Is there a way to dynamically update the upcoming tracks to play according to edits I make to a playlist? Because sometimes I'll make edits to a playlist that I am currently playing but I have to reupdate the Now Playing bar manually for those tracks to play/not play if I removed tracks instead. Likewise is it possible to edit the Now Playing list and have those changes automatically reflected in a playlist of my choosing? Essentially what I'm asking is if it's possible to sync the Now Playing list and any given playlist automatically, so they're "locked" together in a sense.

I realize I could just use the "Now Playing" feature alone without having to worry about a playlist, but I'd like to make use of such a feature if it exists for two reasons:
I like to archive playlists I make so having the final version available according to my edits made without having to go through my play history and make the playlist manually would be nice.
If I accidentally double click a song to play it outside of the playlist all the upcoming tracks I would have on Now playing would be lost so it'd be cool to have the playlist act as somewhat of a backup. (I realize normally just double clicking a song to play it would update the Now playing which would in turn update the playlist making that useless - I guess I then have to ask yet another question, is it possible to turn that feature off at least temporarily? Like have a quick access on/off button or something? Or otherwise make those sort of large scale changes have no impact on the playlist?)

So for some tags there's this little handy dropdown menu, when I select the field I can just press down arrow and it will open it up, I can highlight certain values by pressing the arrow keys. My question is what shortcut, if available, can be used to select these without having to click it with the mouse. I'd figure if you can move and highlight between these options you should be able to select them using the keyboard as well. But I have not found a way to do this yet. If there is no built in way to do this can anyone recommend me a workaround? This would make categorizing my music just easier enough to be bearable.

Secondly, I accidentally typed in something really stupid for one of these dropdown tags and now it has its own option in the dropdown menu, it's stuck there and now it's cluttering up the menu. How do I get rid of it? I know it's possible because somehow before in the past I managed to hide all of the unused values in the dropdown menu for this tag, which was rather useful as I didn't plan on using them anyway, and it allowed me to focus more on the values I did use (hopefully it wasn't just a glitch, if somebody has done this before and knows how to do it can you tell me?) I thought it did this automatically but it turned out it was a one time thing and I can't figure out how to hide those unused values again, this would also be useful for getting rid of this one useless weird value I'll never use that's cluttering up the dropdown.

Now this got me thinking, and I apologize that this would make the post three questions but I originally thought of this and thought it was a little far off but is it possible to make custom tags dropdown lists? This would also be very helpful but it sounds far off so it is not required.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Questions / Highlighting
« on: June 03, 2019, 11:16:04 PM »
So I recently discovered the Highlighting feature and it sounds really cool and I've been toying around with it a little. Only thing is I can't get any of the colors to show up, unless I click the "text?" box. Otherwise no color related to the songs shows up anywhere. Does this have to do with the "icon" selection box? I don't have any icons in that folder that it brings you to so what's up with that? Does it color the icon instead? Is there something else I'm missing that it colors usually?

Thanks in advance.

Questions / Re: custom tag information not showing up when I moved PCs
« on: April 19, 2019, 02:40:34 AM »
Thanks for your help guys, got everything working again. Got all my playlists back and the information in my custom tags.

Thanks @frankz for your suggestion, I don't know why but I never thought about the possibility before of it updating everytime MB was closed because that makes sense. I actually had 2 seperate copies of my library, one in my C drive and another in my D drive (my old laptop didn't have 2 separate drives, my new one does). MB was using the one in the C drive which I assume didn't have the information the good old one in my D drive did. I couldn't figure out how to relink the library to use the D drive instead (and didn't want to because the C drive had all my playlists stored in it which was its own big ordeal to fix, but I managed to do it on my own) so I just copied the .mbl and mbl .bak files over to the C drive. This however only worked partially as all the files became unlinked from their original locations again to the old drive, which was understandable, however they did have the custom tag information in them unlike the previous files. Tried relinking and rescanning to no avail, they were still unavailable, and actually MB ended up making duplicates of every single file in my library. When managing those duplicates it was split about half and half between the old linked files and the new linked files which worked but did not have the tag info in them. I was frustrated and to be honest almost was tempted to uninstall MB and install again with a clean slate, before remembering I made a backup of my library (yay me!) so copied that whole library into the current "corrupted" library and all of the files worked again, none having the tag information (the unplayable C: linked files from the old laptop had the tag information while the correctly linked D: linked ones didn't but were playable). I ended up copying every library file from the D drive onto the C drive except the playlist files which would have been lost otherwise, due to the D drive not having the playlist files, and it was likely they would have been gone forever if I'd done this and not backed it up beforehand, which come to think of it I did. A dialog popped up when I clicked on the MusicBee icon again asking me to relink the music files (interesting to note, there was two, I'm assuming for both the library management folder and the library folder itself which I kept. The music library itself defaulted to C:\Users\(old name) to C:\Users\(new name) (the two laptops had different default usernames on them) but I had to change this to D:\, but what's interesting to note is that typing it in did not work and for whatever reason said that was an invalid file path. So I actually had to click the dots and click on the D drive that way. I left the library management folder as is since those file paths looked correct (C:\Users\(old name)\Music\MusicBee I think to C:\Users\(new name)\Music\MusicBee which was correct as I decided to leave the library management folder in the C drive). Clicked OK and everything to my surprise worked, all files are playable and those which had the custom tag information have retained them, even those which have custom tag information in the playlists are playable and have the tag information, no duplicates no nothing! And yes the playlists still work.

