Questions / list on left (music, playlists, etc, under MUSIC tab) disappear
« on: December 21, 2016, 10:35:46 PM »
help, newbie, trying to figure out how to keep the normal left sided list.

had a MUSIC title at top, and in that left column, had MUSIC, PLAYLISTS, all the playlists, etd.
ALSO had the virtual devices at bottm
I was working with my phone, and upon restarting musicbee, the MUSIC title now has just ARTISTS in the left column.
I cannot seem to get back the list that was there
any help appreciated

thanks

QUESTION on EXACT DUPLICATE ENTRIES, how to find, and remove,
VERSUS duplicate songs that may exist as same name, BUT different file paths, different music albumns

example
playlist has

Track-01   from John Smith    c:\music\JohnSmith\Track01.mp3
entered twice

VERSUS
Track-01  from JOhn Smith      c:\music\JohnSmith\Track01.mp3
AND
Track-01  from  Joe Schmoe   c:\Music\JoeSchmoe\Track01.mp3

HOw to find the FIRST example, the exact matches, so I can remove them?

when I do the DUPLICATE finder, it finds all occurrences, of Track-01, and they may not be duplicates;  I know I have to go through these one by one

BUT, i want to clean up the stuff that fits the FIRST example, in some easy way, out of all my playlists

thanks

Questions / detect songs that are in multiple playlists?
« on: December 05, 2016, 02:02:35 PM »
is there any way to select a song, an MP3 file, and determine which playlists it resides in

I have some .WMA files, I am converting them to .MP3.
I know these files may exist in multiple playlists, and I want to make sure that I update those playlists to reflect the .MP3 files instead of the .WMA files.

but I can't figure out which playlists the  File-music.WMA may exist in, so I can then edit those playlists once I add the .MP3 files to MusicBee

thanks

Portable Devices / Re: ipod classic (ver 1.x software), do I NEED iTunes?
« on: December 05, 2016, 12:32:13 PM »
One other question on this

if I EDIT a music file in MusicBee (rename a genre, etc), and the MP3 file gets updated

How do I get iTunes to know this is an updated MP3 file (since itunes just has the posted names in it) so that the next time itunes sync's with my ipod, it copies that UPDATED MP3 file to the ipod?

thanks

Portable Devices / Re: ipod classic (ver 1.x software), do I NEED iTunes?
« on: December 04, 2016, 12:52:44 PM »
thanks for reply

unfortunately, can't update firmware.  My device is older than yours !  Mine doesn't have the name CLASSIC in it.  I checked the apple site;  my 80g device was made in about 2006, and it is an ipod 5th generation or so, and it has the latest available firmware . My wife's (have not tried hers yet) is one of the FIRST classic models, it is 160g.
and they dont have firmware for either of those.

SO, I will have to live with just using itunes to mirror MusicBee.
HOWEVER, it is not that bad.  I put the links to my music into Itunes (this mirrors what is in MusicBee)
I then edited each playlist to "EXPORT A STATIC PLAYLIST copy"
I set up folder in MusicBee Library to have "Playlist_BACKUP"  (musicbee is not clear in how is stores these static ones;  what I first had to do was EXPORT one, to this directory of choice, and all other exports are following this path)
I then can go into iTunes and IMPORT these playlists, and then just sync them to the iPod

The only issue is as I make modifications inside MusicBee, to any of the music (fix GENRE's, ARTISTS, etc), to have iTunes see that the music is changed, and sync this at some future time.

But MusicBee lets me have all my music on my Samsung Galaxy S7, and with a 128g MicroSD card in it, it is doing well.  AND, with a chromecast device, and wifi, i can take this almost anywhere.

SO, I can live with the iPod limitations;  MusicBee is letting me clean this music up, much better than iTunes let me do, and now I have it across multiple play devices.

I've only had musicbee for a couple weeks, and I know i've posted several questions (some of which still aren't clear, such as my "preserve paths thread"), but I've been on a fast learning curve, and this forum and its members (including you) have been great.

see this

musicbee sees the aoz80, and itunes sees it as an ipod, but musicbee is seeing it as drive "F:".  I DO have the option for the detect the MTP devices.
I'm ready to take a hammer to the ipod.
but i'm willing to try anything else that may help
thasnks

ALSO- in iTunes - ther is an option   "Manually manage music and video's".  I have this CHECKED.  If UNchecked, then itunes will try to dump stuff to the ipod.
how did you set your itunes option when you cleaned off the ipod?  (Addendum, having this checked or unchecked did nothing)

ADDENDUM
OK, got totally fed up, I added pointers to my current muslc library, and exported a playlist from MusicBee, and am importing it to iTunes, and sync'ing the ipod with this (will do othre lists later)
if this list works, then at least I can use musicbee to organize the music, and periodically fix the ipod.

