Bug Reports / Excessive CPU Usage
« on: October 03, 2020, 07:08:37 PM »
Historically (at least 8 years) I haven't had an issue with Musicbee and CPU usage. I have a 9900k and Musicbee, even without music playing, is using tons of resources. Often peaking at 90% which is 100%ing my CPU since I always have other stuff running.
I cannot play games at all with musicbee running anymore. I first noticed this issue 3 weeks ago, I updated Musicbee to "3.3.7491 P" in hopes that would help.

Just as I'm writing this, Musicbee dropped to only 20% usage without music playing. It's also using 1.3GB of ram, which I don't care about too much, but not ideal. I just resumed the music, and after like 30 seconds the usage dropped to 11% while playing FLAC. I don't know what Musicbee is doing in the background and I'm pretty sure it'll start doing it again.

Tips and Tricks / Wirelessly Sync Music to Android Device
« on: March 19, 2019, 10:11:08 PM »
This tutorial uses the Android App SMBSync2

Directions:
If you know how or already have your files shared on the network, SKIP TO STEP 7

1. To start, you must share your music over the local network
    Open Windows Settings,
    Network & Internet,
On the left panel click either Wifi or Ethernet based on how you are connected to your router,
Click the name of the network you are connected to,
make sure Network Profile is set to Private not Public

2. Most likely you will need to enable SMB, follow THIS GUIDE (click here)

3. Open Advanced Sharing Settings (you can just type 'sharing' into the windows start menu to find this quickly)
Under the Private section [should say "(current profile)" next to Private now]
Turn on 'Network Discovery' and 'File and Printer Sharing'

4. Under All Networks section
Turn on 'Public Folder Sharing' and I prefer to turn off 'Password Protected Sharing' since I trust everyone with access to my network and it makes sharing much easier

5. Next you're going to start sharing your folders over the network
In Windows File Explorer, right click the music folder you wish to share and click 'Properties'
Navigate to the Sharing tab and click 'Advanced Sharing'

6. Mark the checkbox next to 'Share this folder'
Set the 'Share Name:' to whatever you want
Click Permissions at the bottom left
Make sure 'Everyone' is set to allow Read but NOT allow "Change" or "Full Control"
Next you can add your username and grant yourself Full Control permissions when you remotely connect

(sorry the gif is a little fast, gyazo limited the size so I had to rush haha)

Now onto your Android Device

edit: I made a Pastebin here of my task backup which can be imported into your SMBSync2 if you want to attempt to save a little time. Just save as a .txt file anywhere on your phone, click the 3 dots at the top right of SMBSync2 to open the menu, click 'Import task list' and select the .txt file. This is not going to just work right out of the box so you'll have to follow the guide anyway.

7. Open SMBSync2 on your Android Device
Add a new Task at the bottom left
    set 'Sync Type' to 'Mirror'
click the field below 'Master Folder'
set 'Folder Type' to 'SMB Server'

7A. click 'Search SMB Server'
if you know your local ip, you can just type it here to make the search quicker, if not just leave .1-.254 click Search at the bottom right
I set my router to use 192.168.53.XXX but for most of you it will be 192.168.0.XXX or 192.168.1.XXX

7B. Select your PC, I recommend clicking the Domain name instead of the IP address since most router assign local IP addresses randomly and the IP will change based on the routers setting for when IPs expire. I manually set a static IP for a few of my devices

7C. If you set your username on the Windows Folder share to have Full Control Read/Write Permissions this is where you type your PC login info

7D. Click 'List Share' to select the Folder/Drive from your PC

7E. I have an entire drive being shared as 'I-Music' but you can just select the folder you shared

7F. If you want to only sync subfolders of the root folder you shared from your PC, this is where you select the folder. As stated before, I am sharing my entire drive so I select the music folder here

7G. The folder I am syncing
Skip 7F and 7G if you are syncing the entire directory you selected in the 'SMB Share'

If you encounter any issues connecting to your PC, try switching the SMB Protocol between SMBv1, SMBv2.01 and SMBv2.11

8. Click the field below 'Target Folder'
Navigate to where you want the music to be saved on your Android device
Most of you will probably save to your SD card, I have the 512GB Note 9 so I am saving to my internal storage

9. Here are my settings:

I have this setup to make a perfect copy of my music folder. Anything that changes on my PC is updated on my phone.
If I change something on my phone and rerun the sync, it'll just be overwritten and the change will be undone since it wasn't changed on my PC. You can check 'Do not overwrite destination file if newer than source file if you do not want the same
I recommend using temp files (as unchecked at the very bottom) because partial files are annoying and I constantly stop the sync in the middle of a transfer. This also helps with really large syncs that might fail in the middle.

