Questions / Error with some tracks: "The system cannot find the specified path ..." - SOLVED

I moved my MB-portable to a new drive some time ago. Also the paths to my music files have changed.

Therefore I have completely rebuilt my MB library. Everything works fine.

But from time to time I come across single tracks where I get the above mentioned error message when I try to save them.
This happens for example when I want to give a track a rating.

Strangely enough, this only happens with very few of my music files. I guess with 95% the error does NOT occur.

The path that is not found - according to the error message - is one from my previous computer where MB was originally running.

But all music tracks are in the MB library with new and correct path. I can also play them without problems. Only when saving I get this message from time to time.

Does anyone of you have an idea what this could be?

I am currently running the latest 3.6 beta version. The same error also occurred with the 3.5 version.

Questions / Is there a way to select AND color the playing track in the main panel?

In preferences on the "Now playing" tab there are two options for "highlight playing track in the main panel":

- select track
OR
- color text

I would like to set it to "select track" AND to color the text.

Is there a way this can be done? Maybe via a change in one of the *.ini or *xml files?

Tips and Tricks / Using Now Playing popup with Parallels on macOS

After switching to MacOS I was really sad about not being able to use the rating and media controls in the taskbar when using MB with Parallels.

But today I found out that the Now Playing popup is a good alternative.

Just set the display duration to several minutes and enable the rating and media controls.

Now the popup appears with all the important functions on my Mac desktop. This is extremely handy and makes it much easier to use on macOS.

Questions / Is it possible to put a "Play"-Button before each song (like in Spotify)?

I wonder if it is somehow possible to display such a button before each song.

Right now it's a bit annoying to either use a double click or select the song and then click the play button at the bottom to start a song.

Maybe it can be done already, but unfortunately I don't know how.

Questions / Is it possible to show the number of tracks for an artist in the explorer?

In the library explorer (when sorted by artist) one can see the number of different albums for the respective artist.

I would like to see the number of tracks by this artist instead (or additionally) and wonder if this is possible somehow.

Sometimes it's more useful (for me) to know how many tracks for a specific artist are in the library than to see the number of albums only.

For example: "John Lennon (2)" can mean there are 100 or only 2 different tracks for the former Beatle in the library.

Maybe it ist possible to show the number of tracks for an artist too?

Portable Devices / How to make MB-ratings visible on iPhone/iPad?

When loading or streaming my (with MB rated) music files (MP3) via UPNP to my iPhone or iPad (iOS15) the ratings which I have done with MB are not visible in any of the music streaming / playing apps I have tried so far.

Other MP3 tags work fine but the ratings are not visible. The files are displayed as having not rating at all.

Is this a general iOS-problem or can I can I solve this problem by changing some settings in MusicBee?

Questions / How to create a new category like "Audiobooks"?

Hi I have a lot of guitar backing tracks in my library which I don't want to be mixed up with my standard song tracks.
It would be great if I could put them in an own category (like it is possible with "Audiobooks") so that they don't mix with the normal song tracks accidentally (e.g in auto playlists etc.).

Is it possible to create a new (sub)category which does not interfere with my standard song tracks without creating a second library?

Questions / MB 3.3.7454 P: Lyrics not found and not detected if existent in file (Solved)

I have noticed that lyrics often are not found although available for a specific track.

Only after a "redo search" they do appear in the lyrics box.


Then I found that the lyrics are also sometimes not detected by MB so that a track WITH lyrics is listed as having NO lyrics.

Maybe something is wrong in my MB settings oder I do something wrong.
But maybe it's a bug that can be eliminated.

Portable Devices / Is there a step by step tutorial how to use the MB-Library on iPhone or iPad?

A few days ago I found (to my surprise) MB as a kind of server or device on my iPhone SE when I was testing some MP3-player apps.

Since then I try to figure out, how to get this to work so that I can play the tracks from my MB library via the iPhone or my iPad.

Unfortunately terms like "upnp" or "udp" or "multicast" don't mean anything to me.
I read about an iPhone plugin for MB but the link to it was broken.

I tried to use the detected MB-library anyway but it seems that something is wrong with my settings. Sometimes I can see only a few of my music tracks and sometimes I get a message that says "folder empty" or something similar.

I use the latest (beta) of MB 3.2. My iPhone SE and my iPad Pro 2017 are in the same WLAN as my Windows 10 computer on which MB and the MB library are located.

Is there any tutorial or manual with which dummies like me can learn to connect iOS devices with the MB library?

Bug Reports / MB 3.2.6793: Rating via taskbar-player is sometimes not possible

On my Win10 machine rating a song via the taskbar-miniplayer is sometimes not possible.

Although clicking 3 or 4 times on the +* button only the first click works correctly which results in half star rating for the song.

This is not always the case so it is difficult to reproduce this bug intentional.

On my machine I guess it happens about 5 times when rating 20 songs.

This is an old bug which happend ever since as far as I remember.

Bug Reports / Search in library explorer: First found entry is hidden by the search field

I found a little problem when searching for album Artists in the library explorer.

The first found entry always is displayed behind the search field instead below it.


I have taken two screenshots to show what happens.

In this example I was searching for Albums by Mike Oldfield:

As you can see the first entry "Mike Oldfield" is hidden by the search field. Instead of "Mike Oldfield" the next following entry "Mike Oldfield - DJKJ" is displayed.


It's no big deal but it would be nice if it could be fixed in the future.

Questions / Virtual tape machine as plugin or visualization?

For playing single audio files I use a player called AIMP.

This player is skinnable so that it looks like a big tape machine which wheels are spinning slowly when music is played.

I like that very much and wonder if something similar is doable with MusicBee.

Does anyone know a plugin or something like that, that could be used with MB to achieve a similar effect?

Questions / MB 3.2 (latest version) starts but GUI is not visible.

Since yesterday my MB (Portable) installation shows  a strange behvavior.

Everytime I start MB nothing (visible) happens. A look into the task manager shows that MB is running, but obviously the program window does not open.

This happens on Win 10 with the latest MB 3.2 version with the latest update from the 5th of april. The very same version has run perfectly after the update. So I don't think it has something to do with the lates update.

I have already restarted my machine and I have "killed" the MB tasks in the TM several times manually. Unfortunately without a positive effect.

Any idea what to reset or which file to delete, to make MB running again?

Questions / Is it possible to sort by date AND keep the correct track order for each album?

I often click on header of the "Date Added" column to see which songs I have added recently.

This works fine but the songs of each album are mixed up in the time order when they arrived in the library.

Is there a way to sort by Date Added and keep the track order for each added album?

Something like "Last added albums" oder "Date album added"?

Questions / Is it possible to open web links in standard web browser?

Currently when clicking on a web link MB opens it own browser window.

Is it possible to change that so that the clicked link is opened in the standard web browser?

I already checked the internet settings in prereferences but could not find a check box or so to achieve this.
