Hi!
Recently I set a goal: to collect similar music in one place to enjoy. Before this idea arose, I used a simple algorithm: I collected music by genre in one playlist. So do I have the following playlists of my favorites?
- the best of progressive rock
- the best of progressive metal
- the best of heavy/power metal
etc.

Further, in order to make it more convenient to listen on a portable player, I divided this playlist into several parts, calling them like this: the best of progressive rock I, the best of progressive rock II, etc. But I just randomly collected them from my favorite tracks. I began to notice that in some of the collections there were more sad, calm tracks, and in others there were more driving ones. But in general, if I’m in a thoughtful or bad mood, then I put together a playlist that matches my mood. If you are in a cheerful mood, then you want to listen to something cheerful.

I was wondering what algorithms do music lovers use? Maybe there is something interesting, maybe some unspoken rules for compiling collections? I'm trying to grab onto something. I understand that there can be many such ways. I'm interested to know about them.
P.S. Or maybe there is some kind of program that can group tracks according to something similar, something in common?

Previously, I copied the name of the artist and album into a text file, and then, before downloading, I opened a search in this file. But then you had to search in the text file and also in MusicBee. This is 2 actions. I would like to make it simpler: so that you only need to check it in MusicBee once.
Hmm. Why do you also have to check in MusicBee?
The separate list will only include things that are definitely not in MusicBee any more because you already deleted them.  :-\

Perhaps you didn’t understand the essence of why all this: before downloading an album, if I don’t remember by name whether I have it, I look for it in the MB library. If it is not there, then it may be in the remote ones. To do this I need to use search in the text file.

If you delete the files in Windows Explorer (not MB), don't the deleted songs remain in the playlist with a ! indicator that says the referenced file cannot be found?

If you add files to a library and then move them to a new location, they are moved to "new" but a record of that album remains in the libraries. Clicking on the tracks displays a message stating that the file is missing (you need to specify a new location).

The ideal option would be if you could create a “Deleted” playlist, add albums there and delete them from the HDD. But unfortunately, after deletion they disappear from the playlist :(
[It's odd that I've had to explain this about half a dozen times over the past month or so.]

A playlist is nothing more than a text file. It only contains the path to the music file referenced. It does not contain any music files. It is text only.

When you delete the music file, the playlist updates by removing the path (text) pointing to that file.

I understand it. Just expressing my wish that it would be great to be able to add to a playlist without having the entries removed when physical files are moved or deleted.

After all, I remember exactly what happens when I click on a track in the library (not in the playlist), and I get a notification that the track has been moved and is asked to specify a new path. This would suit me with deleted files.

I don't think it should be MusicBee's responsibility to record details of tracks or albums that have been explicitly deleted.
That feels... wrong.

The ideal option would be if you could create a “Deleted” playlist, add albums there and delete them from the HDD. But unfortunately, after deletion they disappear from the playlist :(

You could do more or less the same thing with the Send to > Clipboard command.
Copy the tags you want to record for deleted albums (Artist, Album, Year etc.) and then paste them into a separate file.
An Excel/Google worksheet might be helpful because you could easily sort it by Artist name to make it easy to check against later.

This is good advice, thank you. Previously, I copied the name of the artist and album into a text file, and then, before downloading, I opened a search in this file. But then you had to search in the text file and also in MusicBee. This is 2 actions. I would like to make it simpler: so that you only need to check it in MusicBee once.

You now need to install it yourself. (e.g. look here)

It’s strange, I already had the file opusenc.exe in the Codec folder, I replaced it with the one indicated in the topic, but OPUS did not appear in the list.

You could convert the albums that you don't want to listen to anymore (but still want to have in your library as a reference) to low quality OPUS files.

Quite a good offer. But I didn’t find how to do this using MusicBee. This format is not in the list for conversion.

How will this help me? I meant the local method, without using third-party services other than Music Bee
You asked if someone had another way of recording what they've listened to.  I am someone, and I responded with the way I record what I've listened to.

