This is more or less a note to myself since this keeps coming up:

When MusicBee Wifi Sync can't find the server, try clearing the app's storage first (or reinstall).  Ignore the warning about having to sync by wired first and just continue.

You know what?  Nevermind!   I figured I should rule out some variables so I tried a different cable and USB port and now it works.

It has been months since I've synced, but it was working then.  I plug in my Android phone and change the USB option from charge-only to File Transfer and I try to sync and I get a fairly blank window popup titled "Aborted" that says "Synchronising files scanning device..." but at the bottom it says, "the data is invalid (Exception from HRESULT: 0X8007000D)"

I tried searching that term and found nothing helpful.

I don't really know where to start.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled (now latest) MusicBee and I've removed and re-added the device in preferences.  Clearly MusicBee sees the device, and I can certainly interact with the device from Windows (move, delete files, etc).

Any thoughts on what to do?

I don't know if this is important but the phone is a OnePlus 6 running Android 10.  I'm on Windows 10 (I keep it up to date).

MusicBee Wishlist / Randomize the first entry in a playlist
« on: November 27, 2020, 07:48:46 PM »
With questions/posts going back 8 years, this seems like such a simple thing with large capacity to annoy!

Random should mean random.  Not random only after the first song.

I *think* I've come up with a simple solution, but I don't know how you'd implement it without expecting the user to do it manually.

Could there be an option to automagically insert a 1 second "blank" mp3 file to the top of the playlist?  That's what I've done manually and it certainly works.  Now when I play the playlist, it still plays the first song everytime, but I don't care because it is only 1 second long.  Everything is randomized after that.

Meanwhile, I have no problem doing it manually myself.

I think you need to have GoneMAD Pro to do reverse sync.
I was using the trial.  Of course, a time limited trial should do everything the full version can, or describe what it can't.  I'm sure you can appreciate that I'm not eager to pay for an app that has already failed at the one thing I wanted it for.  Besides, PowerAmp has a far better interface and the only feature missing is half stars, which is fairly minor.

Feature request: Support Player pro.  I only found it because of recommendations on this forum.  They do this community the courtesy of specifically supporting MusicBee's rating system, so it would be logical and respectful to reciprocate.

I'd prefer Black player be supported, since that's a premium app I already paid for, but I don't expect MusicBee to support every player out there.  Player pro, however, seems the obvious choice.

Apparently, GoneMad isn't really an option :(

As I said above, I wasn't really happy with PowerAmp, so I gave GoneMad a try.  It is worse, IMO, but it has the advantage of supporting half-stars.  However, when I choose GoneMad in the MusicBee Wifi Sync and click Preview, I'm met with an immediate:

Quote
ERROR
A non-recoverable error occurred during the synchronization process.  Restart the app and try again.

Trying again, of course, doesn't help.  Nor does force stopping, rebooting, etc.

Portable Devices / Almost there? Sync ratings by wifi using Player Pro?
« on: October 11, 2020, 07:57:18 AM »
I'm trying to get song ratings from my phone to my MusicBee database on my PC.

Method 1 works:  I use PlayerPro and change the Ratings system to MusicBee.  Pros:  half stars works, and I can successfully achieve what I want BUT... Cons:  wired transfer only and I have to manually copy over gigabytes of music.

Method 2 works:  I use PowerAmp + MusicBee wifi sync app.  Pros:  WAY faster sync (I imagine it is sending only the rating and not the whole file?), and it works by WIFI (so much more convenient).  Cons:  I don't really like PowerAmp; half-stars don't work

What I'd like is to continue using PlayerPro, but with MusicBee wifi sync.  Is there some combination of settings that will allow this?  Since PlayerPro saves ratings in native MusicBee format, I'm surprised it doesn't "just work".  But it doesn't... I get "nothing to sync".

Thanks.

Portable Devices / Re: Device name blank
« on: December 01, 2016, 04:52:09 PM »
Thanks for the tip Rudy.  It gave me the hint I needed.

So what I did was disconnect my device and then delete the profile (Edit->Preferences->Devices->Portable Device->Delete)
Close MusicBee
Connect the device
Open Windows Explorer, find my device, right-click on it and Rename it (to whatever I want that wasn't the default)
Open MusicBee
Go back into Portable Device in preferences and it should now show up with the new name and with the correct path.

In my case, I have a Nextbit Robin phone and Windows called it "Robin" but Musicbee called it "Portable Device".  When I changed it to "Steve's Robin" Musicbee picked that up.

Portable Devices / Re: MusicBee not syncing with android phone
« on: December 01, 2016, 04:01:18 PM »
After a frustrating amount of trial and error, the sequence to make this passable is really quite simple.  The trick is to ignore the wording.  The option says "automatically synchronise [sic] when the device is connected"... to me, "when" meant "after".  But that fails, of course, because it doesn't give you time to click the USB pop-up on the device (and Android 6+ gives no way of defaulting the selection).  Instead, you have to have the device already connected and already OK'd the pop-up, THEN launch MusicBee on the computer.  Then it works fine.

I don't know about him, but I'm using a Nextbit Robin Android 6.0.1

the problem seems to be that the "Using USB to transfer files?" message comes up on the phone EVERY TIME (no way to default it to yes) and Musicbee isn't waiting for it.

That is... with auto sync upon connect.
