As per being adviced to do a wishlist post in my thread asking about extended selection info (and now finally getting around to actually doing it...  :D), here goes:

Not a pressing issue, but something that I feel would be a welcome feature to see added somewhere down the line - option for showing extended info on selections in the status bar.
Currently the amount of tracks selected is shown only when directly selecting tracks in an album (i.e. "[# of tracks], [total size], [duration]"), beyond that it changes to showing the number of albums selected instead. In some cases it would be handy to have the number of tracks in a given selection as well.

Thanks  8)

Does the up-to-date version allow this to be tweaked so it shows selections spanning multiple albums as both numbers of albums and tracks?
No - add this to the wishlist if its important to you
Alright, thanks! I'll put it on my to-do list to add this on the wishlist.  8)

My bad, I shouldn't have cropped the screeshots so tightly.
Main panel, using "Album Covers" view. Like in your screenshot, the Status Bar shows exact numbers of tracks only when opening an album and selecting tracks from it, otherwise it shows the extent of a selection as albums.

Does the up-to-date version allow this to be tweaked so it shows selections spanning multiple albums as both numbers of albums and tracks?

I've looked around the different settings and all I could find is just toggling the status bar info on/off and switching between HH:MM:SS and decimal display for the duration of the selection.

The format of the status bar info is consistent in its format: [extent], [file size total], [duration], but with that the exact number of files in a given selection is only shown when selecting tracks directly, otherwise it shows numbers of albums instead.

Occasionally, it would be helpful to also see the number of tracks in a selection (in addition to the number of albums) no matter what "level" a selection is made in. Is it not possible, or have I just missed some configuration option in the preferences?

Admittedly, I'm running a bit outdated version (3.2.6827) of MusicBee, so I guess this might very well be something that's already been introduced since?

Thanks!  :)

Alright, gotta have a try at  that. Thanks!

Pretty much what it says in the title. I tried googling but couldn't find anything about creating custom sorting tags for release year. Is that possible? (I'm using version 3.2.6827 atm)

I keep my main library view set to album covers and sorting as album artist/year/album. For the vast majority of cases, this sorts out everything just right - first alphabetically by artist, then albums chronologically for each artist - except when more than one release by an artist share the same release year. Naturally, these go in the correct chronological order only if that order also happens to be their alphabetical order. For example, CCR's three 1969 albums go in the right order by their names, as do Black Sabbath's first two albums, but Deep Purple's first two albums don't.

In the tag editor, I see there's "sort as" tag options only for album, album artist, artist, and composer tag. Would it be possible to do the kind of sorting I'm thinking of by making a custom tag for accurate release date just for those albums it concerns, then define a custom sorting rule for the library view as album artist/year/custom tag: year/album? I presume MusicBee would then apply that extra custom tag sorting step only when such a tag is present, and otherwise smoothly skip to the next step?

Thanks in advance.  :)

Questions / 3.2 uninstaller botched?
« on: October 06, 2018, 07:42:12 PM »
Hi,

I was doing a reinstall of MB and ran into a bit of an issue.

First, I backed up my library settings and uninstalled the old version (3.1.something), then installed the latest one (3.2.6827). After firing it up I realized I didn't remember to do the backup restore process before starting the program. I got to control panel -> uninstall a program -> uninstall Musicbee. That process didn't go as excepted, seeming to finish so quickly I wasn't sure it actually did anything.

Now Musicbee is gone from the program listing, but it's still on the computer, it runs from start menu and everything, except the "uninstall Musicbee" option there in the start menu folder doesn't actually find the uninstaller. And indeed, there's no uninstaller in the installation folder (or sub-directories) to be found.
Wonder if this is just me, or if there's an issue with the current version's uninstall behavior?

How should I go about uninstalling and reinstalling now? Can I just delete the installation folder and start menu entries and run the installer again?
I also see there's registry entries related to MB. As is tradition, I don't want to be messing around the registry light-heartedly - can I just leave those be and reinstall MB again without issues, or should I be wiping those entries before reinstalling?

Thanks!

P.s. I also installed CClear after a long while, just to see if it could help with the failed uninstall. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like it can, but hey, at least it discovered that I had almost 22GB of Internet Explorer "temporary" files lying around. And I thought I had those deleted when I stopped using it something like five years ago...

MusicBee Wishlist / Scroll artist and song title in taskbar icon
« on: September 05, 2018, 09:07:41 PM »
I have a feeling this might have been requested before, but I couldn't find anything with the search, so here goes:

Could you consider adding an option for having the taskbar icon info scroll around, à la Winamp?

Bug Reports / Can't ctrl + click to unselect album in "Album covers" view
« on: September 05, 2018, 11:52:21 AM »
"Album covers" view in main panel. "Show tracks for the selected albums" is ticked, with the track display style set to "directly under the selected album".
Clicking selects an album. Ctrl + clicking selects multiple albums. Ctrl + clicking unselects albums, but only until the last one. You don't seem to be able to unselect that single album in any other way than clicking on some selection in the left main panel.

However, if you have set the tracks of selected album(s) to be shown to the right or under the main panel, then ctrl + clicking does allow unselecting that last album.

I tried googling for a solution, but about the only one I found talked about using the "Reset search and browse filters" hotkey, but that does nothing when using the "Album covers" view.

Hi,

Not that big an issue, but here goes.

TL;DR:
Imported Winamp output plugin doesn't work, complains of supposedly not installed msvcr90.dll - what gives?
How can I remove output plugins added with the "import Winamp output plugin" option?

