Bug Reports / Playlist folders in exported iTunes XML file contain no tracks
« on: October 13, 2020, 04:13:38 PM »
I'm a fairly new MusicBee user but it's so much better than iTunes! I'm using iTunes only to keep a couple of iPods in sync. I export the entire MusicBee library and import that into iTunes as a playlist.
The iTunes formatted XML file that MusicBee creates does not contain any tracks for playlist folders. I use a lot of playlist folders, nested at least 3 levels, for my own sanity. The XML file that iTunes creates handles this by duplicating all tracks from child playlists into the parent playlist, but MusicBee does not, so the parent playlists are empty when imported back into iTunes. Specifically, iTunes uses the following key in parent playlist folders:
<key>Playlist Items</key>
The result is that iTunes still sees the playlist hierarchy (because of the Parent Persistent ID keys in the children), but when written to the iPod the hierarchy is lost, resulting in a single long list of all playlists. One could argue that this is an Apple bug, but could be circumvented by MusicBee adding the children tracks to the exported iTunes XML file.
Perhaps this is more of a new function request than a bug, but it does hinder my enjoyment of the larger musical experience.
Thanks for considering making this change.