OK, version 9.2.1 does not work, tried to RESTORE, and get a server issue with iPod update server.
I downloaded their 10.7 version, it DID allow the restore, and kept my firmware at 1.3

I can now see the device, (my iPod is device aoz80), BUT MusicBee is seeing it as the F: drive

As such, it does not allow me to select a path other than F:

QUESTION
how to get MusicBee to see this as an iPod and not drive F:?

QUESTION
SETTINGS
your thread states the PATHS to use, BUT do I select the option of
USE NAMING TEMPLATE,  or    PRESERVE FOLDERS and FILENAMES  ?

QUESTION
PLAYLIST -  what do I select for that, the PATH and FORMAT, and whether to create a subfolder or not?

any help appreciated.

since I have an older version of the ipod software on the ipod, do I  NEED to use iTunes to re-format it?
I haven't used i'tunes for many years, just kept same music on machine, and it's one less piece of software i'd need to install

Questions / Re: Synchronization fail, repeatedly, cannot see error message
« on: December 02, 2016, 02:49:58 PM »
the screen was frozen.  No hovering made any difference.  All I was trying to do was synchronize.

I DID go to the two affected music groups; their YEAR in the album was "0000", I changed it to 1970, in whole albums, and that worked.

BUT, PLAYLISTS are still not sync'ing;  I have 10 playlists;  I re-sync'ed;  and it has been sitting for FIVE MINUTES on the one playlist, with no progress, stuck at 87 %.
I can manually export the playlists, but this is discouraging, that the playlists themselves won't sync. (or at least won't sync for me)

ADDDENDUM -  I switched the playlist format from the default of PLA, to an "M3U" file.
Re-sync'ed, and IT WORKED !!!!

that is good, I will see how it all works on the phone

See attached
SAmsung galaxy S7, 60 g of music to sync.  I've been working on this for 5 hours plus.  PART of issue is USB connection, and MusicBee not seeing device.  That is a separate topic

CURRENT issue is Sync Failing.
I HAVE gotten 95+ % of music sync'ed.  But, here are 28 songs that WILL NOT sync, and theere is a message about Year, Month...., and I CNNOT read the rest of the error, AND in the sync failed window, it has frozen, and cannot highlight over individual failed song to see what the problem is.

AND, also, the SYNC (first image) has frozen at copying the Playlist, will not progress to copy the playlist over

Any help with this is appreciated

Questions / Re: subtract one playlist from larger playlist?
« on: November 30, 2016, 12:52:12 PM »
thanks very much for replies.
I'll look at the virtual tags, and also how it handles the audiobooks.

I'm a newbie, computer literate, but just new to this program, and don't mind exploring.  I have an Ipod, but am transitioning to my Samsung Galaxy S7, with a 128g memory card, and haven't cleaned up my music stuff for many years, and decided to work on all that and clean up the playlists.

thanks again

i can try working with genre's and tags

ONE QUESTION
when you edit the genre's, and tags, does this affect just MusicBee data, or the actual MP3 file?
reason i ask is that I have an amazon cloud account, and I sync local drive to that periodically;  I have noticed that in changing GENRE, that the MP3 file then gets re-uploaded to the cloud (issue being to monitor bandwidth and data used), if I do numerous songs.

Questions / Re: playlist of "recently played" is not populating
« on: November 26, 2016, 02:50:33 PM »
Steven,
thanks for reply, and I apologize for the extra screenshots;  I had them all in my "musicbee-issue" folder, but I had referenced the actual files.
I cleaned out the folder, the only two images are the first screen capture, showing that I was Playing the song;
and then the "recently played" folder, showing that nothing got added.

Again, I apologize, I don't know if I'm missing something, and I can live without the "recently played" list if  I can't get it fixed, but I do appreciat any help that might explain this or that might explain what I'm missing in this.

I've only been working with the program for the last week, and I find it very valuable, I want to replace iTunes, and just clean up all my music, I haven't worked on this for a while, and just got back into doing it

thanks
nick