10. You can modify some of the settings as you see fit and even setup an automatic sync to go every night or something and tell the task not to run if your phone isn't charging. I highly recommend setting 'Wifi Status' to 'Access Point List' and selecting your wifi name so the sync will not attempt to run when you are not connected to your home wifi where your PC is...

I just sync manually when I get new music or modify any of my existing music

Tasks can also be made to backup other files like your pictures from your phone to your PC or whatever else you can imagine wirelessly transferring can be done similarly.

Let me know if I missed any steps or need to explain anything better in the post.
Feel free to ask any questions you have, I'll try my best to help

Tips and Tricks / Search for Cover with Album Art Downloader
« on: March 19, 2019, 09:15:43 AM »
https://sourceforge.net/projects/album-art/

I thoroughly love this cover search software.

Search Preview:
https://i.gyazo.com/b77c1882d4b8e40edd887a8948f90296.png

I setup:
A toolbar button in Musicbee that, based on the selected track, searches the artist and album in Album Art Downloader

Directions:

1. Open MusicBee Preferences and select the "Tools" tab

2. add the application path (mine is C:\Program Files\AlbumArtDownloader\AlbumArt.exe) {just click the button on the right side with three dots then navigate to the exe file}

3. Make sure you set the parameters to: "<Artist>"  "<Album>"

4. click Save

---- You can stop at this point and just right click the file and use the "Send To" feature ----

If you wish to add the toolbar button as I did:

5. Right click your toolbar then "Configure Toolbar"

6. Click the plus sign to add a new button command

7. click the three dots and Set the command to the "Send To: External Application (selected file) [your #]"

Mine was #3 because Audition and MediaInfo were apps 1 and 2...

Questions / Bit Depth Column
« on: January 19, 2018, 12:56:28 AM »
Is there any way to setup a column that displays the tracks bit depth (8/16/24/32/etc bit)?
I have some flacs that are 16bit/96kHz, 24bit/44.1kHz, you name it. I can display the sample rate as a column already.

Bug Reports / Managing Duplicates
« on: March 22, 2017, 04:01:57 PM »
I keep getting this error when trying to scan for duplicates. The feature worked when I was on v2.5 but I recently upgraded.
I am also not sure if this matters but I installed THIS plugin. I don't remember trying to scan for duplicates before I installed the plugin.

Questions / Multiple Library Organization/Separation
« on: March 20, 2017, 01:42:11 AM »
I have multiple libraries:
-Organized FLAC
-Unorganized FLAC
-MP3
-(My friends collection I haven't formed an opinion on yet)

I like my music tags to be perfect and the folder structure a particular way. I add all new files to Unorganized Flac library and then use the "Send To" / "Folder (Move)" / "Move Files to Organized Folder"  command once I have an album configured to my preferences.

I am having the issue with the albums that have already been moved are staying in the Unorganized FLAC library even though they are now in folder that is only 'monitored' by the Organized Flac library.

I have tried "scan on startup only" and "continuously monitor"
"on startup check for updated or missing files" is checked

To clarify: I am looking for an option to have files no longer located in the monitored folder be automatically removed from the library, instantly or on next startup.

Technically I can "Delete" / "Delete from Library only"  to achieve my end goal but I am looking for this to happen automatically and without the risk of my deleting the files if not paying close attention.

I don't know if this is an issue but... I am still on v2.5.5804.
I made my own skin for Musicbee a while back and it didn't look quite right for Musicbee v3.x and I haven't updated it yet.