Thought I'd write out this detailed description if any devs would find it useful, or anybody experiencing similar problems to me might be able to benefit from this description. Thanks for all your help!

Thanks, but tried that and restarted twice, then tried to rescan once more for good measure, to no avail.

Any other ideas?

EDIT: worth noting that I checked the .mbl file and the last time it has been modified is in fact back in 2018 when I was still using the old laptop so I know that should have the custom tag information. Yet it apparently doesn't.....

Questions / custom tag information not showing up when I moved PCs
« on: April 18, 2019, 12:55:55 AM »
So I'm kinda confused, I don't remember this happening when I switched everything over to my other laptop a few months ago. That laptop failed and here I am with a new laptop, but my old old laptop still works so I decided to get back MusicBee from that laptop. Despite drive letter and folder path discrepancies I got most of everything working, it can detect my old playlists, songs. etc. Even my custom tags have been successfully transferred which I was glad to see! That being said the information inside the custom tags is not showing up. Funny enough the information inside the Mood tags has been saved but not any for my custom tags even though I'm very sure I did a few songs back on my old laptop. Anyone know of a way to get this info back without having to manually copy it over? As that'd obviously take forever lol.

And yes I realize and have read a similar thread posted months back and someone said the tag information is stored inside the .mbl file which I have confirmed has been copied over. But I still see none of the tag information itself. I can understand embedding the information in the music file itself as opposed to the MB database but the same person also said that's a big ordeal and I'd prefer to avoid that if I can, besides I don't even know if I was forced to do that if I'd have enough unused custom tag slots available to do that and create new custom tags embedded in the music files.

As said before I don't remember this happening when I switched over from my oldest laptop to my previous laptop a few months back and I obviously didn't have to ask for help then, so I don't know what I'm missing now.

Anybody have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: worth noting that I checked the .mbl file and the last time it has been modified is in fact back in 2018 when I was still using the old laptop so I know that should have the custom tag information. Yet it apparently doesn't.....

Questions / Re: How to edit other tags?

Yeah, I could find the custom tags, but I couldn't rename one of my custom tags to season because another tag already had it. https://imgur.com/a/WUgR770 See

I tried to rename a custom tag to Season, but couldn't because the other tag already had an original name of Season. So I had to name mine Seasons for the time being.

Either way the original real Season tag isn't showing up in the tag editor and I was wondering how I could change it or find it.

And I got MB from this website and I'm the only one who uses this laptop so no one else could've created a tag themselves. And I've only used MB for a few days so I wouldn't know how to create a custom tag not using the Custom fields either.

Questions / How to edit other tags?
« on: May 16, 2018, 02:16:35 AM »
So I figured I'd create a new topic for this so more people can see instead of only the people on the other topic noticing another thing I was wondering. How do I edit the tags which don't appear on the Edit screen? By the way it's crazy the amount of tags there are for MusicBee. I'm digging it. But I was creating a custom tag and named it Season, but apparently someone thought alike me and created the tag already, because it said each tag name must be unique and there is already a tag named Season. But I can't see it in the tag editing window. How do I edit tags like those?

Not for me https://imgur.com/a/JeNXzxp

see, for most of my songs they say unknown even though they have an artist, but i found out the left thing with all the artists in there go off of album artists and not normal artists, is there a way to change this so most of the songs will be put in the right artist?

It's alright, I found another way, I figured out how to use Windows Media player to sync music from my phone to my laptop and then imported the Windows Media Player library into MusicBee. But most of the tracks don't have an album artist tag but have the artist tag, is there a way to auto copy what the artist tag says into what the album artist tag is?

Questions / Syncing music from my phone to MusicBee
« on: May 13, 2018, 02:45:01 AM »
I apologize in advance if I'm just really oblivious and for whatever reason haven't found the obvious option to sync music from my phone to MusicBee but how do I do it? I've looked around the forums and wiki and haven't found anything mentioning syncing from a phone to MusicBee anywhere. Well, actually, there was one about a Windows phone but it didn't have any replies. MusicBee detects my device just fine but I have lots of music on my device MusicBee isn't detecting. The only way I can get some of my music to appear is if I go to the actual location where the music is, down to the last folder, if I'm a few folders up it won't show anything. Also, there doesn't seem to be an option anywhere to sync my phone's music to MusicBee. I just got a new laptop and had to install a new music player, I found this and for the most part it is fantastic and it's hard to believe you aren't asking money for it, but I had a ton of music on my phone beforehand and it'd be nice to sync my music from there to MusicBee so I could have all my music on my laptop too. Oh and I guess I should say all my music is on the SD card in the phone, my phone's storage is way too small to have all my music on it.

Thanks in advance for any help

Update: Have found the Scan Folders for New Files option. I included the location of the music on my phone in the list and clicked proceed, but to no avail. It says no new music found even though there's tons of music on my phone it isn't popping up on MusicBee still even if I go straight to my phone, this is to import into the library which I want. Once again thanks for any help in advance
