Bug Reports / Re: Trouble loading DSP FabFilter
« on: December 19, 2023, 05:09:15 PM »
Oh man, I totally get where you're coming from with those plugin issues. I had a similar thing happen with a different audio tool on my computer. It was super frustrating! Every time I opened it, it felt like a game of chance whether it would recognize my plugins or not.

Yeah, this topic is almost 2 years old now and nothing has changed. After I boot into Windows (10) and start MB, FabFilter is never detected the first time. I have to close and re-open MB about 3 times before FabFilter gets recognized. Luckily I only have to reboot my system once in a few weeks so, although it's irritating, it's not a big deal.

Well, you've got a point there; English is not my first language and I always read "removable" device as "ejectable" device.
I know. It doesn't make sense but hey, it does to me  :P

Anyway: your suggestion is interesting but I don't think it's the case because a few minutes after Win boot, it never checks the drive anymore and I can always open MB without the problem.

To be sure: I just copied a "eicar" test virus to the drive and I'll wait how long it will take before Defender picks it up.
My best guess is it will never pick it up. We'll see.

Same here. It's weird but because I did four test runs each with the same result for now I think that must have been the culprit...
No USB stick here; just a normal external hard drive with all my music and MB on it.

BTW: before testing it this way I also tried your advice: removing all Winamp plugins but that had no effect.

Yes, I use MB portable 3.4.7805P on a different drive than my Windows drive.

Well I'll be damned, should have thought about this myself 8)
First: thank you for your help! Greatly appreciated!

I already had excluded the drive with MB (and the FabFilter .dll) from Windows Defender so initially I thought that could not be the problem. But here's the thing: the problem always occurred in the first minutes after booting my PC (that's also the time frame I always start MB).

So... this time I disabled Defender right after booting and after that I opened MB: no problem! Rebooted four times in a row using this method: all succesful!
My theory: the Defender exclusions only take effect several minutes after Windows has booted.
What's weird is that Defender doesn't see the .dll as a virus but for some reason it does interfere with MB loading it...

I don't have a real solution yet (e.g. some kind of Powershell script to delay Windows Defender at Windows boot).
For now I have to do this manually I guess... Oh, well...

Bug Reports / Trouble loading DSP FabFilter
« on: March 13, 2022, 08:59:15 AM »
Hi,

I use FabFilter Pro Q-3 as a DSP but MB has trouble loading it. I have to restart MB about 20-40 times before it finally loads FabFilter. After it has loaded, it works just fine, never crashes, it's just that MB has problems finding it initially (it's the only VST plugin I use and I do use multiple Winamp plugins and those all load fine).

Is there a workaround or trick I could use?

Thanks a lot!

I installed it and after restarting MB, Windows asked permission to use the Network so that part seems to work.

If you know of a simple way to test this (on this or another PC connected to my network) before I decide to buy the amplifier I'll be glad to hear about it.

Questions / Stream to receiver/amplifier over Ethernet?
« on: November 29, 2017, 12:42:16 PM »
I'm planning on buying a new receiver or amplifier and stream my music from Musicbee over Ethernet but I have no idea how to set things up. I can't find anything in Musicbee's output settings for this. I'm rather oldschool and until now I've always used an external DAC in combination with a "classic" amplifier (simple analog).

Can anyone explain how to do this? Thanks. (I'm using Musicbee 3.0.6057)

I'm afraid your last link is also broken Steven.

Thanks Redwing. Yeah, that's weird.
Anyway, the bug is not bugging me really because I rarely use MS Office but here's the info from the Windows crash dialog in case Steven is interested.

I'm not referring to the general DSP plugin's. It only happens when using a VST (not a built-in DSP).
There are no VST plugin's in MB unless you installed one.

And another thing: you have to open Word while MB is running (i.e. it does not crash when Word (Excel or Powerpoint) was already opened and only then you start MB). Only then, when Copying or Cutting, MB crashes.

So as you can see: there's all kinds of conditions for the bug to occur but I can still faithfully replicate it each and every time (then again: I have Office 2007 on Win7 x64 so I don't know what happens with Office 2010 and/or Win8/10).

13
Thanks Phred, but do you have a VST plugin enabled? (BTW: I'm using Office 2007)

14
Yeah, only MB.

I always have quite some apps open at the same time (Thunderbird, uTorrent, Total Commander, Firefox, SublimeText, Notezilla, SyncBack Pro, Volumouse, TeamViewer, Logitech software, StrokesPlus, Dropbox, Media Player Classic,  MS Security Ess. etc. etc.)

I know this must sound like a preposterous, ugly, weird bug again but hey, don't shoot the messenger ;-)

I use Word every once in a while and Excel a bit more often but never had any problems.

I'm pretty sure Steven is able to reproduce this if he enables a VST plugin. The bug doesn't bug me that much (because I don't use those MS products that often); I'm just reporting it because I'm pretty sure everyone with a VST plugin enabled and using MS Word or Excel will run into the same problem and because some bugs can be a symptom of a larger underlying problem.

NOTE: Just tried a simple cut in a text selection of PowerPoint and, as expected, same results so it's obviously a conflict between MS Office products (or a framework they make use of, like .NET (?) wild guess here) and the VST support in Musicbee...

15
Neither can I. The only thing I can guarantee I was working in Microsoft Word with MB running in the background each and every time the error occurred. I never experience crashes when expanding a node in the computer tree.

I know how to reproduce it now.
NOTE: it only happens with a VST plugin enabled! (doesn't matter which one, reminds me of a previous VST related bug months ago)

- Play a track (optional)
- Open Word or Excel or PowerPoint
- Select text in Word or Excel or PowerPoint
- Cut or Copy the selection (with keyboard or menu; doesn't matter)
- MB Crash!

Again and again. Repeatedly.

Because you're reporting the expanding node thing: could it be related to the bug you weren't willing to fix a little while ago? This one: http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=18160.msg109434#msg109434 (this is just a non-substantiated intuitive idea :-).
