Questions / Re: MusicBee for Linux (ubuntu)
« on: August 02, 2018, 10:20:38 AM »
Gonna necro this just because it still gets traffic. @Steven if you ever hit the point where you want to make MusicBee cross Platform then Xamarin Forms is going to be of interest to you. especially now that the C# runtime works pretty much on everything, and Xamarin is a very successful C# based cross-platform platform.

I don't doubt that this will still be a lot of work, but it's definitely the best bet for cross-platform. MusicBee on Android anyone haha?

Begging is a bit underhanded, he has already replied on the issue a while ago.

Here's the issue from a programmers perspective.
MusicBee is based heavily on .NET
.NET is Microsoft and windows.

That leaves 3 options for Linux:
1) use Mono (open source Linux C#) but its far from perfect. as in galaxies away.
2) use Wine, which is an option,
but sound quality becomes questionable, unless you use wineasio and jack.
then its all the wine hacks he will have to put in, and there will be many, and many odd ass bugs. which is not fun for a dev.
3) Rewrite it using QT, which is laughable. If it took him this long to get MusicBee this good on .NET, because it would be a full rewrite and in C++ not C# and the differences are vast.

there are so many more issues, thankfully though the BASS library does support linux.

FYI instructions don't work with current musicbee.

I keep getting either dotnet or gdi related errors.

Having official wine support at least would be awesum, especially since I have just switched over to linux, and for the life of me can't get musicbee working.

But I'm not going to expect anything, we know Steve Mayall is very busy, and this is quite a detour.

Although Steve should probably consider it, since with Steam OS coming and Valve making a big Linux push, more and more users will go that way, also the music players on linux blow, seriously, none of them are half a ball hair good at organising.

peace.

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Display volume level as percentage
« on: July 23, 2012, 03:08:16 PM »
Actually I think it will be best if its a popup box that appears when you hover over the slider area, and it changes and displays the volume as you change it, then it disappears when you more the cursor elsewhere.

MusicBee Wishlist / Display volume level as percentage
« on: July 23, 2012, 11:13:22 AM »
Hi

Is there a hack or setting (which I haven't found) in which I can enable in order to view the volume level as a number (preferably a percentage)?
The reason I ask is because at 76% on the dot the ASUS Xonar essence ST or STX is at maximum output, and thereafter it applies dynamic limiting, which can ruin big build ups in the music. And with the slider, although its well designed, I have no option to view at exactly what volume level the player is.

I don't think this is a major feature, and I don't think it should be enabled by default, but possibly just as a display option. I am not the only one in this situation over at Head-fi.org

P.S thanks for all the effort on this great player, I have converted over 20 people to use this :)

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: CD Burning

yeah will not let this feature be forgotten, but if anyone has got working methods of burning through the musicBee interface (most probably involving Send To) then they should also list it here as a temporary measure

Plugins / Re: Android remote
« on: June 05, 2011, 06:30:25 PM »
I dont have the time now, but if by  end October its still not done ill climb onboard.
Im busy doing 2 android based projects concurrently now, not little things either, and some heavy server involvement.

So ill keep tabs.
I would love this to be pulled off.

Also i would love it if i could stream music through musicbee on my PC onto my phone over wifi.
And view all my playlists and my entire library then just hit play.

But lets leave that for when i get involved late October for v2, i by then will also have a working JSON server with an android client.

But plz guys lets get this puppy rolling, i have big hopes for this

MusicBee Wishlist / Rainmeter Plugin
« on: March 21, 2011, 01:18:09 PM »
Firstly i love MusicBee :) best player out there

Rainmeter is a free opensource widget type thing, thats a million times better then any windows destop gadget.
It does everything from RSS feeds, application shorcuts, mini-media player, weather... etc.
and its skinnable.

And creating plugins for it is reletively simple.
(from what i can see.)

I would love it if Rainmeter had a musicBee plugin for its music player. (Im currently using the ABP skin)
