Questions / Was "Out of Memory" fixed with 3.5.8447 release?
« on: March 21, 2023, 11:53:13 PM »
I didn't see in the release notes anything about out of memory that required a patch to force the Large Memory Model being addressed.  However, since the new release, I've imported large XML itunes libraries, as well as scanning folders with 1 million items and no memory problems with the native .exe.  Is this a coincidence or something planned?  Just curious.

*Resuming this thread*
Per above posts, I was able to use the EDLIN patch to solve an iTunes import problem with out-of-memory errors.  However, there were problems with "Unable to save the Library Database" errors and reverted back to a native, unpatched musicbee.exe.
However, I now am getting out-of-memory errors when doing File Scans on the entire database that I can't avoid with some sort of workaround.  I applied the same EDLIN patch and  it solved the problem of getting through the entire scan and updating the in-memory MDB file.  But now, the "Unable to save the Library Database" error has re-surfaced when I close MB.  I've gone through a number of MB forum posts, and based on these, I've:
..Disabled Norton and still get the same error.
..Through File Explorer, changed the Read Only to unchecked and get the same result.  For some reason, the Read Only attribute is re-checked each time I start File Explorer up again.
..Started MB as administrator and same result.
The only new variable causing the "Unable to Save" popping up is when I apply the EDLIN patch.  I am really stuck with recovering mp3 files in the MDB file that were detached during the intial File Scan that failed.
Ideas?

I ran an itunes import to MB with a large xml file (1.7gb) and it worked fine (ran for nine hours).  I'm set.  I'll save this post in case I forget the process when the next MB release comes out.  Again, thanks for your help!

Thanks again for your ideas.  I did what you suggested, still failed, but then took the alternative syntax (boxed), and it seemed work (see attached).  I  backed up the existing .exe   before moving the test .exe into the program directory and it seems ok. I don't know powershell, but the file modified date and file size were the same, so don't know if there was really an update to this parameter).  In any case, I won't be needing the itunes import of play dates for a few weeks, but will post if I  get the original out of memory message   that started this post.  Until then, cheers.

Thanks All:
I downloaded and move editbin.exe to MB directory and entered the command line entry.  The two shots show the exe location, and two attempts on the cmd line, the second based on the message listed in the first.  Any suggestions?

Hi Steve:
I went to the link and this is what I got:

MediaFire
MY ACCOUNT
Something appears to be missing…
The key you provided for file access was invalid. This is usually caused because the file is no longer stored on MediaFire. This occurs when the file is removed by the originating user or MediaFire.

I was importing last played/likes from itunes to MB when this error occurred.  The message said to report it here.  I tried twice and same error occurred.

Zak and hiccup:
Thanks for the tips.  Both worked.  Had to experiment on adding some custom sorting options, but eventually works just fine.
Again, thans for the quick response!!

Questions / Displaying Un-Numbered tracks in Alphabetical order by Album?
« on: January 31, 2022, 03:30:30 PM »
I've combed the Forum with no avail on the above topic.  It seems that albums that I have acquired that are missing track numbers at times appear in a random title order, and not alphabetically.  I've tried to use the sort feature to no avail.  I've attached a screenshot in iTunes (I've abandoned), and the same shot in MB with the current preferences that I think should force titles into title order, but it doesn't.  Is there a setting I'm missing?  Link is below

I think this may have been requested in 2015, but I frequently click the mouse wheel by mistake (when doing long scrolls) putting me into the search view.  I'm then  forced to return back to previous view/function.  There is no way of disabling the click function in windows settings.  Can this be done?  It's really a hassle, and hopefully a straightforward enhancement through the edit preferences/general panel.

General Discussions / Re: Official MB appreciation thread - One for 2021

Just contributed $ and it was worth every penny.  I've been using MB since Jan 2020 to migrate off of iTunes, and it has been a terrific journey.  With help from PsychoDelic (sp?) and others, most problems were overcomed.  I have a library of 1 million tracks (will decrease with dupes) that includes digitized vinyl starting from 1957 and every other media I have/had, in the last 50 years, but hey, MB handles large libraries without complaining!!!!.  Keep doing what you do.

Questions / Re: Final iTunes to MB migration steps??
« on: December 31, 2020, 12:07:10 AM »
Ultimately, my solution was not  a one-step load from a folder to my e:...\music directory.  Instead, as noted in the original email, I did the File>File/Scan Folder using my removable drive directory.  MB added the tracks from the removable drive into the MB library, but still leaving them on the removable drive.  I then highlighted all the tracks just added in the main MB Music view, went to Tools>Organize Files where all the highlighted files were showing in the "original filename" window.  I entered the file directory for my e:...\music directory to the "to folder" and pushed "Reorganize" button.  All the tracks were moved from the removable drive to the main music directory.  NOTE:  This is a "move" operation, so the music on the removable drive will be deleted if it is in fact moved.  As a sidenote, if there are any tag errors in the tracks (track/disc # missing, etc.), these will not be moved and have a error entry as a warning in the original filename window.  They also will not be deleted from the removable drive.  Finally, if all tracks are moved with no errors, your root directory on the removable drive will also be deleted, as well as one of the tracks mysteriously will remain in the "original filename" window, and show a status of "No Change", even though it has been moved.  I simply uncheck the entry the next time I am moving more tracks into MB on the next cycle.
