How can i DELETE Tracks: not just 'Remove'?

it must be me, bur Removing really frustrates me - i want to get rid of the track, not have it pop-up again, resurrected. :-)

Super simple so why can't i find it anywhere?

how can i play tracks in alpha order (or some other order eg Year)?

and in a related issue .. how do i turn Random OFF?

... i must have set it before because it is saving to an outdated Folder; but i'll be blowed if i can find that setting now, despite spending a silly amount of time looking

Questions / FORUM QUERY: Best place to save Album/Track Cover Art>
« on: May 14, 2023, 06:23:18 AM »
... apart or as well as 'embedded', i have heaps of album art saved in same folder as the music tracks

as a very organised person, is it better to have a separate dedicated Folder for all Album Art?

or does that create any difficulties with apps eg Music Bee finding (or adding) Album Art?

thanks for your advice and comments

Questions / Best Naming Convetion for music files/tracks
« on: May 14, 2023, 06:21:19 AM »
my file name format is 'track artist - track name [album name] [additional info] [track/album year]

i have laboriously changes Title field name to just 'Track Name [optional track info eg Live]

ie i stripped the initial Artist Name out, and generally the SAlbum Name

but now i am now re-considering., and wondering whether i should add Track Artist Name BACK at start of Track Title

what does the Forum think/use?

NOTE: all my music is in a single integrated track-based Folder

Questions / Forum Search Question
« on: May 09, 2023, 04:36:41 AM »

given that, as far as i have been told, there is no option to simply select 'My Posts/Replies', i thought i would search for my user name ie 'decard' - that should i thought come up with all the items i have posted or replied to

.... but it DOESN'T

it came up just now (again) with just a single item. one.

what's the story? trick? prob?

Questions / Duplicates
« on: May 08, 2023, 10:49:26 AM »
This is a way to view and/or process duplicate tracks in the regular 'Tracks' view.

While MusicBee has a build-in duplicates manager with many features, sometimes you may just want to see (and edit or process) your duplicate songs in the more familiar Tracks view.

There are two different options described here.
A version for when you are using MusicBrainz' Picard tagging tool, and a regular one that doesn't require any external sources or tools.

The advantage of the Picard version is that it will be more reliable in defining actual duplicates.
The reason behind this is that it uses MusicBrainz recording IDs, which are unique codes for each and every version of a song.
How either the artist or the title is written for a track is completely irrelevant. Only the MusicBrainz ID code counts.

The regular version only checks if the Artist and the Title are identical.
So it ignores other factors such as duration, album version vs. single version, studio vs. live recording, etc.
(unless such details are mentioned in the title)

Picard version  (preferred)

1.  create this virtual tag:

$If($Count(<MusicBrainz Recording¨>)>1,$IsNull(<MusicBrainz Recording¨>,,$Count(<MusicBrainz Recording¨>)),)
This virtual tag is compatible with the tag that you will already have available if you are using this system.
(which makes it possible to have all MusicBrainz IDs contained in one single virtual tag)
If the tag you are using for 'MusicBrainz Recording Id' is named differently, just adjust the virtual tag accordingly.

2.  set a library filter (or an auto-playlist): the tag 'Duplicates' 'has a value'
3.  set the main panel to 'Tracks', and set grouping to: (your) 'MusicBrainz Recording ID' tag.

that's it

The result should look something like this:

Note that all these tracks are indeed actual duplicates. Regardless if the artist or title is written differently or the duration is somewhat off.
Isn't that great? (hmm, that's probably rhetorical)

Regular version

1. Create these two virtual tags:

2.  set a library filter (or an auto-playlist): the tag 'Duplicates' 'has a value'
3.  set the main panel to 'Tracks', and set grouping to the 'Artist-Title' tag.
(and select the 'Title' column for sorting)

that's it

sounds great, but i have no ideas (much) what you are talking about. :-(

i see no way to create such a "virtual tag" in MB. do you mean to create it in MP3Tag or similar?

and i don't really know what a "virtual tag" is anyway

and finally, on a related issue, i see all these tools that MB has already integrated to add tags, tro list files with missing tags, etc etc etc. are these tools just meant to work out of the box? do you have to have MB in some special admin mode? because NONE of these tools work for me if i just click on them. which is extremely frustrating.

Questions / Saving images ....
« on: May 08, 2023, 10:10:00 AM »
MB has about 1,000 bells and whistles; but i do not suppose it can automatically save images for cover art?
PS i assume that is where the images are coming from? not natively from MB?

Questions / Track Artwork
« on: May 07, 2023, 11:44:49 AM »

to put it simply, i have quite a lot of cover artwork in the same folder as ALL my music tracks, as opposed to albums, most have unique albumart*.jpg names, that do not identify the artist/track/album in the file name, others have artist or album specific names.

[obviously names such as cover.jpg are useless in this structure (and frankly that is a really really stupid naming convention: simple sure, but really really stupid)]

the simple question, if not simple answer/s is what is the fastest easiest way to associate the artwork to individual tracks? specifically, some app?

obviously none i have used so far have done this for me; but quite possibly i did not use the appropriate app option to do this

Questions / Stupid Question: where is MB installed?
« on: May 07, 2023, 05:27:05 AM »
i checked both c:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (86), AND then  scanned the whole C:\ AND the whole D:\, but i can only find settings files under Users\.. and the actuall installation exes

if it was on my Desktop, i could check Folder location, but the Win10 Start Menu does not give you that option i see.

and another thing i just noticed  is that Musicbee is NOT listed in the list of installed apps

what's the story?

PS MB is working fine as we speak. :-)
