MusicBee Wishlist / Auto-Tag by Track from the Album Covers view
« on: January 03, 2024, 12:14:06 PM »
My library is usually in Album Covers view. If I want to update tags (e.g. from filename) or lyrics of tracks, I cannot do this from the Album Covers view unless I click on an album and select the tracks manually. This also prevents me from updating the tags for several albums at once. The current workaround I have to be able to batch update tags or lyrics is to change the view to Tracks view, make the changes, then switch back to Album Covers view.

I believe it would make sense to have the Auto-Tag by Track option available in the Album Covers view. It would simply apply the tag/lyric update to all tracks in all albums selected.

Here are 2 screenshots showing the Auto-Tag options, in case anything is unclear let me know.

I know the Track information panel's Artist and Album rows can be clicked to show the album or the artist in the main panel. I've been wishing for a way  to do the same with other tags displayed in the Track information panel, for example the Genre(s) or any other tag the user has put there. Ideally one could even click genres individually, if more than one is displayed.

I know the Track information panel's Artist and Album rows can be clicked to show the album or the artist in the main panel. I've been wondering if it was possible to do the same with other tags displayed in the Track information panel, for example the Genre(s). It doesn't look to be possible with the way I've set up the Track information, but perhaps I missed an option somewhere?

Bug Reports / Auto-DJ stuck in a loop of playing the same albums
« on: October 20, 2023, 08:19:59 AM »
I noticed that the queue created by Auto-DJ was alternating between 2 albums, repeating the same few songs and albums over and over. I could fix this by changing the "gap before the same artist can play", but I like having different albums of the same artist play. I think here it's more about excluding albums already in the queue from being added to the queue again.

Questions / [SOLVED] MusicBee only displays one genre in "Playing Tracks"
« on: February 03, 2022, 04:41:02 PM »
MusicBee only displays one genre in "Playing Tracks", even if I set it to display the tag "Genres", which to my understanding should contain all of them (see picture). Am I missing something?

I saw this thread that is somewhat related: https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=30762.0

Should I create a virtual tag to concatenate the genres?

Bug Reports / Scrolling freezes MusicBee if it takes too long
« on: April 07, 2021, 10:04:37 AM »
Scrolling forward or backward in a song takes an unusually long time (up to 1mn), freezing MusicBee's interface in the process. I tested this on MP3 and FLAC files. The reason for it is most likely that my files are on a remote server that I am accessing through a fairly slow WiFi. This does not happen when the files are stored locally. Still, I do not think the whole interface should be frozen, since it causes Windows to prompt the user to close the process.

Questions / Bulk replace a list of tags
« on: June 20, 2020, 01:01:22 AM »
I have a list of tags in the format:
tagBefore1;tagAfter1
tagBefore2;tagAfter2
...

The format itself is not important and can be changed easily.

I'd like to know what kind of tool would be able to import this kind of list and do all the replacing for me automatically, across the Artists and Album Artist tags.

I learned about Masstagger on this post, however the tool is pretty limited, as its scripts can't (afaik) be edited easily outside of its interface. Additional Tagging Tools seemed promising, but is also too limited for my purpose, since it can't import a list of tags to replace.

What the title says, I noticed it takes a few seconds to switch from full screen to windowed, 5-10 seconds to open the album cover view, a few seconds to select any album there. Menus are sluggish, with CPU usage spiking to 25% (100% on one core) at each change of view. It makes no difference whether the screen is set to high DPI (175%) or 100%.

Icons also don't scale well at high DPI and are not centered. Overall it feels like there's a lot of work remaining to be done to support high res screens :/.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. If you need any testing I'll gladly help.

100% DPI:

175% DPI:

I also wish the "Now Playing Assistant" allowed right-click > Play now on the left pane, not just the right pane. eg to play an entire artist or genre's tracks.

Bug Reports / Shuffle by album doesn't work properly
« on: June 10, 2020, 05:19:40 PM »
Shuffle by album has a weird behaviour, whereby the first album is correctly chosen randomly from the library, but the following albums are simply the ones next in alphabetical order.

Weirdly, this only happens on one computer I setup MusicBee on (v7367, updated to v7466 with no changes). The other works properly (v7424).

Some results in the "Files with Inconsistent Album Tags" dialog don't make sense. See highlighted item in the screenshot below. The "Album Artist" tag of all tracks listed is identical, I double-checked. No hidden characters or weird space character either, I even tried replacing the tag for all tracks to make sure.

MusicBee Wishlist / Multi-select in Search & Replace window
« on: March 11, 2020, 01:31:54 AM »
It'd be really nice to be able to select and deselect multiple items at once in the Search & Replace window. As is it's too tedious to use in a case as illustrated below.

Bug Reports / Empty folder keeps popping up after "Send to" action
« on: March 11, 2020, 12:17:52 AM »
MusicBee 3.3.7310, library is on a NAS, accessed through NFS.

Here's what I did:
1. I had an album with the following folder structure:
Album/CD1/
Album/CD2/
2. I used "Send to" > "Move files to organised folder" to move all the tracks into "Album/" along with any remaining non-media files.
3. I notice that the CD1 folder disappeared, however the CD2 folder is still present (and empty). If I remove it, it reappears as soon as MusicBee is focused.
I assume something, somewhere is still pointing to the folder and that's why it keeps reappearing. This happens with all albums I restructured.

Bug Reports / Can't input some AltGr key combinations in MusicBee
« on: August 21, 2019, 10:01:41 PM »
I tried to input a hashtag (#) in MusicBee's tag utility and nothing appeared. Copy-pasting the key from elsewhere works.

I'm using a French keyboard layout, where a hashtag is obtained by pressing AltGr + 3. The same happens with other keys like [ (AltGr + 5) but not | (AltGr + 6). Not quite sure what's going on, perhaps a localization problem ? If you need any more info do ask.

I wanted to move several tracks to another folder according to the <Disc#> tag. Here's the path : "Y:\Soundtracks\Yamato\Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 Pt.<Disc#>". And here's the error :

Code

Of course, then I noticed I could simply put the tag in the "naming template" field. It would just be better if there wasn't an exception that popped up like that.
