Thank you Steven!

Any chance of suppressing errors again in the future?

It blocks using the "File-> Scan Folders for New Files" functionality.

Bug Reports / Scan Library New bug with 3.5? (Store version)
« on: February 23, 2023, 02:05:17 AM »
Hi Steven,

Today I attempted to rescan my library, on my NAS, something I've done dozens of times in the past.

I'm getting an error:
Code
2/22/2023 7:36:58 PM - 10.0.22621.0 - 3.5.8447.35843 Store - System.IO.IOException: An unexpected network error occurred.

The #recycle folder is not accessible to the account Musicbee uses.

Two possibilities come to mind:

1) Something changed in how Musicbee traverses network folders and it's not skipping the ones it can't read.
2) Music bee is the same as it's always been, and I enabled Synology's "Restrict access to administrators only" on the recycle bin, and forgot I did it.

Either seems equally likely.

Steven - do you remember if MB gracefully dealt with folders it didn't have permissions to prior to 3.5?

Thanks - Jack

PS - Workaround for now is File->Add Files to Library.

Are there any tips for speeding up/locally caching the album artist pictures?

All my files are on a NAS, and when I launch music bee, the left side takes a bit to populate the list of images.

Seems like there should be a way to cache these locally on my PC.

Any thoughts?

Questions / Integration with Elgato Stream Deck?
« on: November 27, 2022, 01:00:39 AM »
Just wondering if anyone knows of any integrations with Elgato's stream deck - something that might show track name and time?
Right now I'm using Elgato's media controls which work great for play/pause, Track forward/back.

I installed windows 11 on a new drive.
reinstalled music bee, everything's great.

Just wondering if I can pull over all my ratings from my old musicbee install (I have the drive)

Questions / Re: MusicBee can't play from NAS source, other musicplayers can
« on: November 27, 2022, 12:52:59 AM »
This really sounds like a permissions issue.
Can you open the folder in Windows explorer and see if you can copy a file to your desktop?
You might also bring up task manager and confirm musicbee is launching as you.

I had a similar issue - I opened the folder in explorer, and entered my credentials, but did not click save credentials in windows.
That same day musicbee indexed everything and worked fine.
the next day after a reboot, musicbee showed my library, but any file I played showed the same message as you are seeing.
The solution (for me) was to open the file share in windows and choose the option to save credentials, then I restarted musicbee and it was fine.

This might be a feature request...

How can I keep the center panel up to date and expanded on the current playing artist/album/track?

Ie in this example, I'd want the artist "yello" in the center, with the "Tied Up CD Single" selected, and the current playing track highlighted.

If this isn't possible today, is there a feature request area?

Questions / Any way to sync the "Music Explorer" tab with what's playing?`
« on: February 23, 2022, 08:14:53 PM »
My musicbee has the current playing album in the bottom right - if I click the artist name, it takes me to the "Music Explorer" tab and finds and highlights the current artist.

Just wondering if there's a way for that Music Explorer page to change with each song change.

Also it'd be great if there was a way to expand the currently playing album in Music Explorer.

Thanks!

Just what I was looking for!

Questions / Is it possible to store ratings separately from files?
« on: February 16, 2022, 09:44:58 PM »
I keep all my music on a read only NAS Share, when I rate a song (ie 4 stars) I get an error that the original file could not be saved.

Just wondering if there's an option to store that information elsewhere.

(I keep the NAS read only to avoid accidental deletes/encryption from malware)

Thanks!

this is great!

For the benefit of others who might find this question I wanted to add some detail.

"Filters" are kind of hidden in musicbee, they aren't in the menu and they aren't in preferences.

On the main music bee screen, you get to them by right clicking on "music" under "library" BUT - even that is often hidden in musicbee!

I've found it really helpful to enable a setting in perferences that puts a little button for showing or hiding the library sidebar - you can find this under preferences->Layout(1)->scroll down to the "Bottom Panel" section then check "Status bar: Show buttons (open/ close sidebar panels)" with that you'll see two very tiny buttons at the bottom of musicBee's main window, click the one on the left to show the Library screen then right click on music to get the filters menu.

I made a filter with "Kind" "Is any of" and then checked FLAC and Wave.

Hope this helps someone.

Thanks Frank, my mistake, I was on questions and looked through a few pages, then before posting though I'd check out the user advice and tips to see if I could find something there - forgot to switch back before hitting that new post button, I see it's been moved to the correct place now.

I wonder what techniques others have used to manage mixed libraries where some of the content is lossless (wave, Flac) and some is lossy (mp3)?

I can keep two sets of folders (one for lossless and one for MP3) - If I add both folders to musicbee, is there an easy way to filter one or the other or both?

Most of the time I just want to listen to lossless, but I made the mistake of buying a number of things on itunes over the years, and I'd love a way to optionally bring those in to music bee from time to time but also be able to keep them out of rotation for things like the DJ and shuffle mode.

If you've dealt with this, please share any advice you can!

Thanks!

- Jack

Bug Reports / Re: WASAPI (Exclusive) stutters - Musicbee or DAC?

Thanks phred, the search must be in the context of what section I'm was in.

Appreciate all the help, I think I'm nearly all sorted out now!
