MusicBee Wishlist / Improvements to Album Art functionality
« on: May 09, 2022, 01:06:13 PM »
1. The ability to add multiple jpeg files in one go would save a LOT of hassle. That is, to be able to multi-select files when adding to artwork instead of one-at-a-time.

2. Further to above, the last selected options (embed in file, link to file, etc) to be remembered - at the moment the "embed option" is always selected by default regardless of last action.

3. The artwork pop-up window that opens when you double-click the artwork during playback to be resizable AND zoomable - preferably both simultaneously, i.e. the ratio of the window is constrained and the contents auto-resizes to fill frame.

4. Further to above, a back/forward clickable in the pop-up window that allows you to navigate to the next/previous artwork file.

General Discussions / Artwork - possible improvements
« on: May 05, 2022, 01:36:11 PM »
Hi all, before posting these ideas as "feature requests", I'd like to glean any knowledge that anyone has around the subject and whether there are already any solutions / workarounds:

Would love some feedback on the above suggestions - I'm sure I'm not the only one to feel these things would be really useful.

As an aside, much as I'm loathe to stop using MB, does anyone know of another music library app that maybe does do all of the above?

Questions / Identify tracks with "exclude from playback"
« on: April 27, 2022, 11:57:14 PM »
Hi all,

I've been using "exclude from playback" as a way to weed out tracks I don't like (discovering a lot of new music at the moment).

My question is: how do I identify these tracks in my library afterwards? For example can it be included in a custom "column" in the MUSIC view.

Basically I would like to periodically review these excluded tracks and make a decision as to whether to delete or keep them.

Thanks for any help :)

Thank you! that worked a charm :)

Questions / Auto-numbering tracks
« on: April 26, 2022, 01:26:48 AM »
Hello folks...

I have a fairly lengthy digital album (59 tracks) which I managed to lose the track numbering tags for.

The filenames are actually numbered in the format "Track# - Title", however MusicBee ignores the numbers in the track names for display purposes, and further doesn't seem to want to put them in order of the track numbers either.

I can't seem to find any way to 1. get them in the right order, or 2. auto-number the relevant track# tags in MusicBee.

By contrast, Foobar2000 orders them by tracknumber as per the names of the files and also has a handy "tool" which auto-numbers the tracks.

Can anyone tell me if there's a way I can do this in MusicBee?

Questions / Re: Bitrate checkers
« on: March 13, 2022, 02:43:20 PM »
Obviously not.
The one thing that gives it away is if you look the first ten seconds. There at 16kHz you see a step in the density.
That's something you'll almost always see with mp3's.
Opus files don't have these 'steps', but Opus has a hard frequency limit at 20kHz, which you will often notice if you compare it against the lossless version.

I'd have to disagree with that, surely the step in density is to do with what is happening in the music. It's very rare that you will find a track that starts at full volume from the get-go, so most music will have this noticeable change in density regardless of what format it is in.

Another good test would be... on a nice sunny day, put on some 320kbps music through a decent stereo, open all your windows and then maybe potter in the garden for  while. Then put on that same music in a lossless format and do the same. Observe how much more detail you can hear, clarity of lyrics, subtleties of lead instruments and the like

Good point... that's the rub really. You're right most people wouldn't hear the difference. And indeed if I walked into a room and heard music playing I would not immediately be able to say "that's 320kbps"...

On the other hand, in an A/B test I think many people, myself included, WOULD hear the difference. It's hard to describe such a subjective thing but I would say it's an increased "solidity" to the bass frequencies and overall clarity and detail in the mids and highs.

Of course what it's being played back on makes a huge difference too.

Well... I'm a bit new to all this but was reading that if the file is completely lossless I should see frequencies present all the way up to 22Khz, whereas the Spek readout seems to show a cutoff at around 21Khz...

on reflection, comparing it to the deliberately lossy files I can clearly see the difference though!

PS.. my hearing cuts off at 17.5hz, so looks like either way my original is good enough!!

And here's the same track intentionally saved as a lossy 320kbps mp3

Interesting stuff...

So I pulled out a track that Fakin the Funk claims to be 320kbps, whereas it sounds just fine to me (was in fact a recorded HD stream from Amazon HD music, downloaded locally at "highest available" first, then recorded via "loopback" in Audacity)

Spek and ffmpeg give me slightly differing results, what I see in Spek suggests it may well be less than full bitrate, whereas ffmpeg is suggesting it's full-quality (allowing for the slightly different scale on the khz)

Questions / Re: Applying DSP plugins to specific tracks
« on: March 12, 2022, 10:04:53 PM »
A plugin that allows you to load VST plugins, as per this thread: https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=13022.0

I have a music collection that includes quite a bit of classical, but also some louder rock/dance music.

I find that for general listening, the classical pieces are too wide in dynamic range so would like to be able to set a plugin to be applied only to certain classical albums to compensate for that difference.