MusicBee Wishlist / Folder Deletion
« on: April 30, 2013, 07:13:42 PM »
I am looking for a feature that deletes the folder that the song files were contained in when deleting an Album or Artist.
I am sorted as usual:  Artist/Album/(tracks)
I go through music fairly quickly because I hear about an album and if I really don't like it, I delete it. My music folder has quite a few empty folders in it now of artists and/or albums I didn't think were worth keeping around.
A lot of times the folder is not completely empty. There is usually a cover.jpg or a folder.jpg left behind, I would like these to be deleted along with the folder.

Unless I have over looked it many times over, I would really like this added.

I am thinking maybe another optional dialog asking if said folder should be deleted or done automatically
If not, then maybe under Tools, "Purge of empty folders" or something.

Skins / Dark and Brown Guerila 1.3
« on: December 19, 2012, 05:19:15 PM »
Download My Skins
GitHub (1.2)
Mediafire (1.3)
MusicBee Skin Wiki

I have been using this skin for quite some time with no problems (the way I use it)

The goal:
1. I saw a few bugs with other skins so I fixed them for my needs
2. Be really easy on your eyes ( I do NOT like bright obnoxious colors or white unless they are used sparingly)
3. I like the color brown (what can I say, I'm atypical)

If you find any bugs or have any recommendations to the skin or this post please tell me

SCREENSHOTS! (click to enlarge)

Pending changes:
No found problems, YAY!

Fixed:
-main player "flat" layout has color issues
-album ratings invisible when unrated
+Brown custom buttons
-Strange Purple line when Flat Player is at bottom (disappeared when preparing to fix before fix applied?!)

MusicBee Wishlist / A-Z Jumpbars!
« on: December 19, 2012, 04:34:37 PM »
Alright. I would like to see the addition of (optional) A-Z jumbars added to several places.

1. Add* vertical and/or horizontal A-Z Jumpbars to the "Track Browser" Columns. (not saying vertical and horizontal at the same time)

2. Add* vertical A-Z Jumpbar to the main browser
(maybe as a column like "artist", "album", "ratings", etc.) (or just a settings toggle next to the current jumpbar toggle)

3. Option* move the current A-Z Jumpbar to the "toolbar" (might have the term wrong, talking about the bar where custom buttons appear)

screenshot just for the hell of it:

MusicBee Wishlist / Auto Genre
« on: October 23, 2012, 08:06:03 AM »
I may just be having trouble finding the option..
If it's not there, continue reading:

I would live an option the allows Musicbee to auto add genre tags when he are missing.
I love that you can add multiple genres and if you "auto tag by album"  multiple genres are usually found but it gets very time consuming when doing your whole collection.
I think there should be both options:
1. Fill missing genre (for people who only want one)
2. Fill (specified amount) genres for albums with less than (specified amount) genres.  (so that if you want 5 but you live with 2 )

MusicBee Wishlist / Copy that...
« on: October 18, 2012, 01:45:57 AM »
I know this has been talked about before but I think some confusion would be cleared up if a preference was just moved around.

should be added to this section, right below "auto-organize.."

The option in the "Organization" section feels like a one time copy effect.
It does copy all files added instead of moving them but is very confusing.

MusicBee Wishlist / Several Suggestions...
« on: September 18, 2012, 10:35:48 AM »
When adding files, there is no "copy" option.
Also "monitored" folders don't have the option to copy new files to library.
(This one is the only thing that really bothers me, the rest are tollerable)

album art loses save option when
autosave playing artwork  is on
http://i.imgur.com/uKqt6.png

No user friendly way to change the font color.?
(so that you can choose a skin and then a more prefered font color for the main browser)

In "artwork and track" view, there is no way to put multiple credentials on same line
http://i.imgur.com/aMZBQ.png
(plus you can see how hard it is to see the album rating)

No album duration/length
http://i.imgur.com/yhjUe.png

all albums look like they have 5-star rating, actual album rating is hard to see
(unrated album, Auto album rating turned on, no tracks have ratings)
http://i.imgur.com/s998y.png

When opening a playlist, and return to Music Library, you lose your position.
