Questions / Musicbee Running Unknown Background Tasks on Startup
« on: October 15, 2021, 10:01:38 PM »
Anyone know how to see what background tasks Musicbee is running?

Everytime I start musicbee now, it's running some background task continuously.  If I try to close musicbee, I get the warning there are background tasks still running. There's the little button with a cross in the bottom left of the status bar which if I click stops the background tasks.

Trying to figure out what background tasks could be running on startup. I have no folders to be scanned on startup and cannot for the life of me figure why this has started happening.

Any help appreciated!

Does anyone know if it's possible to limit search results within locked tabs to just one "search results" tab?

I use search quite a lot and I'm sure I can't be the only one with loads of opened search results tabs I'm constantly having to close!

The depth of customisation with MB3 is quite remarkable. Fair play for a colossal effort.

Just have 3 comments:

1. I've been customising the icon layout and noticed two commands seem to be missing: hide left and right main panels. The ones there at present hide the left and right sidebars. I have the thumbnail browser setup in the left panel and as such, I have an icon setup to hide thumbnail browser which hides this left panel. But otherwise I can't seem to find a way to quickly hide either panel. One last command which would also be nice to have is to select between horizontal and vertical column browser.

2. Mentioned it before but dragging a track from an auto-hidden right sidebar still won't open an auto-hidden left sidebar. Either the left or right sidebar must be open in order for you to be able to drag and drop a track onto say a playlist in the left sidebar.

3. Whilst it's a great feature, is there any way to turn off the left sidebar opening automatically when dragging tracks (it does this even when option hide is selected)? I'd love to be able to disable this on some tabs because I do a lot of dragging to the column browser when tagging tracks and the first column always gets blocked by the left sidebar opening up.

Keep up the great work Steven!

Guys, how are you getting the artist image that fills the entire left hand panel?!

Can't figure it out!

Just wondering two small things:

1. With the thumbnail browser, is there any setting available to remove the number of albums displayed under every artist, genre etc? Basically like how you can remove the same for the column browser?

2. I was under the impression artists and albums artwork were now separate views in that you could now hide panel elements for each one. I had hidden column browser for artists but when I use Album artwork, the column browser is now also hidden.

Noticed dragging files from a 'Playing Tracks' list from an auto-hidden right sidebar doesn't open the left-sidebar. Left-sidebar will open however if right sidebar isn't auto-hidden.

Two small issues when using the Computer navigator in left hand panel:

1. If I pin a tab from a directory, the tab doesn't update if files change in that directory. It's basically like the tab becomes a playlist for that directory with a static list of songs. I have to bring up the left sidebar again and re-click on the directory for the tab to update with any new files.

2. The column browser doesn't seem to jump to whatever letter you type on the keyboard. It happens very occasionally but not really working for me. Don't have this issue when using any other nodes in the left hand panel.

In terms of the pinned tabs and sometimes navigating away from them, why not use a double click on the tab to bring you back to the original node of the tab?

[Edit] Actually, just realised this starts to play the contents of the tab. Hmm, tricky one. Maybe a triple click to revert to original node. Although not quite sure how you can reolve this 'problem' other than preventing navigating away from the pinned tab which possibly not everyone will like.

Using the new option Icon + Text for pinned tabs.
It gives a minimal width (as per Steven's description) but is the option title not going to lead to user confusion as it doesn't actually give an icon with text on the tab?
i guess your default tab setting is text only? For pinning it now always includes the icon. I might get rid of the text-only tab setting and always show an icon

With that latest patch, Pinned icon + text tabs working great now. Never noticed if you click on the tab it will open the left sidebar, that's a great addition to have.

Really enjoying the beta. Some great improvements.

Have a couple of suggestions for album and artwork view:

1. The left align text in the artwork view is a fantastic touch. Was thinking why not give the same option for Album & Tracks view when fields are displayed beneath artwork? Think it would give a great clean visual look.

2. Why not also give the option to display fields above the artwork instead of just below and to the right? As present, I use the header option with a virtual tag of Artist - Album so that its left-aligned but would be great to be able to display artist and album one above the other (in addition to any other fields you might want). Might be worth considering adding extra field options for sub-header as well.

Anyhow, just a few thoughts,

Keep up the great work

http://musicbee.niblseed.com/V3_0/MusicBee3_Patched.zip

unzip into the musicbee application folder and run MusicBee3.exe
- fixes and changes for the items stated as fixed above
- i have added back in support for dragging files into the column browser/ library explorer and thumb browser. On doing this action and after confirmation, the dropped files get re-tagged (one tag only, except for the library explorer which uses tag values from the entire tree node path)

You've no idea how much of a time saver that last addition is for me. Thanks for adding it back in.

Is there a reason pinned tabs default to the left of a locked tab? Have the global Music node as a locked tab (prefer visual text for this tab) and would have liked pinned tabs to the right of this. Also, don't seem to be able to drag tabs to re-arrange when there is a combination of locked and pinned.

I also wonder if it would be a good visual cue when clicking a pinned tab that the tab icon doesn't disappear when the text is displayed.

Don't seem to have drag and drop functionality for MP3 tagging like in 2.5

If you dragged an album or track to any contents of the column browser, Musicbee would give you the option of changing the MP3 tags to whatever you dragged it to. Found this feature incredibly useful so hope this hasn't been removed.
