Questions / internal resampler used
« on: May 26, 2022, 07:47:46 PM »
Does anybody know what kind of resampler MB uses internally when the "resample to:" in Preferences/Player is enabled?  The reason I'm asking is because when I use ASIO as the output my RME BF interface switches the Sample Rate used in Windows to whatever it was last used by ASIO even after I stop or close MB.  I prefer the default sample rate in Windows to be 96kHz and I don't want to have to manually change it every time I use MP.  So this can be avoided if I force the output in MB to be resampled to 96K.  The alternative would be to set WASAPI as the output and use Windows's resampler, which although doubtful to be better, has been improved in recent Windows updates according to reports.
Edit: I guess a third option would be to use WASAPI exclusive mode, which I prefer not to use.

I've encountered a strange behavior.  Up until about a month ago I was using a NAS with a shared folder for my music files, and everything worked fine.  Recently I moved my music folder to a computer that has Win 10, and I've made the folder with the music files shared.  I can access the folder and files from File Explorer just fine.  Yet when I add the network shared folder to MusicBee to be scanned on startup and the recognized files to be added to the library for some reason the files are not added on startup.  The interesting thing is that if I manually go to Files/Scan Folders for New Files and point to the same folder MusicBee adds all my music files just fine, but then if I restart the program the files are removed again since the same folder is supposed to be checked on startup with "on startup check for updated or missing files".  For some reason the startup monitor is not seeing the files, but the manual Scan is.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I really have no problem manually adding the files/folders by using Files/Scan Folders for New Files, except I want to have the "on startup check for updated or missing files" functionality.

Thank you

Edit: I'm using the latest 3.3.7367 version.

Bug Reports / Cue sheet, multiple files, one track album
« on: January 29, 2018, 11:06:39 PM »
I recently noticed that one of my albums kept showing the wrong artist/album no matter what I changed in the tag info.  The issue turned to be that MusicBee was reading the .cue file, and pulling the album info from there.  Now I've always kept my .cue and .log files in the same folder as my .flac files, but up until now I've never noticed an issue.  My albums are organized in separate folders with one file per track.  The problem turned out to be that this particular album has only one track in it.  So I figured on library scan MusicBee must be checking for single vs multiple files per album inside the .cue sheet, and prioritize .cue sheet album info for single file albums.  My solution was to move the .cue files of each album to its separate folder, and all is well, but I wonder if there is an easy (and maybe more elegant) way to tell MusicBee whether to prioritize .cue sheet info or file tag info regardless of whether the album .cue has a single vs multiple files.

Bug Reports / ogg padding *SOLVED*
« on: June 07, 2017, 06:42:15 AM »
It seems that the padding parameter for oggenc was removed some time ago.  I am using oggenc2.88-aoTuVb6.03_2015-LancerSSE3_x64.zip provided on rarewares and it seems to give an error when trying to encode.  There is an older thread that helped me identify the issue https://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=14020.0.  Removing the "-p 4" and making it into "-q 6 - -o [outputfile]" fixed it for me.  It is a small thing, but maybe it could be considered bug and have the default settings changed in a new version.

Edit: It seems that the issue was addressed at some point, I'm using 3.0 update 5 and it seems to be working fine.

I noticed that when sending files to a portable device, if they are configured to be converted on-the-fly, not all CPU threads are used that are specified in Preferences/File Converters.  More specifically the player waits for a file to be copied over before another thread is utilized.  I understand that this might be the intended behavior, because if the transfer speed to the device is slower than the conversion rate there could be a lot of files queued to be copied and they could take a lot of space.  If this is the reason behind this limitation I wonder if it's possible have the option to assign a temporary location for those converted files to be copied over, so that all CPU threads can be utilized.

Questions / Help, file name too long [SOLVED]
« on: June 04, 2016, 09:33:29 PM »
I tried to convert some files with the File Converter and received an error for a filename being too long.
"Failed - The specified path, file name or both are too long.  The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters and the directory name must be less than 248 characters."

I did a search and seems that there are numerous threads on the topic and it was mentioned that the problem was addressed at one point.  I do remember running into a problem a while back while ripping a CD where it ripped fine but then when I tried to move the folder to a deeper folder structure I got an error.  Is it possible that the new algorithm for shortening file names made it to CD Ripping and not for File Conversion?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit:  More specifically is there a way to specify the file length MusicBee uses.  As long as my tags are named correctly I suppose I can just use "01 Track.ogg" and it wouldn't make any difference, but still it would be nice if possible to to have say "<Track#> <Tittle (50)>.ogg" or have the ability to set a file length limit somewhere in the settings.

