General Discussions / Function track count does not work for videos
« on: January 28, 2023, 08:12:22 AM »
I would like to find Artists or Albums with only one Title in my  video library.

I can do this in my music library using function track count however this function does not work in video library.

Also, the library explorer is always empty in video library.

I own thousands of digital comics and use ComicRack (sadly abandoned for years). I can organize, group, filter by Series, Volume, Number, Title, Published date, Released date, Crossovers, Imprint, Writer, Penciler, Inker, Colorist, Letterer, Characters etc.  (all these tags are scraped from the ComicVine site). Then would come the need to find dupes, convert etc., all things we can do with audio files in MB.

Documents (Office etc.) I don't know, I only have a few and I don't need  some specialized software. But images, videos, eBooks  have a lot of specific tags too. To support the most used digital files would mean support a huge number of new tags and/or custom tags and some new features you'll find even in the most basic specialized managing software.

MB already allows for custom tags stored in the MB library. Nothing more would be needed.

As for video, managing them with MB without the ability to play them directly would be pretty much useless.

I would be fully sufficient to use the default windows opener.

The only benefit would be on PC to watch videos from your HD/SSD by opening your video player automatically when you click on a video file in MB. I'm not sure how much people still do this.

I do.

Again, there is no need for specific support, just relax a restriction.

Maybe i was phrasing it wrong. I am not proposing any additional support for other file types, no viewers, no special tags, etc.

All i was asking for, is to drop the restriction on non music and video file types, and maybe support to open whatever is the OS default application when clicking on an imported file. So, almost no extra work to be done.

I Have a large collection of mostly pdf and some doc and html files related to various topics. I searched intensively for apps to organize them (e.g. Tabbles), but none can match the flexibility of MusicBee regarding customizing tags and features like the column browser

I am not asking for any additional tags or other things. Just relax the restriction on types of files that can be imported. That is all it needs. Or am i wrong?

Questions / Re: Use MusicBee for various types of documents

It allows me to navigate in my hierarchical folder structure (which Calibre doesn't allow)
That can be achieved with Calibre:
https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/sub_groups.html

But the idea of MusicBee being able to scan and import file types other than audio files is an interesting one.

Thanks, did know that.

However, there is another thing i do not like about Calibre: It duplicates files into its custom store, MB leaves them within their folder structure.

MusicBee would be just perfect for my needs. It allows to attach all types of tags (enumerated as well as free text) to a file. It allows me to navigate in my hierarchical folder structure (which Calibre doesn't allow) and its has the column browser. And it is fast!

I tried other tagging applications, e.g. TagSpaces, Tabbles. They all lack free text tags and a columns browser and feel a bit sluggish compared to MB.

In the other hand, i do not all of the enhanced document management features as collaboration, workflow, version and change management etc.. That's what makes them so expensive.

So all i would need, is MusicBee not to restrict the file types and to open files based on the Windows file type associations.

Questions / Use MusicBee for various types of documents
« on: June 30, 2022, 04:41:20 PM »
I already manage my music files and video clips with MusicBee. Works just great. I would also like do manage a few hundred pdf, text  and Word documents with MB. Seems this is not supported. Any plans to open it for all file types?

1. I am tagging video files, so these tags are never saved with the file.
2. The questions is, why are the tags - which are stored in the MusicBee library - deleted when rescanning the folders

10
When i rescan files, and a standard mp3-tag (e.g. artist) in some of that files has been changed outside MusicBee, all values in the custom tags of that files that are only stored in library are cleared.

Is that work-as-designed or can that be considered as a bug? At least this is nothing i would expect and it can delete hours of work.

Bug Reports / Custom Tags of type enumerated in video files
« on: October 15, 2020, 08:10:44 PM »
I have a custom tag of type enumerated. When i select a video file and enter a new value for that tag, this new value will not appear in the drop-down. Only when i select a music file and enter it, it will shows up in both, video and music files.

Sorry, i try to to explain: ]In the Library Explorer, when i right click on "Music"-node, i get a pop-up menu with 3 items, one of them beeing "Filters".

When i right-click on "Video"-node i get a pop-up with only one item "Open in new Tab". "Filter" item is missing.

Hope that makes it clear.
