Assume I have setup in the past a (large) mp3 playlist.

Now I move one of the *.mp3 files which is linked in this playlist to another folder.
Everything else remains (filename, rating).

Now I want to add this song to the playlist AND REPLACE EXISTING PREVIOUS song entry.

When I simply drag the file from new folder to playlist MusicBee pops up a reminder "Duplicate track detected - Do you want to add the track"
I miss an button "replace". Is there another way to add AND REPLACE duplicate existing?

Having to add the new song and search the old one among 500 tracks is annoying and user unfriendly.and unnecessary
Furthermore the manual setup position in playlist order is lost as well as the original "Date Added"

Maybe this button can be introduced in next release?

I have a playlist. and removed all currently assigned MP3 songs from it.

It is empty now.

Now I drag & drop approx 50 MP3 files form FileExplorer onto this empty playlist.
Yes, all songs are added and can be played by double click on them, BUT the column "Date Added" is empty.

I would have expected that at least the current timestamp is filled it.

Or (a bit smarter): the date when these MP3 files were added the first time (=In previously playlist) should be retrieved from Library.

How can I tell MB to fill column "Date added"?

By the way: In all other playlists the column is normally filled.

I setup up to 10 playlists until now including a rather complicated auto-playlist.

is there a way to export these (at least one by one9 playlist definitions into a text file?

In which file are these Playlist definitions (not the song titles which they contain) stored?

I have multiple playlists.

Now when I enter a search pattern in the search entry field at the top it works.

But when I click on another Playlist (read: when I switch to another playlist) then the current search pattern is (SOMETIMES) not kept but another old, search word from the past is shown.

How can I force MB to use the most recent search pattern in ALL playlists?

Questions / How to RE-scan library for non-existing files?
« on: April 03, 2023, 08:19:42 AM »
When I started recently MB a popup appeared:

"The follwoing files no longer exists at their expected location - remove them from the library?"

I clicked "NO" button to check the problem at a later time.

Now I have time to check the situation.
But when I launch MB again the popup does not appear again.
It seems to me that MB show conflicts only 1 time.

How can I tell MB to re-check the library for non-existing files?

Currently MusicBee allows only enabling context menus AND file associations or both NOT.

I would like to disable context menus but allow file associations.
So when I double click *.mp3 file it should be played in MB.

Can this feature split be added in options dialog in next version.

Thank you

Questions / Assign Sort method per Playlist and not global?
« on: December 13, 2020, 07:45:52 AM »
Ok, user scan select the sort method for a Playlist by right click on the Playlist column header and select the method.
Unfortunately this seems to be a global setting for ALL Playlists

I need a way to assign different sort method to different Playlists.
Having to switch it always manually when I switch Playlist is on the long-term tedious and unnecessary.

So is there a way to assign the sort method to a Playlist (different from the default)?

Questions / Deny addiing duplicate tracks always without prompt?
« on: December 06, 2020, 01:39:49 PM »
For some week I collect new songs (*.mp3) on various devices like smartphone, notebook and desktop computer.
Then I merge/copy them into one certain music folder which contains meanwhile some hundred files.
Now I want to add the new files to an existing playlist in MB.

In order not to have remember the filename of all new files or to copy them step by step I want to
mark ALL files from that folder and drag & drop them onto the playlist.
Existing song files should be ignored and only new files added.

Now at this point always a prompt appears "Duplicate tracks detected - do you want to add the tracks to this playlist"
I click NO.
Unfortunately in the lower left corner of the dialog only one of two necessary checkboxes appear:
 "always allow without asking"

I miss "always deny without asking". Alternatively the meaning of the checkbox could be changed to "always remember next button click without asking"
to cover both variants in one checkbox.

Or is there possibly a preference for this?

9
I show the checkmark column (for private purposes).

Unfortunately when I add a new song (by drag & drop) the checkmark in the song line is always automatically set/enabled.
Can I somehow tell MB leave this column empty by default?

Questions / How to disable MusicBee entries in WinExplorer context menu?
« on: December 01, 2020, 05:01:51 AM »
When I right-click on a folder in Windows Explorer then there appear 3 entries:

Play with MusicBee
Queue Next in MusicBee
Queue Last in MusicBee

How can I disable these context menus?

In MusicBee I enabled in Preferences--->Tags (1) the checkbox "store ratings in the music file" and
"save Mp3 tags as ID3v2.3"

Now I changed the rating for a certain song test.mp3 from 2 to 3 stars

Afterwards I exit MusicBee, then launched the well know tool Mp3tag v2.04 and opened the just change *.mp3 file
Much to my surprise the Mp3tag column "Rating WMP" is empty.

So the rating is NOT stored by MusicBee. I think its only stored in Music Library

Whats wrong?

Maybe the two header fields "Rating POPM" from MusicBee and "Rating WMP" from Mp3tag are different?

If yes: How can I store the Rating in the more general, more often used "Rating WMP" header field (in addition)?

Whenever I double click on a *.mp3 file in Windows Explorer another player is started but not MusicBee.

Currently I always have to mark the *.mp3 file right click, select "Open With", "Choose default program" and then MusicBee to get MusicBee as the player.

Even if I tick "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" it does not help.

The next time I have to go through the same procedure again.

So is there a way from inside MusicBee to adjust the file associations and use MusicBee as default player?

Maybe there is an option "check for MusicBee as default player"?

Questions / How are songs identified in Music Library?
« on: November 16, 2020, 01:14:37 PM »
How are songs identified in Music Library?

Is it

1.) by (exact) file name?

That would mean I could replace a song by another file (with better quality) as long as both have the same file name

Does capitalization (upper/lower case) matter?

or

2.) by (exact) hash value/binary content of a file

That would mean I could rename the file name without loss of entry in Music library

Questions / "Date Added" column empty even after "Send to-->File rescan"?
« on: November 12, 2020, 04:27:46 PM »
I drag a new *.mp3 file from Windows Explorer onto an existing Playlist.

The Playlist column "Date Added" remains empty even if I click on context menu

Sent To--->File Rescan

As far as I understand the context menu is the exact manual equivalent to the automatic auto-scan (at startup) from Preferences.
So a date added should be filled after manual file rescan.

When the *.mp3 file is located inside a monitored folder then "Date added" is filled.

In other words: How can I force MusicBee the fill (column) "Date Added" when the *.mp3 file is OUTSIDE a monitored folder?

Even more:

I understand that MusicBee should/can not permanently monitor and rescan all possible folders of my whole partiton
But when I drag a file onto MusicBee the trigger comes from outside and it refers to only ONE *.mp3 file.
So useless rescanning is not necessary. Instead MusicBee knows what happened and a single file rescan could take place without loss of performance. AND without a manual user File Rescan action

Questions / Print or snapshot Playlist into PDF or *.png file?
« on: November 11, 2020, 11:58:21 AM »
Is there a way to print the current playlist into a *.pdf file or snapshot into *.png file?

This function must have an auto-scoll feature to capture all songs even on long playlists.

Furthermore only the columns which are currently active in Playlist table should be captured/printed.

How can I achieve this?