Edit #2: Maybe this wouldn't be needed in a few months, http://betanews.com/2016/05/29/long-paths-windows-10/ as it seems that windows 10 should get longer path support soon.  Still any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

MusicBee Wishlist / Small UI tweaks, hopefully simple to do
« on: June 03, 2016, 11:51:29 PM »
Hi, I just spent a few hours playing around with the new interface and the panel configuration and I'm absolutely amazed by the constant enthusiasm Steven has for trying to improve our favorite music player.  If there is any software I have ever used that I could love with passion, this would be it.  I really like the way the interface can be customized in almost infinite ways both functionally and visually in order to allow people to create their own favorite player.  This is absolutely the opposite of what Apple with iTunes have been trying to push everybody to do, it defines what they stand for as a company and it is disgusting.  I like simplicity and ease of use, but this is only possible after everybody has a chance to configure things the way they see them.

Since the interface has had a big addition of new features, I thought maybe I could add some ideas that I have wished to see for a while, and they haven't made it to an update yet.

1. It would be very useful if it was possible to have a view where the album information is shown to the left of the album art, similar to the way the thumbnail browser is currently, with only one album per line.
2. The option to merge fields allows one field to wrap to only one more line of text.  If there were check marks next to the 4 fields, this would allow to have one line to wrap to more that have a check mark but are left empty.  In addition if a field is short and does not take the whole line, it might be useful to allow the following field to start where the first one ends on the same line, with the merge fields enabled.
3. If #2 is done, then there is no real need for this one, but still, I wish I could choose [Year] Album.

4. The A-Z jumpbar is a great addition and I think it could be improved by having it being dynamically updated based on what is chosen in the browser, so that the years being shown are only taken from the currently shown genres/artists/albums.

MusicBee Wishlist / Rating editing
« on: October 24, 2015, 06:10:23 PM »
In the settings, when I disable "enable direct editing of tags in the main panel" I'm still able to change ratings of files directly in the library, without having to go to edit mode for the tag.  If possible please consider making editing of Ratings impossible when the above setting is disabled, unless in edit tag mode.  Or if this was intentional I think it would be a nice feature to be able to to disable it.

MusicBee Wishlist / Player only/normal mode [Resolved]
« on: June 01, 2014, 03:42:08 PM »
There is a topic I posted a while ago http://getmusicbee.com/forum/index.php?topic=11401.msg69582#msg69582 that I think didn't get enough notice, so I'll try to make the case that it is an addition that is very much worth looking into.  In MediaMonkey there is a feature called Party Mode or something similar, that basically makes the player into just that, a player, disabling any and all other functionality so that the only thing that is possible to do inside the program is to play files.  This most importantly disables the capability to edit the library (except the library file/directory scan),  and to edit files and playlists inside the library.  In addition MediaMonkey allows a password to be used to "unlock" the player for full functionality.  I would really like to see a similar functionality into our loved player, adding a "safety" factor that I think would increase the ease of use for many of us tremendously.

MusicBee Wishlist / library sorting of numbers
« on: May 30, 2014, 03:13:53 AM »
I have noticed that the library sorting of album titles goes only by the first digit.  If I have albums with numbers in them, the library will sort them as follows

Album 1
Album 10
Album 11
Album 2
Album 3 etc...

making it necessary to insert 0's to correctly sort the titles.  The Now Playing panel seems to work OK having track numbers without the 0's.  It would be helpful if the library explorer could be forced to read the whole number, rather than just the first digit of a number for correct sorting.

MusicBee Wishlist / Option to disable playlist editing
« on: December 09, 2013, 12:21:46 AM »
There have been times when I have noticed that I had accidentally deleted or moved different tracks inside a playlist.  I wish there is an option to disable playlist editing in the main panel, that would include deleting a playlist, add/remove songs within a playlist and re-arranging.  Another idea would be to have an option to turn on a confirmation pop up box for any changes made to playlists.  Some of my playlists I change all the time, but others I would like to not change.  I really like the option "enable direct editing of tags in the main panel", I wish there is something equivalent for playlists, because it is just so easy to click and drag, rather than double click for example.
