry guys but I'm not going to talk about VPN right now :-)

Questions / Re: Streaming from DLNA Server

Hi There, sorry for digging :-)
I admit I would also like to use this functionality, I carry my laptop around the house to work (you know, work from home with family around etc...) and would like to benefit from my DLNA server through MB interface and DAC management on the laptop. I can't carry my whole collection around, nor like to use the little interface of a phone.

Btw, I know I could add a network share in BM but it does not work for some reason, my server name shows up but none of the drives drops down, maybe it's because its user and pass protected ? well DLNA server function was a safe easy way to share music on the network  without compromising server access security. hence the question above.

thanks for the help :-)

Questions / Libraries switching
« on: March 17, 2021, 09:26:26 AM »
Hi,
Loving MB for more than 10 years :-).

I like to have a lot of libraries (20+) to manage my collection, is there a way to have them available to switch from in a more convenient manner ? currently I have to click on the tiny left panel title and scroll down a menu, and libraries change their sorting order themselves in a way i don't comprehend.
So basically, could I see my libraries, maybe as a permanent list within the Left panel, in an alphanumeric order for example ?

thanks for the help and the great work :-)

Plugins / Re: UPnP/ DLNA device support

Hi There,
CXN V1 user here, once I also had the "one track" played issue, and my solution was to downgrade the CXN firmware, as nothing other than that changed before the error occurred, actually i was into the beta firmware mode, so i simply switched back to normal firmware, it downgraded itself, and all worked fine again.
I hope it helps