You had a local method, but said you were too lazy to use it.

This will help you by providing an automated method.

You might also consider not deleting files you may want to listen to and evaluate again in the future.

Hope this helps.

If I had an infinite number of HDDs, I wouldn’t delete them. At first, I rated albums that I didn’t really like with 3 stars, then I listened to them again after some time and realized that I wouldn’t listen to them anymore. Started deleting. Because new music is taking their place, and the space is getting smaller.
Probably the only thing left is to delete the files, leave the folder empty and use the search in the file manager.

Questions / Storing a database of listened but deleted albums in Musoc Bee
« on: September 20, 2023, 09:27:17 AM »
Hi!
I listen to a lot of music, and some albums are listened to for reference, and then deleted from the hard drive. Years later, it happens that the album is downloaded again (due to the fact that you don’t remember everything, it is forgotten), listened to and deleted again. I would like to make it so that before downloading an album, you can enter the name of the artist and album into the Music Bee search (or in another way) and make it clear that this album has already been listened to (so as not to download in vain and waste time on listening).
It also happens that you download an entire discography, and you don’t like some albums, you delete them, and then 5 years later you forget, you download again, I think you haven’t listened to the album, and you delete it again, realizing that you didn’t like it.

Maybe there is some way for Music Bee to remember listened but already deleted albums?
Previously, I kept a list of deleted albums in a text file (it also contained albums that are located on other media). But over time, I became too lazy to write down album names in this file. It would be great if Music Bee saved the history of what you listened to but deleted.
Or maybe someone has another way of recording what they listened to?

At first I also thought that the problem might be changing the drive letter. But I checked every time - in the explorer it always remains unchanged.

The problem recurred. Can anyone suggest how to prevent it in the future?

I connected an even older version of the MusicBeeLibrary.mbl backup file and there is a playback history and tags that I prescribed.
But the playlist explorer is empty. I have a lot of customized playlists there. I could only import external playlists. The player does not see autoplaylists when importing. They are in the same folder as before: Library/Playlist/Auto-playlists.
How do I import them so that MB will display them in the playlist explorer?

And please advise: what should I do to protect myself from losing the play counter, playlists from the explorer (why do they disappear? This is not the first time, and I'm not moving anything) and losing tags? (maybe something needs to be changed in the settings? can I somehow write them to a file (play counter and tags 2) so as not to worry about losing them?

Hi!
Recently, I often encounter problems related to my music library in MusicBee. This is not the first time I notice that after the next search for new files, my entire library is reset and moved to "new files". Today it happened again. But everything is in order.

I'm using portable version 3.4.8033 P. The entire music collection is on a removable hard drive. I have to turn it off often. I update new files manually, through Insert. When the scan started, I found on the bottom line that there were a very large number of new files on the New Files tab. I realized that for some reason MB began to perceive all files from the library as new.
I stopped scanning. Rebooted MB and ran a full scan. And again on MB I thought that all these files are on
disk are new. The play counters are reset, the auto-playlists are empty, and even the tags that I so diligently wrote down (I wrote down on the tab "tags 2" - "country" - disappeared. In fact, I lost my entire history. I almost had a heart attack.
It's good that I made a backup of the library - I thought. Substituted the old MusicBeeLibrary.mbl file and ...something has changed, but not everything.
Here's what's returned:
- now all my music was in the "music" section, only a couple of hundred files were identified as "new"
- atopplaylists pulled up the necessary compositions
That's all. But unfortunately I didn't fix it.
- the play counter has been reset, and for so many years, I have had so much music, it is dear to me to know what music I listened to most often
- the "country" tags that I entered so diligently did not appear recently, they simply do not exist in any file. Now auto-playlists by country do not work for me
- I also have empty values in the "listened" column. Now I don't know what I listened to and what not...

Please help me get my story back. Are the play count and tags lost forever?
