MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Multiple level sub-grouping

This would be a great feature! Besides being useful for some classical works, it would also be useful for some multi-disc albums or box sets.

Yes, that has fixed it! Thank you.

Hi there. First of all, thanks for this great software! I noticed one 'bug' or inconsistency. In the Thumbnail Browser, when displaying 'Artists: Artist' or 'Artists: Guest', for some files the actual tracks associated with an artist won't appear in the main panel. The Thumbnail Browser will show the album count for each artist, but when I select certain artists, no albums or files will show up in main panel.

This only happen for files containing multiple values for 'Artist' and/or 'Guest Artist'. If I display 'Artists: Performer' or 'Artist' in the Thumbnail Browser, all files will display properly. Combinations of one Artists with multiple Performers also don't result in problems. So only Artist and Guest Artist seem to be effected by this.

If I try the same thing, but with the Column Browser, then the files with multiple values for 'Artist' and/or 'Guest Artist' do show up properly in the main panel. So this behavior doesn't appear to be consistent.

Bug Reports / Re: Multiple Sort Album Artist not recognized properly
« on: March 11, 2017, 03:41:31 PM »
For some albums I am using multiple album artists as well. Mostly classical albums where there are multiple primary artists. It would be nice if MusicBee could recognize them as the other poster suggested.

Currently I have the Thumbnail browser set up to display Sort Album Artist and show the number of albums per artist. MusicBee counts the albums with multiple Sort Album Artists, but when I select the artist, it does not show the albums with multiple Sort Album Artists in the main panel.
For example the count in Thumbnail browser reads 2, but MusicBee only shows 1 album in the main panel.

It's nice to read that the formatted title will be made available in the expanded album panel!

Related to this, when I select <Title (Formatted)> in the Template editor I get the message FAIL @ "<Title (Formatted)>". I want to display this field in the Main player and Track information panel, but it doesn't let me because of this.

Thanks for these improvements, they make file syncing much easier and more intuitive.

+1 for the formula editing pop-up window

In your specific case, you might want to use the <display composer> tag. When editing the Composer field, you can assign both a <composer> and a <display composer> tag value, just like you can for the Artist field.

This is a good idea, so +1.

in the tag editor settings tab, there is "keep album tracks in sequence when shuffling". You might need to have all the album files selected for this setting to work correctly.
I think it should already do what is being suggested

As people have mentioned in this and other threads, we are dealing here with some special cases where multiple tracks were originally written as a single track or have been customarily played together in sequence as if they were a single track. The Beatles's "Golden Slumbers"/"Carry That Weight"/"The End" and Queen's "We Will Rock You"/"We Are the Champions" are the prime examples. In the normal playback mode, it won't matter in whatever order people want to listen to them as it's their choices. What matters is Auto-DJ and shuffle playback mode where those tracks are jumbled against the user's will. My suggestion is if "We Will Rock You" is on the list MB should play it along with "We Are the Champions" that is not on the list as if they are a single track. Don't say we have to listen the entire album just to hear the two linked tracks in sequence.

+1

It would be nice if MusicBee featured this ability. On some albums in my library certain tracks segue into the next, which results in these tracks starting or ending abruptly when playing them shuffled. Having an option to keep specific tracks in sequence would therefore enhance the shuffle functionality.

Thank you for the change, it looks much better for me now. I understand your point about it not looking good in all instances.

Questions / Issue with recent Mediafire download links
« on: July 07, 2014, 03:35:08 PM »
When I download the latest patched version of MusicBee, my browser (Google Chrome) indicates that the file is malicious. This is only for the recently posted Mediafire download links (as posted in the new layout, and expendable view threads). I take it the actual file is ok and that Chrome has Mediafire down as a dangerous site or something like that, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Is anyone else having this issue with Chrome, or another browser.

I like your idea with the scrollbar better and if done right i don't think it would disrupt the look at all. What's great about the scrollbar, besides faster scrolling, is that it gives the users a better sense of how far along the list they are (and if you have 30+ albums that becomes important).
The scrollbar should only be visible when the mouse is over the row of albums, and it should fade in with a slight delay so that it doesn't interrupt vertical scrolling.
The scrollbar should be simpler than regular ones. It would only need a slider, arrows already are in the top right corner. It should be narrow

It would indeed be nice to have a better sense of where you are in the album list. I hadn't even considered the very minimal scroll bar you propose, and that could work with the overall look and feel of the Expendable View. Thanks for the mock-ups!

whats wrong with Alumni's suggestion that the button increments a group of albums rather than a single album? Thats what i will probably change for this release. Also you can already hold the mouse down so it scrolls faster

Alumni's suggestion would adequately resolve the problem I described. It perhaps won't be as elegant and precise as the scroll bar suggestion, but that is just my opinion. However, I don't see any increase in scroll speed when holding the mouse down.

My suggestion is to replace the current arrow keys    with a small scroll bar, something like this

The problem with that though is that it will be quite inaccurate (highly sensitive) when there are lots of albums. Besides that, it would not be intuitive UI-wise; normally scroll bars are used underneath the section they apply to, not in the upper-right corner. Currently the only instance of MusicBee using one in the upper-right corner is to change the size of artwork, not to scroll through albums. This would therefore result in non-intuitive UI in my opinion.

Thanks for your thoughts on the issue though!

This new Expendable View looks really nice and handles very well for the most part. From a practical viewpoint I have one suggestion though. With albums grouped by (Album) Artist it is quite cumbersome to navigate to a specific album if there are a lot of albums grouped to an (Album) Artist.
When the number of albums exceed the screen width there is only the option to move forward (or backward) one album at a time. In my library there is for example one artist with about 80 albums to his name, so when I want to find a specific album of his, I have to wait a long time to get to it.

Therefore I would suggest an improved way of scrolling through albums. I can think of a few possible solutions:
- Enable a scroll bar underneath the row of albums for easier scrolling (although this arguably disrupts the very clean look of the Expendable View)
- Enable mouse wheel scrolling for an artist's row of albums. Currently the mouse wheel only scrolls the entire library up or down, but perhaps when the mouse is positioned on the row of albums, it could scroll that row horizontally.
- Make the forward/backward arrows scroll more than one album, perhaps by increasing scroll speed when the arrow is held down. Alternatively have two sets of arrows: one set for scrolling one album, and another for scrolling multiple albums (for example the number of albums that fit in the screen).

Any other thoughts on this?

MusicBee Wishlist / Consistent handling of non-square artwork
« on: June 26, 2014, 02:27:56 PM »
With some of the more recent additions to MusicBee I have noticed that the handling of non-square album art is no longer consistent.

In the Mini Player, Now Playing Assistant, Thumbnail Browser, and the Expendable Artwork View (with grouping by Artist enabled) non-square artwork is stretched to fit a square. In all other instances MusicBee does display the artwork in its original aspect ratio. The latter used to be the default way MusicBee handled non-square artwork and in my opinion it was the best way to display artwork.

Therefore I would like to ask if it is possible to retain images' original aspect ratio when they're displayed in all of the above mentioned instances.
