Thanks, Phred, a very reasonable explanation!

Why doesn't the MB forum allow simply dragging the image file to the reply window like many other forums do?

Questions / Re: Strange behavior in playing multi-movement classical files

Using MB and clicking on Edit the Properties, the bottom line is Location :C:\Music\Symphony No.8\Shostakovich, Dmitri (1906-1973)\02 Symphony No. 8.flac
So file is 02 Symphony No. 8.flac, in the folder and subfolder structure Music\Symphony No.8\Shostakovich, Dmitri (1906-1973)

Thanks, hiccup, let me explain with an example. I have the five movements of the Shostakovich Symphony #8 digitized as Flac files in a single folder. If I open MB, I can find this recording in its proper location, as indicated by the path field, but it only shows (and plays) one movement. I am trying to get MB to display all 5 movements in the main player. If I close MB, navigate to the same folder in Windows, select all five movements, the MB main player pops up and these five movements are listed and played in the "playing tracks" window.

My files are properly tagged and I use MB to play the music. For most of the files there are no problems. However, I discovered that if, in Windows Explorer, I click on a single file, I can select MB as the default music player. And, if I do that, MB plays that file and all the following ones in the same folder with all the tags intact. I have about 1600 files, if that matters.

Questions / Strange behavior in playing multi-movement classical files
« on: February 02, 2024, 02:53:13 PM »
I've been a MB user for a long time, having installed and used it on several different computers. My Library seems to be a little scrambled.

I put the music files in a folder called C:\Music followed by several subfolders. For example, if I rip a CD, then MB creates a folder called "Ripped Files". I recently discovered that I have several multi-movement symphonies where each movement is a separate file. In the main page, only one movement shows up (sometimes, but not always, the first movement). However, if I use Windows Explorer and click on the first movement, they all play in the correct order (I have set MB as my default music player). I have been unable to make the main page of MB find and add those additional movements. I've tried "locate missing files", under the Tools menu; "Add Files to Library" and "Scan Folders for New Files", both under the files menu.

A related question, what is the best way to organize files. If I'm downloading a digital file, I create a folder or folder+subfolder with the album name, artist, and/or the composer and put all the files there. I then edit the main page entries to make sure all the metadata is correct, and that usually works. It can be a bit confusing, because maybe half of these files came from my old iTunes library, which has its own organization, which I don't feel like messing with, unnecessarily.

Thanks in advance for any pointers.

Questions / Re: Multichannel files and SACDs

ChildOfTheMoon, my list includes Mono, Stereo, and Joint Stereo. What's that?
sveakul - If I edit one of these files and select properties/type, do I change that to Wasapi Exclusive? Some of the files are "DSF audio file, 1 bit" with a sample rate of "2.824 MHz" and others are "Flac audio file" with the regular CD sample rate (44.1 kHz), or, in some cases, 48kHz.

The files do play, but I can't tell if they are real surround sound or simulated by my Yamaha HT receiver. Also, the tag for number of channels is "stereo", but I don't know where that came from. I need to get a test file which has obvious 5-channel sound. Some of mine are .dsf files, and other are .flac ones. I got them from nativedsd.com.

Questions / Multichannel files and SACDs

How does MB handle multichannel files? I have purchased a few 5-channel DSF files but am not sure if MB can play them. Also, is there an easy way to rip multichannel (or stereo) SACDs?

I found it's easiest to just use MB for both ripping CDs and tagging. I get the information for the tags off the CD itself. If the files are digital downloads, then (usually) the tags are already there. Vinyl - that's a different issue!

I'm using update KB5031323 and am having no problems for the regular installation.

Questions / Transferring MusicBee program and library to a new computer
« on: September 24, 2022, 10:55:15 PM »
I've been using MB for a couple of years on an older Win10 computer and wish to transfer the program and library to a new one, which is running Win11. Is the easiest way to download and install the latest version of MB, then copy the contents of the folder(s) where the music files are located to an equivalent set of folders on the new computer? I want to keep both installations active, at least until the old computer dies. Should I update MB on the old computer first? Currently using 3.4.7628.

Questions / Re: Update path\filename of specific song in playlist
« on: February 25, 2021, 07:41:34 PM »
Yes, I have both the old and new folders continuously monitored, but I am MOVING the file from the old to the new, so it's no longer in the old. If it's coming from some other folder (such as Downloads), I also move it to the new folder.  I don't know where I got the idea that I should run as Administrator.

I don't know if this is the preferred way, but when I want to move a file into the directory which MB is using, I stop and close MB, move the file within Windows to the desired directory, then start MB again, this time "Run as Administrator".

Questions / Re: Contol NAS with Music Bee

I have the music files which MB reads on a shared hard disc which BluOS reads. The only problem I have is that the NAD won't play (or even recognize) the few DSD files I have, so I used MB to create FLAC copies of them, and everybody is happy!

I think the OP wants to use the very capable MB player instead of the lousy BluOS one.
