Got it. Thank you for the clarification!

Questions / Does MusicBee save multiple genre values in seperate tags?
« on: November 22, 2020, 06:47:03 AM »
I guess it uses a null character to seperate the multiple values in a single TCON tag. But it's kind of confusing because in Tag Inspector they are shown as several seperate TCON tags. I just wanted to know for sure. Does MusicBee save multiple values in separate tags, or in a single tag separated by null characters?

Bug Reports / Last.fm genre tagging is broken
« on: April 11, 2019, 10:15:19 AM »
"Update Tags using Last.fm Tag Cloud" option returns no updates. However, it works when "retrieve artist genres only" is checked under "Preferences > Tags (2)". Tagging genre by album doesn't seem to work anymore.

Thank you! I'll try that.

Thanks for the reply! I have both TEXT and LRC embedded to my files. Apparently, MB automatically chooses to display LRC lyrics everywhere (in Now Playing, Lyrics panel, Floating Lyrics Window and Theater Mode). I want MB to display TEXT lyrics instead. Is there any method to get this done?

No replies yet... Am I being stupid or ignorant? :-X Have I missed an obvious option? :-\ I tried searching the forum but found nothing helpful. It seems synchronized lyrics take over the priority whenever they are present. :o Isn't it kind of unfair? Shouldn't we have the right to choose between the two types instead of letting one take over the other?

Questions / How to display unsynchronized lyrics instead of synchronized?
« on: September 30, 2018, 03:25:49 PM »
I have both synchronized and unsynchronized lyrics embedded in my music files, and I have set the minilyrics plugin to display synchronized lyrics in it's native floating window. But MB also displays the synchronized lyrics by default. This is redundant. I can't find any option to change this behaviour. Is there any way to give priority to unsynchronized lyrics?

Questions / Re: Inbox confusion

When you send files to the library, unless auto-organise is ticked, then MB wont physically move the file.

Exactly.

the action just changes the internal categorisation to indicate the file should be displayed in the Music Library node.

Maybe. But then those files don't show up in the library, nor in the inbox. They get disappeared from MB. The physical files remain in the inbox folder in my case, as they should be. But they can't be imported into the inbox again, maybe because of that change in the internal categorisation you mentioned. I had to rename them to get them imported. So something changes in that categorisation for the files to be blacklisted from inbox, but not enough to get them shown up in the library.

But isn't the sole purpose of DISPLAY ARTIST tag to display all the contributing artists in a fancy way with "feat.", "&" and stuff and keep the TITLE tag clean and original? If we tag guest artists into the TITLE, we wouldn't need a DISPLAY ARTIST tag since that and the ARTIST tag would exactly have the same value. MB could just use the ARTIST tag for UI purposes.

The above has proven to be cross-compatible pretty much across the board.

I'm glad that your method works for you, but it does not for me. Seems our music tastes are different ;D. Anyway, wouldn't it be convenient if we had an option to choose which tag we'd like to use for scrobbling. My opinion is that the first ARTIST value is the ideal for scrobbling, since it's always the main artist.

The first thing I do after importing new files to the inbox is tagging them using "Auto-Tag by Album". I only use MusicBrainz as the source. I have disabled Genre from Auto-Tag fields because I'd like to retrieve Genre tags separately from Last.fm with Mood and Occasion tags using "Update Tags using Last.fm Tag Cloud" option. With "retrieve artist genres only" disabled in Preferences > Tags (2), this is the most accurate method to deal with Genre tags. Oh! and I have limited multiple genres to 3.

Scrobbling ALBUM ARTIST field wouldn't be compatible with compilation albums. I thought a better solution would be to scrobble the first ARTIST value. That way, the main artist will be getting the scrobbles. Wouldn't that be better than using the DISPLAY ARTIST?

It's so annoying when dealing with the tracks with multiple artists.

for example: Steven Wilson feat. Ninet Tayeb creates a new artist in my last.fm library and records the scrobbles under that name instead of Steven Wilson. So the scrobbles are divided between these two names, Steven Wilson doesn't get the love he deserves and my library becomes inconsistent.
This becomes unbearable with soundtrack albums where there are so many guest artists, different ones for each track. The album gets butchered!

If we could get an option to use the first ARTIST value for scrobbling, it would be very convenient. I could edit the DISPLAY ARTIST field to show only the main artist but I don't wanna lose information. I wonder if I'm the only one having this problem...

Beyond MusicBee / Re: Android Music Players (Discussion)
« on: July 20, 2018, 04:40:10 PM »
I've tried several android players. Black Player Ex and GMMP are the best ones I've come across. I'm currently using GMMP 2.x because it's rating system is fully compatible with MusicBee's. The dev is working on 3.x now and has already released several alpha versions. It supports multiple artists and genres now, which as far as I know, no other android player does. Once it gets all the other features the dev has planned (including the artist image downloader), no other player will be able to top GMMP.

Questions / Re: Wireless Sync to Android
« on: July 20, 2018, 04:43:16 AM »
This is basically what I've done, too. The only limitation is if you don't have room for your whole library on your device, then you have to create a separate directory to sync from.

Yesterday my library reached the point where my android could no longer afford to store it in it's entirety. So now I use selective sync in the android version. Changes done to the files on either end still gets synced. The only downside now is if I add a new file to the library, or renamed a file, I have to manually sync it to my mobile.

What is this separate directory thing though? Is it something to do with the virtual drives? Can you give me some guidance on this please?
