Questions / Delete duplicates - anyone used an app for this successfully?
« on: February 15, 2024, 07:26:38 PM »
Hi, can anyone recommend an app that will delete duplicates based on same MP3 tags (artist and album and title)?

The problem is, I came from iTunes where I have two of each file in many folders, one starting with "1-", from when you told iTunes it was disc 1 and it changed the filename.  So, then I have two identical song files in the same folder, just one starts with "1-" and one doesn't.

Thanks for any recommendations!

Questions / Re: I can't get auto-tag to behave!
« on: January 24, 2022, 11:19:19 PM »
In the topic subject, you mentioned that you can't get Auto-Tag by track (infer and update tags from filenames) to behave...where is it failing?
When you use something like <Artist> - <Album>\Audio Files\<Artist> - <Track#> - <Title>, don't you get the results that you're expecting when you hit preview?
And inside your album folders, are all your tracks contained in an "Audio Files" folder? If so, then the above should work well I think.

Ah, I see.  I did do that, and I was confused because in the preview window, it was missing artist= because dbpoweramp had somehow already tagged the artist when I FLAC'd the files.
Thanks!

Questions / I can't get auto-tag to behave!

Help!
:)
I have files such as this:
E:\FLAC\Vinyl rips\The Jets - Private Number (12 inch)\Audio Files\The Jets - 01 - Private Number (12 inch mix).flac

I have musicbee collecting files from the FLAC folder automatically and putting them into INBOX.
I am trying to infer tags from these file name and paths so that it gets the Artist name and album name from the 3rd folder (The Jets - Private Number (12 inch), and then the track number and song name from the file itself.  Or whatever way works.  Is this possible?

All the files will be in common folder FLAC\Vinyl rips.

Thanks

Not necessarily, but at least some responsibility for the product would be due, if the creator of the software actually got paid for his hard work and time.
Wow.
So you are saying the developer doesn't feel much responsibility for this fantastic software.

It would be good if you could take a step back and sprinkle some relativity on the gravity of this cd-ripping issue you are experiencing.
If that's difficult for you it might indeed be better to F off.

Would you like to take me over your knee and spank me some for being naughty?  I might even like it!   ;)

I am saying that:  iTunes and Windows Media Player rip at 40x, but Musicbee will not.  I guarantee that if I posted on Windows forums, they would say as long as Windows Media Player is working fine, then it is a problem with Musicbee, and I would tend to agree.

How do you make musicbee copy files to the library folder when moving from inbox?

That was a suggestion to F off.  I don't take it well.  I'd rather pay for MusicBee and get real tech support.

So you believe that in general payed software has better support than what MusicBee is providing for free on this forum?
Maybe it's time for a reality check?

At least someone might be able to tell me how a CD rips at maximum in Windows Media Player, but MusicBee won't, unless I first start ripping it in Media Player.  This seems to me to be a problem with MusicBee interfacing properly with either the OS or my external drive.  In either case, I don't see how I or anyone else on this forum besides the writer can solve it.

Everyone is so unpleasant responding to suggestions and advice today what gives?

If you click the Settings button in the rip dialog, the default rip speed is set to Maximum. You could try setting it to 48x but I dont expect that would make a difference as its ultimately windows/ the device/ quality of the cd that will make the final determination

When I was working in tech support for a computer manufacturer, this is the equivalent of telling the person on the phone that it was not our problem and to call Microsoft, even though the computer is incapable of doing anything without an OS.

Is this bug?
If I rip a CD in Musicbee, it only goes at 4x.  However, if I open the CD in Media Player and start ripping the CD (I cancel it but I start the first track), then I return to MusicBee, it will then rip at my drive's max speed, which is up to 48x.

What gives????

Questions / Re: CD rip speed - anyone figure out why this varies so much?
« on: January 06, 2021, 09:43:44 PM »

It's an interesting question, and now that you brought it up I'm curious too.
But a google search on "why are some cd's ripped fast or slow" gives a large amount of various possible explanations.
I don't think you will get any better, or a more definitive answer on it here.

True, then, I will ask if anyone here knows if anything in Music Bee would slow down the process, if one selected "quick rip"?

Did a lot of searching online, and no one seems to have any rhyme or reason why a CD is ripped at 20x plus or at 4x.  I can put in brand new CDs and they read at 4x, and then a 30 year old CD and it reads at 40x plus with my external drive.   This makes no sense.  Anyone really know the answer to this and if there is anything that can be done about it? Thanks

Questions / CD metadata not working again
« on: January 06, 2021, 08:31:34 PM »
Hello, this isn't working again.  I am ripping some very well known CDs that are listed on the musicbrainz site, and musicbee will not pull them in.  I'm not typing all these songs in.  It'd be nice if this were consistent.

BTW when this happens, I can go in after the fact and tag it automatically from the internet using the context menu once I fill out artist and title.

Hello, I added some folders inside the monitored folder with new music in it, and the program will not see the new folders to add them to the library.  When I click on Choose Folders, the folders are not shown in the folders.  I cannot get the program to refresh this so it will see the new folders.  What gives?  I thought it was supposed to monitor the folder I selected and all folders inside it.

Questions / Re: Genre tags from imported mp3s are showing as numbers
« on: January 12, 2020, 04:43:27 PM »
Those codes where introduced some 20+ years ago for id3v1:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ID3v1_Genres

So some of your genre tags are populated with these numbers and not with the genre names, and MusicBee is displaying that as-is.
Your previous music player probably had some 'auto-translate to text' function for it.

So all you need to do is change these numerical values in your mp3 files to actual genre names.

iTunes must have been displaying them as text then.  I changed the genres back in Musicbee.  Maybe they'll stick!  Thanks

Questions / Genre tags from imported mp3s are showing as numbers
« on: January 12, 2020, 04:21:59 PM »
Hi, I imported many tracks tagged in iTunes, and some of them show as numbers, like Alternative shows as "20", and R&B shows as "14".  What gives??  These appear to be random.  Most of them are OK.
