I absolutely love the Multiple Artist Splitter function of tag editing, and use it regularly.

If I may, here are some ideas to make it even better:

1) The characters "/" and "\" not currently recognized as artist separators and do not work when "Split" is clicked.

2) A button to "Reverse / Merge" the Artist List. This will make it easier to re-combine the "Display Artist". For example, if I have the artists "Aaliyah" and "Timbaland" I'd like to be able to click a "Set Display Artist" button to set the display artist to "Aaliyah, Timbaland".

3) A "Drag-n-Drop" handle on individual artists would make it easier to reorganise the position of artists that have been split. This will work well with the aforementioned "Merge" option when we edit tracks with multiple artists.

4) When clicking the "Split" button, it should remove any possible duplicate entries that may exist in the list. I know its rare for this to be required, but does sometimes crop up. This will eliminate the need for us to manually check for duplicates.

MusicBee Wishlist / Renaming Files & Filename Char Mapping
« on: August 10, 2018, 06:26:00 AM »
I'm not too sure if this post belong in the MusicBee Wishlist or the Developers sections, but either way, here goes:

A song is tagged with title "Killer / Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" and artist "George Michael".

When the file is renamed by MusicBee, I get this : "Killer ,  Papa Was a Rollin' Stone - George Michael.mp3". Notice the extraneous space that appears before the comma.

I think there should be some way to instead have the file be renamed to "02-07 - Killer,  Papa Was a Rollin' Stone - George Michael.mp3" by having any extraneous spaces and punctuation be removed...

MusicBee Wishlist / Re: Renaming Files from Tags

DOH! :-[

Forgive the newbie!

I've been using MusicBee for only about 4 days, after eventually deciding to abandon WMP after having used it for nearly 20 years since the time of Windows 95!

I do not know how user "Invictus" would like a batch renaming function to work, but here are my thoughts of how I would like such a function to operate:

1) It needs to be similar to the "Tools, Tagging Tools, Renumber Tracks" function.
2) The same "file renaming template" provided by the "Rename" command when editing tags must be available.
3) A warning, perhaps within the displayed "original filename / new filename" list, must be provided if duplicate filenames within the same folder are generated, or if filenames (including extension) longer than the maximum supported by the disk OS File System.
4)

That's about it, really.

As far as the renaming templates go, you can modify them as follows:
1) When "<Artist>" is used, and the track has more than one artist listed, the generated output currently does this "Artist 1,Artist 2,Artist 3". The output should rather be padded with spaces to become "Artist 1, Artist 2, Artist 3"
2) Perhaps add a new renaming field so that instead of using all artists like <Artist> currently does, only the first specified track artist is used.

And while not explicitly connected to this topic, I'd also like to see ALL available MusicBee commands and functions be hot-key assignable. For example, the "Tools, Tagging Tools, Renumber Tracks" command can currently not be assigned a hot-key, along with many other commands. And along with hotkeys, perhaps a customizable global toolbar that appears under the main window title bar.