Just for the heck of it decided to give some Winamp's (5.666, build 3516) output plugins a go in Musicbee, since they're reportedly supported. So, as instructed, I fired up MB as administrator, went to options and chose "import Winamp output plugin", pointed it to the out_ds.dll file in Winamp's plugin folder. Entry named "Winamp" pops up in the output selection menu, but on selecting it and selecting "configure" it just gave a error message (Windows' own, judging from the appearance of the window) about msvcr90.dll supposedly not being installed, even though that appears to be present in both Musicbee's and Winamp's folders. After closing that error message, I got Musicbee's own error message window with the following error:

MusicBee v3.1.6590.32668 (Win6.1), 2 syys 2018 4:03:

#=z7bsY9wclCEei31a753Y1Npw=: Unable to initialise sound device
   at #=zMQk9rtxENNIcesAs4oiJU6w=.#=zp3Y60UYMX5onM8bbdg==(#=zMtJRBf3zzo2sOeyHEepvpcUUaXjK #=zqhjSlUw=, String #=zeFB7ZzcQI11mhxeimg==, #=zqfVqdK_rx3LQj1rVhw== #=z47ONr2G6HDByg4Jz_w==, Int32 #=z7sED720KhH02, String #=zpnJ0CeI=, IntPtr #=zCyqPVpU=)
   at #=zAZhlsR6$z$Y5HsVDWkrg1lG87IMG.#=z2k5HbRs=()
   at #=z0IN1sYiwdZhP3CjO4Rsn$zw=.#=zxKbQ$Q1peQxt()

What could be the issue there? I also tried copying that Winamp plugin file directly to Musibee's plugin folder, which caused a second entry titled "Winamp" to appear in the output options drop menu, but that doesn't work either, giving the same errors when trying to enable & configure.

Also, how can I now get rid of that unusable "Winamp" entry from the output menu? The copy-pasted plugin entry went away with ust removing that plugin file from Musicbee's plugin folder, but the first one added with the import plugin option just stays there. Cut-pasting that .dll away from the Winamp install folder (considering it was imported by pointing to that file located there) doesn't have any effect on this, either. Not that the presence of that extra plugin entry matters that much, but it's pointless to have hanging around there since it refuses to work.

Thanks!

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: "Bloated" Software Lie

Software bloat it's also about feature creep, not just performance.

Hi again,

Quick idea that popped in my head. Would it be possible to consider making the mousewheel scroll the pop-up album track listings when mouse cursor is over that field and the whole track list doesn't fit on screen? Referring to these.

I know it's not very often that albums have so high track counts that the need for scrolling comes up, but I think it would be nice to have wheel scrolling functionality, as the scrolling buttons are quite small to click on and wheel scrolling is just so much more convenient and faster than pressing and/or holding down a button.

Hi,

I've been going through all the relevant settings I feel are relevant, but can't quite figure this out: how can I set the double/single-click-to-play behavior to be the same for the pop-up track listing (accessed by click on album title under artwork) as on the listing at the bottom of main panel? Talking of these.

The settings under 'now playing' section concern double clicking behavior, but those don't affect the pop-up album track listings, since those work on single clicks.
I would prefer to have the "clear list and play all tracks" behavior for the pop-up lists as I have for the bottom-of-main-panel listings: that  clicking on a song clears the play queue, puts the album in question on the play queue and commences playback from the track which was clicked on. (cf. at the moment the only behavior for the pop-up track listings is: clear play queue -> put just the clicked song on list -> start playback)

Is there any way to have the pop-up lists behave like that, or do I for the time being have to manage with the lists at the bottom of main panel and its too-fast-for-my-liking mousewheel scrolling?

Thanks  8)

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Adjustable Mouse Wheel Scroll Speed
« on: April 21, 2018, 11:44:49 PM »
+1 as well. And actually, I'd love options for tweaking the wheel scrolling for all the main UI panels.  8)

It's already supported:

Slow Scroll

If you scroll the mouse wheel with alt key pressed, it slows down the scrolling speed so that you can fine tune the scrolling when you want to navigate to a specific row (supported from v3.1).
To be perfectly honest, that's quite far from a good solution. At least I haven't found myself using that at all. It's momentary in effect and awkard to use because it needs a second key to be held down while scrolling.
Additionally, its effect across different fields in the UI are inconsistent, but then again, so are the scrolling behaviors of the different UI fields in the first place:

- Left main panel list: single 'notch' of scrolling on the mouse wheel moves list by 9 lines - with alt pressed: 3
- Main panel (w/ album covers shown): 1 'notch' moves by exactly 1 line (top of 1st line always snaps to top of album covers - w/ alt pressed: non-snapping, smooth, but slooooooooooow scrolling (to all intents and purposes useless ). I'd love an option for faster, non-snapping scrolling!
- track list panel at bottom of main panel: 1 'notch' moves list by 6 lines - w/ alt pressed: 2
- playing tracks list: 1 'notch' moves list by 3 lines - w/ alt pressed: 1

I'd be very happy to see an option for proper customization of mouse wheel scrolling. MusicBee already has options for tweaking pretty much every other aspect of the UI, so why leave the scroll wheel out of it, with the scrolling speeds varying between different UI segments to boot?

Now I get the idea behind different lists having different scroll speeds based on their probable length and visibility on the screen (e.g. the left panel list works fine with its default scroll speed of 9 lines per 'notch'), but having the possibility of tweaking these would most welcome.

Like, for example, have on the Panels Configuration options screen:
- option for simply using the OS mouse wheel scroll setting across MB
- option for using one global mouse wheel scrolling speed across MB
- options for setting different scrolling speeds for each of the UI panels
(- perhaps options to tweak effect of alt-scrolling as well?)

Anyone?
