MusicBee Wishlist / Close the assistant after selecting a song
« on: March 12, 2021, 11:45:24 AM »
Hi!

I'm currently using the Now Playing Assistant as my main way to select tracks to play, and my main usage of it is not to replace the current song by another, but instead to select the next song to play.

So in my case I select the song, press Ctrl+Enter, and then Escape to close the popup.

Would it be possible to add a setting to make the assistant close when a song is added as the next track, or even better a setting to make the Enter key select the song as the next one and then close the assistant? This would be very convenient for what I use the assistant for - not sure if many other people do.

Thanks in advance! :)

P.S.: I've opened a lot of feature requests in the wishlist forum, as I just discovered this sub-forum so I put all my ideas there. I can centralize them all in one post if it's simplier for you, though I thought it would be clear to have one thread per feature request.

Hi!

I'm currently using the Now Playing Assistant as my main way to select tracks to play, and one thing I feel like is missing in the views (especially the "tracks" one where is the most space for that) is the rating.

Would it possible to add a setting that would show the rating of each track in the assistant?

Thanks in advance for your answers! :)

MusicBee Wishlist / [Solved] Search field in the shortcuts panel
« on: March 12, 2021, 11:27:52 AM »
Hi!

A feature I feel like is missing from the shortcuts panel (Edit Preferences > Shortcuts) is a little field to search for a specific shortcut, as there are many of them, and in some languages like french the shortcut titles are very long so it's a bit tiring to read the entire title of each shortcut one by one in order to find the good one.

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi!

I'm using the lyrics popup very often to check the lyrics of a song, but I find the default font size too little to be readable on my screen. The "+" button on the bottom right allows to set a more readable font size, but it needs to be clicked on every time the popup is opened again, as this is not a setting that is remembered.

I wondered if it would be possible to make the selected font size memorized by this popup? Or alternatively maybe a setting with the default font size of this popup?

Thanks in advance for your answers :)

Hi!

I'm using the Now Playing Assistant as the main way to switch between tracks, and because I navigate almost exclusively with the keyboard I find it more simple to use the "tracks" view of the Assistant:

What I'd love to see is a little or medium thumbnail on the left side of each title, as I have (like many users) a very large library and a simple query will often lots of results.

I don't know if this would be simple or hard to implement, so tell me if this feature request is too complex :)

Thanks in advance!

MusicBee Wishlist / Search only by title in the Now Playing Assistant
« on: March 12, 2021, 11:21:24 AM »
Hi!

I use the Now Playing Assistant very often (in fact it's the main thing I use to switch between tracks), and I only search songs by title. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a feature to search only by title, if I search a song title it will also match the album's name.

Example:

By searching only by title, only the first two results should be shown, not the last one.

I guess that's a simple feature to implement as well (correct me if I'm wrong), this could be maybe a simple checkbox in the Now Playing Assistant or a setting.

Thanks in advance :)

Bug Reports / Sound glitch when jumping + pausing with fade out
« on: March 12, 2021, 11:14:18 AM »
Hi!

I've came across a little bug, which is when you jump in the music (go to +5 seconds or -5 seconds for example), and pause immediatly after, the sound does this weird thing where it kind of 'stutters' (idk how to really explain it).

I guess this is related to the fade-out feature when the sound is paused, so anyone should be able to reproduce it. Bind the +5/-5 second to a keyboard shortcut, same for pause, and press the first shortcut then, immediatly after, the other.

It's a very small bug which does not prevent from using MusicBee at all, but it's a bit annoying and given how it works I suppose it would be trivial to fix (correct me if I'm wrong).

Tell me if I need to add any other information about this bug.

Thanks in advance :)

General Discussions / Why isn't this project open source?
« on: November 06, 2020, 08:46:03 PM »
Hi there!

First of all, thanks for this amazing project! I've been using this music player non-stop for months now, coming from many others I've tried in the past (Windows Media Player, foobar2000, Dopamine, AIMP, ...) and I love it. The way you can customize pretty much everything is really nice and the player stays fast even with my >10k FLAC tracks library, which is really cool!

Now, as good as MusicBee is, there is still room for improvement. For instance, improving lyrics fetching, revamping the themes engine to allow for more "modern" themes maybe, or adding web capabilities such as streaming for distant services. Many features are listed in the forum as there are plenty of ideas of things to implement in this player.

As a developer, I wanted to dig a bit into the code to check if I could improve the lyrics engine (which often doesn't find the lyrics of the songs I have in my library), but I discovered MusicBee is unfortunately closed-source.

So I wonder why it isn't open source? I've found two links in the FAQ but they point to dead topics ("The topic or board you are looking for appears to be either missing or off limits to you.") so I can't see what was told about it.

I guess you have your reasons, and I'm curious to hear them. Making MusicBee open-source would allow many people to contribute by themselves.

It would be a great thing IMO, as it would add room for improvements for many users that want to offer their help on this project. Using a platform like Github or Gitlab with branches managed by the project's maintainer which would decide what can be merged with the main branch or not would avoid anyone doing anything they want and ensure the project stays on rails with what the project's maintainers wants it to be.

There are also PRs (or MRs depending on the platform) to allow external user to suggest changes in the code, and the maintainer can accept or reject them - I'm sure you're familiar with this.

So, I'd like to know why MusicBee isn't (yet) open-source and if you're planning to make it open source in the future?

Thanks in advance for your answer, and thanks again for your AMAZING work on this project! 🙏
